i'd suggest Peter_rs as the obvious candidate.

Either Keza, or Nudgee or Jaster or BV

Nudgee and BV aren't candidates (no offence fellers) haven't seen Jaster. Jack is longer than Jamie and Dion, and Peter_RS with his LD club would surely be longer than any of us??

:shock::shock::shock: Jack is longer that Jamie:shock::shock::shock::shock:
he must hit it HUUUUUUGE

Jamie and Dion both hit it about the same as me, Jack hit it past me pretty consistently on Sunday so he kept reminding me....

Moe, Jamie can hit the ball a F^$cking LONG wa y when he goes for it..... and as for Jaster... WOW

BrisVegas

Of the regular golfers, stoney is sneaky long. His average drives are longer than my good ones. Nudgee is also capable of some scary drives at times when he cranks it up to about 40% of his potential...

Thommo - a couple of years ago we had a launch monitor night at Oxley and Jamie had the highest club head speed and longest drives.

Maybe we should do it again one day and let the young guns (Thommo & Peter_RS) have a crack...

990B Luva

actually Dion, if i remember correctly it was Jaster who peaked highest at 115MPH.... i peaked at 112Mph so far

I have played with most of you guys at some stage but I would have to say Nudgee would hold the title :) Then maybe Vegas & Jaster
If I find the middle of the Driver (very rarely) I can get them out there as well, but not compared to Nudgee ;)

Well, I've never played with any other ozgolfers, but I can confidently say it ain't me. Like me other talents, though, what I lack in length, I make up for with style... ;) :p

ahh yes, that's right. Jaster had too much spin or something that night which cost him "distance" on the launchy. Nudgee's distance was the longest though, right??

You're really cranking it out there now too Brett! God help us all when you get some meat on your bones.

if i make good contact and actually put some effort in i can get it out to about 300m (absolutely nailed)

If anyone here is longer, then they should be in the US competing.

Well I will back Steve (aussielongdriver) on playing with him and seeing him hit a drive and hearing a funny noise. It was the bonded metal inserts coming off his driver and shooting past a mate and I stand on the tee beside him. He was hitting it long all day.

I think he came 3rd last year in the LD titles.

Matt - Riverside Oaks... 12th hole? Par 5, Stephen had nothing more than a GW for his 2nd - let's say 110m?

Cold morning, dew-covered ground. Some peoples cars on the way there for the 7am start called 1*. If only it were in summer, and he was using a long-drive ball. He played a Pro V1x that morning.

Matt 3 Jab
21st March 2006, 10:24 PM
i hear he is very long, but isnt that the hole where you can cut the corner??
matt 3 jab, Kogarah's 13th hole, par 5, pitched it over the tree from the next tee with a lob wedge from 60 metres out for his second............. the hole only playes probly 350m's hahaha, i got nothing!!!

Matt, you have recently played Liverpool ?? I played with Stephen there, 2 par 5's on the back nine, I think 12 ??? he hit 9 iron into the greenside bunker from 170 !!!

17th he hit 8 iron over the back.

I spray it all over the place, but in couple of games I've had with Jamie I've generally hit it past him but neither of us have exactly played well on either occasion.

Consistent length or average length I'd back Stoney and Jack of the people I've played with, both aren't outrageously long but both are consistently long.

Longest I've seen is Nathan Ubergang though!

I've never been on a launch monitor.

On the course. Not LD hitting (which is a different game altogether)

Interesting that there is no one clear obvious choice as to who is the longest.

Too many variables. How often you play with someone compared to others, how long it's been since you've played with someone. Course conditions play a part. My home course where I've played a lot of golf with jaster dosen't get a lot of run. So are we talking only carry or carry and roll. You see on the pga tour how much difference roll makes when their fairways run like our greens.

Longest I've ever played with was a mate of jasters who made him look short (almost). Peter rs and Shazza will know the hole I'm talking about. The 15th at middle ridge is a 390mtr par 4 dogleg right. He went over the trees to within 40mtrs of the green. On the par 5 1st, a straight par 5 he tees off with a rescue. He only hit driver a handful of times on the course.

