Alright guys, got the "job" to redesign the Golf Clubs website on the cheap.

What's the best one out there?

Weebly?
Dudaone?
Wix?

Started using Wix to throw something together but quickly found out that none of their templates are responsive. Instant deal-breaker for mine.

Haven't looked into this much so not sure even where to start...

Just want something clean and simple like this:

Landing page:
34767

Main pages:
34768

I did this for a uni assignment through wix:

I thought it was easy enough to use as a Noob.

Weebly looks interesting and is definitely on my list. Mobile / tablet browsing is a big need for me so will have to look at how their templates function on there. No undo button in their editor is a strange one, but apart from that they look great.

Yeah, Wix is a piece of piss to use but as mentioned above, I HAVE to have a responsive template, so they're out.

Just did our office website again, this time in Wordpress Happy with that and plenty of support. So much better than Joomla and Mambo.

Thrown together something over a few hours on Weebly tonight. Have a gander and tell me what you think guys, especially from a mobile and tablet point of view also...

Thanks!

NB. Don't worry too much about the pics etc, they're just to give a basic feel. They're about 10 years old and the course has changed a bit in that time. I'll be going out and getting good ones. Still a few little things to whack in (logos etc) but it's probably 80% done in it's current form.

I just had a crack at navigating around the whole site via iPad, clicked all the links, and everything seemed to work OK and was easy to use. As you mentioned, you can probably just have a play around with fonts and text colours once you have selected the background pics so you can see what looks best and is easily readable. (e.g the red text currently used for the links to the entry form, calendar and the phone numbers is a bit hard to read against the current background pics)
Take the above comments as those from an average punter, not someone that has the faintest idea about website design.

On the Ipad, the dropdown menus (Home, About Us, Golf etc) overlap the text on the page that is open making them difficult to read.
Other than that it looks good.

Lefty, is the site just for information or will members book tee times etc, I know we use this, unsure on whether its ciost effective for a smaller club.

Similar on my phone (iPhone 4s FWIW). The mobile version seems to have "squished" it all in. Desktop version has no such problems.

Apart from the layout in mobile version it looks good.

Thanks very much gents, comments taken on board. I'll see what I can swing to fix these things up.

Much appreciated!

I would LOVE to get an online booking system going, but have heard that miclub is hideously expensive.

I'm not sure who set up our current website deal but apparently we're being charged $120 a month for hosting (hence why they've asked me to do this), so hopefully that money could go towards the miclub booking system instead.

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure on what it costs?

Yeah I'm pretty sure MiClub is not cheap. I heard around $20k to get us setup (though that probably includes the 4 PCs and card readers around the club for booking, score card reading etc).

If MiClub is cost prohibitive then One Golf is another option and is targeted for smaller clubs.
It's not a fully automated print card, scan card system but is very user friendly for the things the user has to do.
Kapunda has been using it for years and it works well. Even the old farts have the hang of it.

Cheers Hatch. I see OneGolf is by MiClub anyway, but might be a viable option. Will have to have a chat with the executive and see what we have in place already.

Might be just me Lefty, I find the yellow phone numbers difficult to read. For newer members, a photo of the board guys and maybe the team from the pro shop would be good.

Thanks all, closer to 95% done now, Course Tour guides and photos all up etc. Changed fonts to help readability.

Can I get some peeps to check it out again please?

Have gone a different format now for Course tour 3PP, can you check for me now please?

Background darkened a little now to try to alleviate, how does it look to your eyes now?

Board members maybe not a bad idea but we lost our Pro (and his shop) about 12 months ago, so no "Pro Shop Staff" so to speak.

When I'm taking the course tour, I get to hole #3 and then the hyperlinks to other holes don't seem to work.

Also, only small but when viewing hole #10...The button for 10 still remains but on all the other pages, the hole button you are viewing disappears.

And, I must say when reading the walls of text's (history page) it wasn't fun reading the white bold text. Maybe darken the opacity of the background on some pages where there is lots of text.

Awesome Wenz, thanks for picking up on those first two, very handy stuff that I just don't notice after staring at it for hours.

Yeah, have to find a way to break up that history page somehow. Even if the content is perfectly readable it's still just waaaaay too long. But will see if I can at least darken the opacity for that page.

Thanks bud, much appreciated.

Also noticed that the twitter button leads to your (personal twitter?)
Not sure if this was meant, so I searched to see if the club had a twitter which didn't come up.

I'm looking on my iPhone and the mobile versions seems pretty good to use.
Competition Results seems to be not there or not clickable. I can't seem to see anything there except the Week Ending titles.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm assuming I need to see the Executive to start a Twitter account for the club, so just put my own in there as a placeholder to remind me.

Yeah, don't mind how the simplified mobile version looks (there's very little I can actually alter with that, just a few different templates that are pretty similar).

Thanks AA, the comp results was the other thing I needed to link. The desktop site displays the PDF document in a scrollable frame, but the mobile site doesn't display that so need to make the headings a downloadable / clickable link too. Cheers for the reminder.
