How far are Ping irons able to be bent as heard more than once that they're not the best to bend?

Asking as have seen some irons at a good price BUT they are Maroon/+5* whereas as I play irons 2* flat! (guessing that's too far!?)

Cheers.

Each colour code is 0.75deg I think.

A no goer, the difference is too extreme to bend 'em.

When I got my blues bent to orange I got told that was the most they can handle... 3deg

That chart is based on what Ping will safely guarantee. They probably will go further, but would get a bit sketchy. I moved some RBZ Tours 4deg the other day. Was getting a bit scary there for a bit.

It means Ping won't bend them. Either even they think it is too risky, or they can't replace it if they bust it. Not sure which one.

What and where are these stupid upright made for freaks irons? you'd have to be 6ft 5 and have a big FatGuts to play these.
I'd just heat and bend. At 2o flat look you would be better doing some yahoo.jp

Next time I need to do this, I'm going to try the Ping method of clamping the hosel and using a rubber mallet.

Have been told the mallet is the way to do it but ping irons are known to move back to original lie angles if not done correctly

Ping staffers don't use the mallet method anymore

Ahh yes they do.

Well I watched a video last year of the ping tour van at the PGA tour, and one of the techs was bending irons, as they have a new machine to do it, and there is no rubber mallet. Maybe still using a mallet if they don't have the latest bending machine.

So if they don't use the rubber mallet what do they use to bend the club? (Serious question)

Are you sure it's not the digital (camera based) loft/lie machine that PING use?

The vid I saw, that were using a bending bar. I remember him saying they didn't use a mallet anymore. Could be just that one tour van for all I know.

PING use a mallet to change the lie angle and a u-shaped bar to adjust the loft.

Apparently it has to be done quickly for it to work properly, that's why the bending bar doesn't work?
Just what the local pro told me when I asked him to bend my wedges for me on Wednesday.

If you change the lie angle with a bending bar PING say they will move back over time. But by hitting them with a mallet it shocks them into place and has no "memory" of where it was previously.
