Looking at a new set of irons to replace the Adams cmb.

I was considering the mp15 or 850 forge but they don't seam to rate as above.

The xr pro's are on the limit of size I'm happy with.

Anyone playing these?

Are you playing 714-ap2's they look nice but they are titleist irons and i have never heard them been called forgiving and hated the grind on the original ap2 irons.

The rsi2's are great, consistent, good feeling, decent looking, damn forgiving and freaken long, only hit them at the tmpc and would buy them in a heart beat, but 1k + for tm's doesn't sit well with me.

I've only had a few holes of play with my recently acquired 850 Forged. Will give them a full round before saying too much about them, but first impressions were pretty promising.

Probably about a club longer than the CG7 Tours I had in the bag for my comp round, mighty forgiving, and not too glary in the looks department.

Seriously pete the guys at the mga tmpl raved about these and put them miles in front of the tp's (they were the forged ones yes?)

Nothing bad but nothing great. Maybe looks good behind the ball.

Feel was ok, forgiveness was ok, results were fine, but no shots with them got me excited.

I had a set of the JPX-850 Forged, and they were okay. But no 3 iron, and I like a 3 iron. And they felt a bit harsh against other Mizuno's I've played, maybe the Boron?

RSi TP is pretty cool, but they do sound/feel a little different with the slots, and they're fairly expensive.

Callaway Apex worth a look, too.

I am also a big fan of my Covert Forged, though they might be a touch big. J38/j40 DPC's are also a solid performer.

Have a look at the Srixon 545 and 745 irons too. Look nice and they felt great. This coming from a cally ho.

Yep. They looked really nice as well.

The Vapor blade was DG S300 and the Pro Combo was DG Pro's S300. Would like to try both in different shafts like a C-taper or Tour V.

Srixons are the best of the bunch I have hit or owned.

+1. The 545's are amazing and I'm guessing the 745's are just as good. The main problem with the Srixons is that you fork out over $1K for a set and they'll be worth 2 cents when you want to sell them. No good for a ho. I've got the TM Tour Preferred MC's and they go well. Pretty forgiving for the size and they look really nice. They go a little further than other players irons I've tried as well. The RSI TP's look pretty much the same but I haven't hit them yet. Can't put my finger on it but there's something not quite right about looks of the RSI2's to me.

Ok did a fitting today instead of playing

Tried
Xr pro
Flyz+
Mp 15
Rsi2
Rsi tp

Below is taken with salt. Tried various shafts with most heads, the winner kbs s+ 120

Longest iron
Rsi2 7 iron 184m

Straightest
Mp15

Length dispersion
Flyz+
Close the rsi tp

Width dispersion
Flyz+
Then rsi Tp

Best two on the averages

Flyz+
Club head 92mph
Ball speed 124mph
Spin 5400 rpm
28 m peak
166m carry
Drop angle 45*

Rsi tp
Club head 91mph
Balls speed 122mph
Spin 5900
28 m peak
162m carry
Drop angle 46

i ran out of time to do some tests on my current 7 iron

JADO75

I could swap my 4 iron for an Rsi2 7 iron! Possibly a 6 iron as my 6 iron SS is 91mph.

5400 spin is probably on the low side but fine if you play on soft greens.

JADO75
23rd May 2015, 05:28 PM
I'm 165-170m carry with my 7 & that has me by near 20. Spin seems low but if they get up in the air & come down near vertical it's happy days

As I said its on a launch so a little more then a grain of salt.

I hit the Rsi 2 in 4 groups of 6 and each tims got two pure flyers

If I had hit my 7 iron I would know how real the numbers are. I did have 28m length difference with the rsi2. It was enough to put me off them.

I'm still surprised that the tp flyz+ were so stable on distance.

3oneday

184m with a 7 iron.

With that length I'd stick to dispersion to decide.

Definately not distance challenged even allowing for a juiced monitor. Dispersion, feel and certainly how it looks to his eye would be the biggies.

24th May 2015, 09:57 AM
I thought the thing with the rsi is that they were supposed to be better dispersion wise?

peter_rs
24th May 2015, 11:27 AM
The rsi don't help centre hits with a open or closed club face.

I agree that is why flyz+ looks like the iron followed by the rsi tp

By shape they are on really an update on my Adams cmb irons.

I just have to what to spend the money for retail as neither appears of eBay used yet.

Had a bit of time with 714 AP2's on Sunday. I haven't been a fan of them (maybe obviously). This set had Shimada k7001 stiff, and for the first time I have thought these were decent irons. I have tried them with DG, DG XP, and project X, and have always sucked.

Of the shelf, Fly Z+ / KBS Tour R+ would be my choice.

What was so good about the Shimada's?
I love the Shimada K's in my wedges. Silky smooth is the word I would use for them.
I have a set 4-PW of Shimada K's (don't know any more than that) that I put in the old 80's Cobra Mild Steels. There was no dramatic improvement from the TT??'s that were in them so want to put them in some thing else but don't have play $ atm to do anything about it.

I didn't think the Shimada's were fantastic, they launched high and spinny, and were too light (96g I think), but for the first time the AP2's didn't feel clunky or unforgiving. Definitely went up in my opinion.

I have had amp forged previously (with PX 5.5), and they were awesome. Set up like an AP2, but with feel, forgiveness, and performance. To me, they were the clubs AP2's wished they were. To an extent, I still think that with the Fly Z+.

A lot of people love AP2s, so they must be doing something right.

Played my vapor on a course I have many rounds with a bio cell and covert 2.0. Vapor was equal on length, but I missed 1 fairway today. By 3ft.

Clear upgrade to me, I hope people at least try it before they judge it. Though Brosnan isn't helping on that front.

Not sure how far you hit it, this guy is an absolute bomber. Maybe it doesn't perform, lengthwise, for high speed hitters.

I will with some more time I have only used them for 36 holes and no range time.

The look is close to the Adams cmb with a little more meat down low.

From above there is nothing to dislike.

I like the stock grips are nice

Forgiveness to me appears great. I have to trust them

The grove section appears smaller then other clubs but I think that's the rounded toe.

Worth a look at.
