Looking at irons with these shafts and want to know from those that have tried these if there is any difference between the 120 and the 130 in stiff flex. I believe it's only 3 gram difference in weight in the stiff flex but are there any other differences? Cheers.

there is a thread on Golfwrx, according to which the 130 are for late release, 120 for mid early release, if that makes sense.

I have played both in the last 3 months. I would have to double check, but aren't the 120 about 114g and the 130 about 124g?

They are completely different shafts. 120's are very tip stiff, 130's are tip soft.

Modus 130 a better feeling kbs tour. Modus 120 are... modus 120. Very butt soft, very tip stiff, unlike any shaft out there.

I love them, but they are an aquired taste. Definitely worth a demo first.

Yep, 2 sets with 120s. I don't have an issue with the lefts, so they work great for me.

Might be if I come over the top and the tip holds the face there!! 😁😁
Will try the 130 at some stage.

Thinking of reshafting the P2's with SPB's. They have 130's in them atm. Will let you know.

I have used both (120x and 130s). The 130 definitely play stiffer - 120x feels similar to 130s in terms of flex. I have struggled with the 120 - I am not sure if it is the head or shaft. I think they both feel great.

The 120 is weird in terms of flex. They play true to flex, but feel nearly a full flex softer.

If you are coming from a butt stiff shaft like kbs tour or px, they will feel like noodles, which puts a lot of people off.

I think I'll try the 130 first then. KBS Tour and PX are my current preference so the 130 sounds like it will suit me better. Plus being 10g heavier for the stiff flex is better for me too.

Hey Benno ...

How do the Modus3 120's and 130's compare against SPB's ? Any info appreciated mate.

SPB stouter than modus 120. I found the spb to launch higher than the hype suggests.

Didn't care too much for 130s or spb due to weight. Just too heavy.

Cool mate, thanks for the info.

How did the SPB'd feel flex wise ?

Did you think they play soft/to flex/stout ?

Thinking I may ss them.

Sorry, off topic I know !

I found them spot on soft stepped. Similar to R+ c taper in flex, little stouter than modus 120s

G'day Hardboiled ...

Are you able to put up a link to this guides ? PM if you prefer.

I must be getting old as I am finding the one with the Zelos/NS Pro/Modus info hard to read.

Cheers mate.

Modus 130 and 125 are bit higher launch, 130s feel heavy IMO

New modus 105 are compo with spo. modus and SP series all good shafts and now the modus have a weight for all. Great shafts.

Try shimada tour, very pure and great mid flight.

120's are great if you like them and they suit you

I have them in 2 sets and I love them. Just must be how I release the club but for me they are great! Lower launch the better!

I'm still playing 120's in my MX23's. On the very odd occasion that I'm hitting my irons well, which I don't think I've done since VIC champs, they feel great. Still don't really know if they're suited to me from a numbers perspective as I've never had a proper fitting using a launch monitor of any sort. A fitting and "new" irons are on the agenda sometime this year.

You're not helping Al !

But maybe it was fate that they came up for sale just after I made the post about wanting to get "new" irons.

Found this old thread.

After being fitted to the 120s, having a pretty good session hitting of mats on the range.
Decided to hit on some real grass. Went to have a hit on the course this arvo and had first my Noodle experience with this shaft. A few awesome shots, every now and then but just couldn't get timing/tempo consistent. Shaft felt lighter for some reason. Not going to bring out to comps yet, will keep trialing.

Chappy put a Modus 125 in my 9 iron and PW iron on my AP2s and I got a 3i T MB coming in also with Modus 125. Will see it goes!

Found this table on the nippon site. The Mizuno Swing analyzer thing did say ages ago that I had an early release so that would suit a Modus 120S.

http://akwoo.com.au/golf/NipponShafts.jpg

However I have gone from
KBS Tour - Mid Release
KBS Tour V - Late Release (only found this out recently, explains a bit)
Nippon Modus 120s - Early Release.

Is my swing that inconsistent that I keep changing swing type or do I just adapt to each one?

Wow. Totally different day today. Went early to warm up on mats and played a combo set. 7 - 9 iron AP1 Modus 120s, 9 - PW AP2 Modus 125s (AP1s different play 1 club stronger than AP2s)
Totally went pin hunting, got closest to pin 7i 165m! The thing with the Modus 120s, is that I have to play a smooth tempo and slow down my swing. Modus 125s, I can be a little bit more aggressive.
Getting good numbers too that were really close to my fitting.

Although it is a 7 iron, I think of it was a 6 iron still due to the AP1 stronger lofts.
The AP1 716 7i 31 degrees vs AP2 714 6i at 30 degrees
