Given that Al Geiberger was known as "Mr 59" you would have to say it was Al wouldnt you.

Without looking at Google, my recollection is that Mike Souchak didn't shoot a 59, but he held the record for lowest four round total (and may still hold it) with a score somewhere about 255. I think he shot a 60, so he was the holder before Geiberger.

Mr Souchek lost his lowest 4 round score to Calcavecia (spellin ?) in 2002, his record stood for 46 years.... but I was having a bet with Astroboy and Scotty_G that it was Al Geiberger... The only thing was that Souchek made his score in 1956 and that's why Scotty thought that he may have done it then....

The specific arguement was who shot 59 first.... I hope I'm right..... god forbid a woman be right about a sporting question !!!

Al Geiberger, Chip Beck and David Duval are the only players to shoot 59 on the PGA Tour, and Annika Sorenstam shot a 59 on the LPGA Tour.

Mickelson did it in the Grand Slam Cup, or whatever the thing is called where the previous year's slam winners play. Sensational round, but not an official event.
