There is a young kid coming from Ipswich Jets/Broncos who is also a 5/8 or hooker. Matt Parcell.

I am hearing Barrett got in his ear about him being a 5/8 and not centre. Also heard that it is Walker who has had the issues with McGuire this year, alot of which is about him being trialled at 5/8 and not getting the spot.
Also hearing that the team as a whole are not that worried he is going. leaves a big hole in the back line though.

If the rumours of Roberts coming back are true the tide may turn. Remember most if not all transfer stories have been from the Courier Mail. Funny how they don't come back with we were wrong when the story they run is not true.
It was not salary cap that stopped Sam's contract, was a couple of the 3rd party deals. I think it may be sorted as the NRL ran a story on their website today wishing him a happy birthday in his South Sydney gear.

Were the Titans good or were the Knights just terrible ?

I think all the semi-blowout games were in the same style, except Souths v Roosters.

It seemed to me that the teams weren't as far apart as the scoreline indicated. One team were scoring from their kicks and the other wasn't, and in a few games there were a couple of lapses in goal line defence that made things look worse than they were.

The Roosters were the only team that looked genuinely awful, so they will probably win next game. It wouldn't surprise me if there are a few form reversals next week.

Captain Nemo
8th March 2016, 06:09 AM
Jim, will definitely surprise me (form reversals that is...)!

Grunt
8th March 2016, 07:06 AM
Roosters are lost with no one to get the repeat sets like they did last year. Their tactic of giving up penalties will not work this year as fatigue management will become more important. If they get a run of hard defence they can't just replace the forwards as they fatigue as easily as last year.
The importance of a halves combination was evident in Easts, Parramatta and Manly. It showed that without a decent combination plays just don't go forward. Even the Titans looked to have a bit of a combination and as a result had some good go forward in a very scrappy game.
Souths will step back a peg now with Reynolds out for up to six weeks, Sutton's loss not so as the back row depth is there.

jimandr
14th March 2016, 09:53 PM
My tipping wasn't too bad this round.

But what a disaster for my Supercoach fantasy team. Thurston and Shaun Johnson hardly score, Corey Oates gets injured and Billy Slater doesn't even play.

I did really well in Supercoach last year, so much so that I watched games mainly to cheer on the players in my team. I found it more fun to do that than to actually watch the game.

PerryGroves

Looks like some issues at Brookvale for super coach Barrett. Whilst I was certainly not jumping on the bandwagon and declaring the Eagles to be second line of betting, I was hoping for some improvement on last year.

Guess 25 odd years on the surgery and rehab is way better than in Sterlo's time, however by the same token Slater has been belted over the years. Seems to me given the way the game has gone, it's going to get harder to play into your 30s. He's a Qlder and from the Storm but I wish him the best.

Come a long way for sure. Slater has been belted long term, absolutely. He's not the biggest either. I remember at one stage Meninga sitting him out the first 15 or so when the tanks were full, think he had Hunt taking the whacks. I reckon you are spot on about the longevity.

Inglis will be a great replacement again, he's got that big size and strength and just can't be belted much at all. His returning of the ball is probably harder on the defense than himself LOL. Will never forget him replacing Slater for the decider a couple of years ago and running about 240 meters or more. Broke the first tackle all night coming back.

Another couple of bad calls costing teams points last night. Stuffed if I know how the touchy could have seen the Titans player ground the ball without any doubt and for the bunker to support the touchy's ruling. On field ref couldn't see it and had doubt so it probably should have been sent up as no try, instead he backed his touchy. Big call when there was no proof. Secondly I hate the Roosters as much as Manly possibly more. However I think the chooks were a bit hard done by with Auberson being ruled in front of the kicker. It was pretty line ball and don't care either way but without drawing lines over the tv he looked to be on to me. I think the NRL could have spent $2 mill better then this bunker system. It is just the video ref in makeup.

I agree re:Aubuson ... he was definitely onside and the try should have been awarded.

The Titans try was indeed a try .... on close inspection you could see the ball being grounded, however i doubt the touchy could've been 100% certain as it took a few looks, and an extreme closeup, to determine it from the Bunker.

