View Full Version : 3 Wood, Hybrid Dilemma

I have a first world problem, Got a 19 degree XR hybrid with an ADDI Hybrid 85x shaft that feels really good. It goes as far as my normal 3 wood (210-220), but not as far as a smoked 3 wood (230-240+). This leaves me with a decision on whether I should fill the gap between the hybrid and 4 iron or find a club for that 230 shot.

I have my other hybrid (TM RBZ Stage 2) that I can set to higher and it will be 23 degrees, which should fill that gap between the hybrid and 4 iron.

I am not sure if I really need a 230 shot, in fact I might score better if I avoid this shot.

Anyone else go with no fairway wood, or got a hybrid that goes as long as their fairways?

No 3 wood here. Am better off hitting fairways / greens 8 out of 10 times at 210 than getting an extra 10 metres but hitting them 4 times out of 10. Have 17° and 19° hybrids, and have a 16° that I'll get bent down to 15° and reshaft to truly replace the 3 wood but no massive rush for this.

My 915F 3W is benched these days, in favour of my 18* 915H set at 17.25* and a 712U 3-iron. I found the 3W was one of the least used clubs in my bag, partly because I'm shithouse at hitting it off the deck. And I didn't find a great deal of difference in distance between my 15* 3W and 18* hybrid.

I run Driver, 17*, and 20* hybrids unless I'm playing a course that I've scouted as needing a 3W, and there are less and less of those I'm finding (and that aint because im getting any longer I can assure you...)

the 17* I can get out to 205 with a good strike, if I happen to need more than that and there's no real risk I can take driver off the deck if I havent put the 3W in... As mentioned above though I generally try to set up the hole to avoid this...

Think I will try the 2 hybrids this weekend, I should be able to reach 2 of the 5 PAr 5's in 2 with a decent drive and the other 3 are really not 2 shot holes.