I've played with people who can get their drives out there, but never with someone who was so consistantly long tee shot after tee shot regardless of where it went.

As far as on ozgolf - throw a heap of names in the hat. On their day it could be anyone of a number of people.

Jarro

Yeah, Ubergang is streets ahead of anyone I've played with (or in front of). ALD is probably much the same from all reports.

Of the regular golfers, there are plenty of guys who can get it out there, so it's impossible to say who is the longest. Of the guys I know, stoney is longish and hits fairways, which makes him an excellent all-around driver. I'm not impressed by wild swingers who hit the occasional monster that lands on the hole they're playing, but the majority are in the trees.

Nathan Ubergang is a very long hitter, but alas not very straight. Craig Scott is the longest straight hitter I have seen. He would get Nathan by about 10-15 metres most of the time.

Jack 100% incorrect. AussieLD (Steve) is the winner by a very considerable distance. He was the 2004/5 Australian Long Drive Champ and as someone said he finished top 3 this year.

Anyone who thinks they can challenge him is dreaming. I can honestly say I have never seen or heard a golf ball hit with a ferocity that he hits a ball -absolutely astonishing.

Moe,

Last I looked Stephen was playing off around 5 -so yes he can actually hit a few fairways as well -the day we played he was a consistent 290-300 metres off the tee, hit most of the fiarways and was using a standard length driver.

Keza -yep you get longest Chick.

Andrew
22nd March 2006, 09:51 AM
I would like to nominate myself for the shortest hitter off the tee.

I can hit my drive out of the middle & still keep it below 220m. I can do it with any loft driver, whether it has a 45inch shaft or a 43inch shaft. And yes Jack, I can do it just as well on the course as at the driving range.

If I put my hat on the ground at the driving range, people throw coins in it because they feel sorry for me. Little children laugh at me.

Miro, you misunderstood what I said. I have no doubt that Steve is the longest here by a mile, but I was drawing the distinction of play on the course and LD contests. I would be interested to hear Steves view on how much "shorter" (if any) he hits in when playing the course as opposed to when he is cranking them out in the LD contests.

Jack.only shorter because the shaft is, he just steps up and rips everything.

As Tiger and friends are now proving, the fairway stat is one from a bygone era, they just don't care as long as they end up with a wedge in hand. That's where the scoring is...

Jack,

I think I posted again saying that he is a standard 290-300metres off the tee in regualtion play. And that ain't on the runways the Qld guys call fairways. He is simply monsterously long.

Having played major pennants in Sydney for the past 3 years I thought I had seen "long" single figure players. Well they are not playing the same game as he does.

I never said it but thats what I implied, by "skilled few". That means no one on here (sorry to those it offends) and even half the pga field cann't bomb it long into any rough/trees and setup a real birdie chance.

I'll agree that ALD is scary long. Check out the thread of My Longest Drive where he states that he hit it through a 376m Par 4. Admittedly downwind but still huge. Have watched him hit driver wedge into 500m par 5's.

His handicap (at somewhere between 2 & 5) proves that he is also straight (ish).

Those at Riverside Oaks will remember his drive on the 12th (the hole Blysma ended up driving) 455m par 5 where he caught trees and was still only 35m ish off the front. None of us believed anyone could hit that far so Trung stole the ball thinking it had been lost.

My memorable long drives from games with ozgolfers!

I've only played with nudgee once (I think) at middle ridge during the city/country duel (which country won I might add) and it really wasn't his day if I remember correctly. But one of the early ozgolf (isg actually) days I arranged was at nudgee. I remember nudgee and jaster were in one group and seeing some huge drives down the 18th. Nudgee was out the longest and damn if it weren't a cracker. I think he only had a lobbie to the green and half of that was sideways.

I hadn't played many games with jaster when he and I headed to indroop with onewood and terry. I'll add that jaster and I went down baby in our matchplay, but I can still remember his drive on the back nine, I think it was like the 13,14 or 15th. The green was a bit elevated, most of us got our drives out there but jasters was halfway up the upslope to the green. It was playing something like 350 or 360 that day as the tees were up a bitand if anything there was a tail wind. But that has stuck in my head. Full length was about 370mtrs. He took a photo of that drive.