I don't think the onfield refs should be made to make a call on Try/No Try in the ground, they should jusg send it to the Bunker right away and let them make the call.

You would think with the $2 million spent on the bunker they would be able to superimpose a line on the field like the NFL coverage does with the 1st down line.

That way the arguments would disappear.

The line in the NFL is a TV audience thing, and is not official. I reckon it would introduce all sorts of shit, particularly with forward passes.

It is going to be a difficult year for the NRL if the standard of play this round is going to be repeated every week. Saints v Penrith was awful, Parra v Wests was worse, and Sharks v Melbourne wasn't much better. So much one out hit up running and so little passing. It seems the offside rule has been repealed as well. I blame Glenn Lazarus and his cohorts in the Senate.

And yet, Broncos v Cowboys was a great game, so maybe be others were unusual rather that the norm. At this point though, those two sides look like the best teams. It could be a tough year for us NSW fans though, both in the premiership and in Origin.

I'd be surprised if a few other teams don't put it together good by the end of the season Jim. Don't forget there was substancial player movements for quite a few teams and it's way too early for the changed team dynamics to have bedded in. I'd be surprised if teams like The Warriors, Parra and The Sharks aren't firing hard at some point down the track.

Actually think it is starting show how much the reduced interchange is affecting player fitness. Alot of games are dour struggles untill after halfttime where fatigue kicks in and the mistakes start to occur. That along with teams having reduced gap between gamesto accomodate Monday & Thursday night football. Cant say that is affecting all teams as we know certain teams only play on Friday nights most of the year.

How does Dugan get picked at Centre for Australia. He's a superb player but was recently moved out of the centres in club footy as he was wasted there, not to mention a bit ineffectual and out of place.

If they were going to bite the bullet and push Inglis out of FB Dugan should have been considered there or left out. He's a lot more robust than Boyd which might not be a bad thing against the Mighty Kiwis. Morris racked up 200+ meters on the weekend and Jennings has been finding some good form among others.

Pretty sure Ferguson just spent a season at centre, would have been interesting with Dugan at the back, Boyd on the wing (as usual in rep) and Ferguson in the middle.

I'm a bit torn on Inglis, he's been pretty ordinary by his standards but at the same time he's been playing behind a beaten pack and ineffectual halves a lot of the time. I'm not convince he is over injury which is probably a big part of it.

Good to see Morgan in consideration and Jennings is in the extended. Be interesting to see how Ferguson goes too and the Semi has been, well, going like a Semi.

I wouldn't mind seeing Peter Wallace playing hooker for the Blues. I can't stand Farah & who's next in line, Nathan Peats who is crap? I'm a Sharks fan but Ennis looked old last year. Wallace is a more than capable defensively, gives us another kicking option & another point of attack.

Yeah I think that's a pretty fair call. I like him at Hooker better than in the halves.

This is why I'm not a betting man! ;)

Doggies need to sort their halves out. The forwards are doing their bit but the halves are shite.

I went to the game, absolute shithouse. We will make the 8 by default cause the other 8 teams are utter shite. Top 4 teams as is now will battle it out, same GF as last year.

The Eels appear to be in a lot of crap

Yep but softer penalties than those handed out to the Bulldogs and Storm.

If the Eels can fix their salary cap problems it's still mathematically possible for them to make the finals.

Just a tad!!

Mathematically possible but bloody highly unlikely. This will gut the players more than anyone especially seeing as they have to let players go. My guess is the Eels board will stuff it up anyway and won't get under the salary cap before the next round and will face more penalties!

Question is does the NRL now go and scrutinize EVERY club as surely there are 3rd party deals going on at every club. Would be proactive of them to do so. My guess is they will just continue to be reactive and only investigate after receiving an insider tip off

This will gut players because they're all about to be told they've just had a significant pay cut

I think the fact their season is over and that some of their mates will be sacked form the club will have more effect than a pay cut

Parra would be in 5th if they hadn't been caught rorting the salary cap 5 of the last 6 years.

So how did they manage to win two wooden spoons during that period ?

Cause they are a shit football club run by complete nincompoops!
If it was all planned and they got caught it's laughable..,
