One of the ground staff at Barnbougle told me wiping them with metho works too.

Like your missus' handbag?
So it's got your balls, some makeup, my phone number and the kitchen sink in it?

We've got mangy, four footed ball burglars at NH.

Here's a pic I took a few weeks back just after a mate's ball went bush.

No fear in these buggers!!

Yes, the one nearest me is taking a dump.. (no respect!)

And yes, that is what passes as a fairway in our neck of the woods..

HP, do foxes actually steal golf balls there?

I've never heard of that anywhere. Usually foxes are satisfied with picking off ducklings and the like.

The one advantage you should have is that foxes are usually considered pests, and as such are fair game for poisoning or shooting.

I have never understood why crows (and magpies) are protected so they can't be shot. It isn't as if they are endangered species.

Now that I'm commenting, as far as the OP is concerned, I'm not really sure there is a crow season as such. In my experience they are most active in breeding season, which is usually spring and early summer, but I think they will take golf balls all year round if they can.

Yes, they steal and either bury them somewhere (I've actually managed to catch up with one half way throught the process!), or run out under the boundary fence and stop and look at your with your ball in their mouth before scurrying off..

That photo is on our 2nd hole. It's a long par four that curves to the right where the green is partly obscured by trees. It has happened on several occasions where a player has hit a good shot, rightly thinking they'd find their ball on the green and then they've seen a member of the group ahead scurrying after something only to find that their ball had been picked up off the green by a fox and the member has tried to scare or chase the fox into dropping the ball - to no avail!

I wonder if they think they are eggs or it's just clepto maniac thing.

Crows like to bury them too.

Def maniacs of some variety around here! That said, to some I think it's a game. I had one bound out of a bush at my ball (on the green of course), stop, look at me and then sniff my ball, look at me, pick my ball up, wait (while I'm madly screaming and waving my club around from around 150m away), walk towards the bush a little, drop the ball, sniff it, pick it up and then woosh, gone!

Sounds like you've got a fairly major problem with the fury little buggers?
Do you guy have a local rule in play to deal with fox ball theft? Serious question as I know some clubs that have had a local rule to deal with Crow pinching balls on blind shots.
Are they currently being trapped to get rid of them as they are classed as vermin after all?

Hatch.. let me tell you a story.. nah, you haven't got time! lol! Seriously though, nothing but the barest minimum gets done at this course, much to the annoyance of the club and it's members. As far as missing balls are concerned, we apply 18-1 (outside agency), but without the sanction of 27-1 in certain cases where noone actually saw a fox take the ball.

Looks like a Crow took my Velcroed Neo Ghost GPS off my Buggy on Friday. I didn't notice it missing for a few minutes. Then remembered my spare glove was on the ground when we got back to our bags after our tee shot. I usually hang it of Velcro next to the GPS. Final clue was a pencil I also keep in the same place under some elastic, also found on the ground at the scene of the crime.. I did a search after the round through where they hang out. Lots of ill gotten gains debris on the ground under where they roost, but no sign of my GPS.

Probably wanted to see how far the next female is away, as the crow flies.

We've had crows at my club for a few months which are causing havoc, my group last Sat lost 7 balls in the space of 7 holes.

Our GM says we've applied for permit to "dispose" of them but we'll see if that happens as we're in a suburban area.

Did you find anything good?

Did you find anything good?

No, but I know of a few members that have ventured into the area before and found plenty of brand new balls, that I presume were in the empty ball sleeves that are strewn around their roosts. I found a empty foil of Voltaren 25s as well. I tried to tempt them with a foil of Panamax today, but no takers this time.

Maybe leave a full foil of Viagra in there and they'll be too busy doing other things to steal golf balls.

Sleep easy I'll sort them out when I'm there next. Got some 30 metre max in the shed.

Our crow problem is no more, our GM had a meeting with Parks & Wildlife who approved the "relocation" of said animals which I guess is the PC term for shot.
