View Full Version : SA: Glenelg Final for Race To Bonville Sun March 22

Sunday March 22 is the final round for the Race To Bonville qualifiers at Glenelg.

Oz Golfers coalesce, Higballin and HatchmanSS67 have all qualified and have a chance to hopefully win a trip to Bonville.
Thecollective lost the Order of Merit and automatic free trip on a count back and can't make it to the final due to playing a retro game in another state.
All three are in different grades (grade winners on the day get the trip). What would the odds be that we all make it?

Non qualifiers are welcome to join the day but are unable to win the prize (the trip). You have until this Friday 13th to get your entry into brettf@golflink.com.au

Looking forward to this. Not playing comp this weekend to look after that shot I just back with a flagged round 2 game ago :D

When I spoke to them on the phone, they said the event had a seeded draw based on order of merit positions, so there's a chance 2 of us may end up in the same group, or we could be 1 each in the last 3 groups...

Draw has just been sent.
Highballin is in the first group at 8:25.
I'm in the second.
Poor coalesce is in the third group and playing with the cheat/wayne ker that doesn't hand cards in.
We are all off the 1st tee.

And a woman :)

It doesn't matter to me, I'm going to be in a zen-like trance whilst playing with my bucket and spade in the bunkers

I found some fairway traps that I couldn't carry and couldn't get out of either. Then I found one that I could carry and run out of fairway on the other side. It's all about position at Glenelg both on the fairway and the green. Looking forward to it, the course was in tip top shape and greens roll true.

Can happily report that the handicap cheater didn't win.
Had a good old chuckle when he asked where to hand in the cards.

Thanks guys it was good fun to play those courses. Had a great group of guys today we went round in 4hrs easy not rushed plenty of time for everyone's shots. All helped if needed to find a ball. No pretenses if you were ready to hit then hit. Same on the putting green if you wanted to look from a couple of different angles no problem then someone else would putt if ready.

Day started well and crashed crushing all chances in the space of 4 holes.
Solid par on the 1st after lipping 15 footer for bird.
Hit drive well on the second down the line of pines but didn't fade back. Stayed in the trash and sand amongst pines. Played a great 8 iron over the top to 50m out. Put that 8 foot away and hole the putt.
Block 4iron behind deep bunker on right of par 3 third. Flop to 6 foot and make putt.
Hit good drive down the tight bunker lined par 4 forth. 50m out and stiff it 3 foot for easy bird.

Stand on short par 5 fifth 1 under and 2 points up on stableford. A row of bunkers on the left and water on the right waiting for a block or slice. Take 3wood for accuracy and hit a massive block fade finishing on fairway of hole just played (no damage). Take 3 wood again as can't hit 2 shockers in a row (wrong). Cold top second shot just avoiding the water finishing on fairway 210m out. Take 3 wood again as can't possibly hit 3 bad ones with club (wrong again). Another big block cut leaving 70m to narrow green with cavernous bunkers shot and long for angle. Hit a good 56 stopping just short of running into long trap. Lip the 20 footer out for a happy to make bogey in the end and back to even par.

Things took a turn for the worse after that hole. Hit driver through the dogleg into fairway trap. Need 6iron to get home but trap is too deep so take 8iron which should get over lip. Thin that into face but it pops out into the spongey couch rough. Take 6iron this time but catch it a bit heavy hitting a hooded smother hard left. Ball finishes just behind reed grass in waste area. Try to hit flop over reed grass but it eats ball staying in the middle of it. Chop it out 2m and proceed to duff the last shot for a point from 15m. Gone from cruising to behind in 2 holes.

Make very soft bogey on the next from good spot left edge after lipping the save from 8 foot. Pull the guts out of tee shot on the 8th and have to hit a provisional which is nailed to prime spot. Sure enough can't find 1st shot so playing 3 from fairway. Block the guts out of that and narrowly miss scrounging an up and down for a point. Wipe the 9th after hitting a good drive down the left side that catches the part of the pine over hanging the bunker. Can't find a ball anywhere. Thinking there is a good chance it's stuck in all the pine cones as it's as thick as in the spot it went in. All chances gone buy that stage with 12 points for 9.

10 after 4 and 12 for 9 FFS. Played ok on the back for 17 pts with 2 soft doubles on the short par 3's to round out the day with 29 pts. 35 was good enough to win the trip in A grade.

Course was in great condition and much different to what I remember. Position off the tee is so important around this course, more so than a lot of the others. Greens were slick but so true to putt on and didn't break much at all. I think most were allowing for breaks that weren't there.

Thanks guys for your excellent company throughout the series, sorry to hear nobody got up this year. IMO Glenelg is the toughest course in SA and can tear you apart very easily.

Finally picked up my Golf Buddy LR4 laser today. Gotta say worth the wait. There was nothing wrong with my old Laser perfect working condition. But the LR4 is Super quick to lock onto target. One happy camper:lol:
