I wish I didn't agree with this, but I do.

The NSW media and various other league identities are playing their usual game of spruiking their favourites and death riding the players they don't like. People who should know better are trying to get Mitchell Pearce in the team to play out of position at five eighth. Josh Reynolds is a pillock, and isn't playing well, but he was part of a winning team, so he should be worth at least the first game. But half the media want him out. We do this to ourselves almost every year.

It'll be a miracle if NSW win this year.

All this talk of dropping Hodkinson and Reynolds for Pearce and Moloney for origin is everything that is wrong with NSW Origin.

TheNuclearOne

Love it!!! For many years now our selections have been mostly no brainers, particularly the halves. I remember in our dark years somewhere around the mid 90's our 5/8 woes were killing us. Thank god another great one ended up coming along then Thurston stepped up later. NSW has a few selection dilemna's. I'd personally look to the future and play Dugan 5/8, he's a real Origin type competitior. Snakes injuries have taken their toll and he no longer racks up the work required in SOO imo. He's quality but Dugan can get down and dirty and rack up a huge workrate to help the forwards. Also super dangerous chasing and jumping for attacking bombs and a real tackle buster. Actually i hope you go with Moylan or Snake LOL! There's talk of maybe a ball plays fullback due to previous difficulty getting enough points.

Worries me that Gallen is out.

Chappy, I was living in Melbourne when they first took an Origin game there, guess it was 94 or 95. Was keen to take a few of the AFL punters from work and show them "real" football. Was hard to see the game because the G is so big, game wasn't great as they often aren't, the blokes from work were focussed on why they wouldn't try and kick for touch better.

Like most things people build up, the result rarely satisfies, I guess as well, there is no hatred. Most people from Melbourne are there just to see a game, problem is Origin is more about the triumph of the indomitable QLD spirit over the forces of evil the NSWRL and the ARL and other nefarious institutions designed to keep them down. :smt015

Join me in laughing at their paranoia, have a few beers, enjoy the hits, don't worry about the refereeing or trying to figure out their decisions. I have been watching for 45 years and have no clue anymore.

There are three things you need to know.

Firstly, the team you follow are angels, who would never knowingly do anything against the rules, and any breaches are only because the other team did it first.

Secondly, the other team are cheating scum.

Thirdly, and most importantly, everything is the fault of the referees. Remember to shout GET EM ON SIDE at least 100 times during the game.

I'm close to agreeing. A big help to DCE is that he has been blooded a bit now and knows a lot of the team plays as well. Some have been built around him coming on as a sub previously. Hopefully he has matured a bit since his last actual starting Origin. It would have been daunting to throw Hunt in there straight up.

He needs experience playing with the others in the team. Whether they let him get that or give Morgan or Hunt a run we will have to see. Part of Kronk's value is the rapport he has with Smith and Slater. At times DCE was expecting someone to be where they were not, and his reaction to that was poor. Knowing what the QLD selectors are like they will stick with him.

Don't take anything away from the young NSW forwards. They were outstanding.

My son just had the exact same injury that Cronk had, a lateral meniscus tear. My lad was out for 7 weeks, could have pushed it to get back in 6, but he waited. This was without surgery.

Cronk had immediate surgery, which would have been a basic cartilage shave. I am expecting him to play. It's an injury that you can't re-do, an strength wise it will be fine.

Without Cronk, Qld lose, unless Hunt starts at 7.

Went both ways though. NSW gave a way just as many penalties for offside. Keeping them apart definitely makes it a better game for mine.

Funny hearing the DCE comments. Kind of like whats been dished up about NSW halves. Always going to happen when you don't have a halves combination that regularly play together. Cronk gets away with it because he knows Smith, Slater so well. Thurston is just a freak!

Have heard some whining about the Inglis no try... what about the Hodges forearm to Hoffman (that has since gone on report) To Hoffmans credit he got up and just played on. I doubt the likes of Inglis, Thurston, Cronk, Smith and even Hodges would have got up and played on from that hit?? NSW should have had a penalty and been pushing the line instead the next set QLd score! Could have been a game changer.

Gagia will be in the centres. Has been in the extended squad all along. If Cronk is fit and I would say he will be, I would drop both DCE and Morgan and play another forward off the bench. Napa perhaps or Papali. I think we were lacking a forward with a bit of mongrel off the bench.
Not so sure about Gagai in the centres ? I think they might throw him on the wing and shift Chambers into the centres. Out of the two i believe Chambers is the better defender. GI to the back is a no-brainer.

I agree about Napa. I'd like to se him get a run on the bench. He's the bigger body we need on the bench, probably at the expense of Lillyman.

DCE will more than likely replace Morgan as the utility if Cronk returns.... Mal has already said he still backs DCE as a player for our future.

I was at the game on Wednesday, the Qld forwards (bar Thaiday) did not hit the line with any pace or commitment at all. They need to muscle up big time in the next game or it will be a similar result at Lang Park.

I heard Parkers name called once all game, he is generally on his game at tis point in time. Thaiday is always on for Origin. Worst performance than DCE was when Hodges scored twice for NSW at the start of his career. As they said the 50/50 class can go either way. All these Qlders calling for DCE head goes to show you can't please them at all. Get over it it's just a game.

I reckon they'll go with GI so he can have that roving role that makes him so dangerous.

We're just lucky we have Boyd there who could more than capably fill the role if needed.

Should test out Daleys stance on bad behaviour.

It'll test News Ltd's stance on bad behaviour. They are normally boiling with rage, but everything changes when an origin star is involved.

On that subject, you Qld guys should be thankful you aren't seeing the Sydney media coverage. It was ultra doom and gloom after the first game, now it is the dawn of a new dynasty. Klemmer and Woods are the new superstars of League, and certain future immortals. It is just pathetic, and they'll change again if NSW don't win.

21 tackles in the first half when the heat was on and 39 for the game. Add two offloads, a tackle bust and a try assist. Only the two hookers matched his tackle count.

Surprised Milford hasn't been bandied around anywhere this year.

No debate that he always comes flying in, but it's to get involved, wrestle, pull people away etc. He's not a cheap shot merchant. Quite enjoyed his running battle with Hargreaves a while back, neither took a backward step. I didn't know if Thaiday had it in him to quite that extent.

I was most amused to see the front page headline in the Courier Mail today. If they aren't allowed to leave the pitch unless they win, will they still be there next May if they lose? It reminds me of a Des Hasler quote from a few years ago when he said that losing was unacceptable in a particular game. Of course his team lost. And apparently it was acceptable, as his players weren't all sacked.

For the record, I still think Qld should win, but I hope they don't, just to see the Courier Mail's reaction.

I have the exact opposite reaction.

I saw a lot of cricket, and every time I flicked it back over, Qld scored within a couple of tackles. So it was back to the cricket again.

About the only positive I can get out of the game is that we can officially blame Michael Ennis for everything. Either that, or Dane Gagai and Josh Papaali are such superstars that their mere presence caused a 50 point turnaround.

I don't see him wearing a Qld jersey in the next few years. Did anyone see Thurston giving Pearce a mouthful close to the end at a scrum. You are forgetting the biggest difference. If this guy was not injured last year the run would still be going IMO.

Irregardless of lineups QLD's determination and mindset was amazing. Everything just flows when Cronk is there, he gives them so much direction. With DCE there they can just gang up on Thurston, not so when Cronk is out there scheming and sharing the organising.

Inglis was brilliant at fullback, quite liked the future blueprint of he, Chambers and Gagai. Gagai might pop straight into Hodges spot. Morgan looked dangerous soon after coming on and can really sniff out a try. Guerra is an ideal SOO type forward. We have Milford and Hunt coming thru in the halves, just need a few young big men to raise their hands moving forward.

Plenty of things to think about for the Blooes. They were smashed in the forwards and starved for possession so their halves may get a small reprieve. Still don't believe Hodkinson is SOO standard when push comes to shove and Pearce was a bit of a turnstile out there last night. Dugan's been excellent all series and should be a no brainer selection.

I really don't think we can play that amazingly well again in the near future, crazy stuff. Hodgo's retirement, Mal's b'day, Smith's criticism. All the stars aligned for us last night.

Pearce was missing in action last night, and seems to go missing when NSW need him. Whenever QLD push up close to the try line or are on the 4th or 5th tackle, you'll see Smith, Cronk, Thurston getting the ball, attacking and making the big plays. Mitchell Pearce doesn't seem to in Origin, it's like he's not the go to guy for the team.