The next was brisvegas at my home golf club, city gc in toowoomba. I was setting up to play a chip from just off the front left of the 7th green. Next thing I know a ball rolls around me and onto the green. I look back to see vegas' figure on the tee about to pick his tee out of the ground. It might have even been during our pro-am a couple of years ago. 7th is about 320ish mtrs and I don't think there was anything of a tail wind, probably more crosswind if anything.

That's all I've seen of the monsters. Then again, I don't get to many of the games. Hoping to change that in the future.

Next thing I know a ball rolls around me and onto the green. I look back to see vegas' figure on the tee about to pick his tee out of the ground.

LOL, I remember that! I damn near 3-putted that for par too... Show's you what a crap putter I've BEEN. I always seem to thread impossible tee shots onto short par 4's and then three-putt. I did it 3 consecutive times on the 4th at Barnbougle last year. Fair dinkum, I got the touch of an elephant!

With all the Qlders fighting for the title, I must insist that the Shortest Driver per pound of weight must go to one of two NSWmen. Jimandr or Fishman Dan. Take your pick.

Out of the Ozgolfers I have played with:

1st: ALD with LD length driver
2nd: ALD with Standard length driver
3rd: ALD with 3 wood
4th: Daylight
5th: Speirsy (when he goes after one)
6th: Matt3Jab
7th: Nudgee
8th: Peter_RS (when he gets it in the right direction)
9th: BV
equal 10th: 3oneday and miro

Other notable mentions:

Longest per pound of body weight: Trung
Longest iron distance when compared to his driver distance: Tezza
Longest female: Mrs Miro (haven't played with Keza and Shazza)

Woohoo. Top 10 performance!!!! Go me!!!!!!

Personally I'd back myself in against that young whippa snappa Matty -but hey who can argue with the bible of distance Jono's Official Long Distance Ranking Scale Measure (or JOLDRSM for short).

the JOLDRSM is the bible!! hahaha good one miro, and people can bomb it past me all day, i guess we'll all have to have a sydney long drive day at a golf course with real balls and distance!
990B, you got me, when u get some meat on you you will bomb it past most of us for sure!! and congrads, i think you just made up a new form of physics measurement, th 990B KG/MPH ratio.

Mmm I must admist being ranked equally with a guy using a REGULAR flex driver shaft does seem a bit harsh -but who can doubt the wisdom of JOLDRSM.

Bruce

We need a meta forum so that things like the JOLDRSM can be maintained.
We will need a set of scales at the champs to determine the rankings correctly.

That and the various records, honour boards etc.

whats wrong with a regular flex driver?

as long as it suits the swing, who cares.

on GD WITB there are a few tour pro's with regular shafts in their driver.

Moe,

Nothing -if you swing like a little girlie :)

Whilst on the subject of Long Hitters......

Aussie Scott Hend lead the US Pga Driving with an average of 292 metres.....they teamed him up with 3 members of NSW Golf Club of 8 14 and 19.....he hit the T Shots on all the par 4s and 5s.....they had to do the rest......wont bore you with all the details....but the extra distance basically did them all 2/5s of nothing...... but its a good read in Golf Digest

i read that Hat man.

it also said that he hit 3 wood to within 20 meters of at least 3 of the shorter par 4's

I'm 71kg with swing speed at about 95mph ... so that's 1.33 on the 990B scale. Good thing is I don't need that ratio when on the green :)

Actually, Spiers does bash the ball.

If we're talking power:weight, definately the wimpy looking Canadian! :p

Thanks Dan and Jono :)........And I'll agree, I'll give anyone on here a run except ALD. Some of the shots he hit at the Springs (that was the place we all played at right? On the way to the Hunter?) were disgustingly long. I remember one on the 12th, into a breeze that had to be 315m. SICK.

For length to weight, Jono isn't far off at the range......

Ahh .. only if golf was played on the range ...

BTW, I thought Springs was going to eat ALD alive with it's water hazards and tight fairways, but he managed to hit the ball pretty straight that day. Beat Trung pretty convincingly in their matchplay, I believe ... 8)
