On behalf of Grunt, 3pp and myself, we're happy to play wherever we can get on.

We are mindful of the fact that this is your champs...and although appreciated, we don't expect you to change Friday's plans for the few that can't get in any earlier.

I'm just glad the jacket, wine and portable glory hole will be passed on to a worthy champ, never to be spoken of again..

What he said with a couple of exceptions.

The wine's gone and the glory hole is mine for good.

No dramas mate, not trying to be a pain. Mrs wants to come along, but need to decide accommodation options, things she wants to see etc...

At the moment the confirmed games, (as far as I am aware at this present time but seeking confirmation!?), are Thursday: Tanunda Pines, (north/Barossa Valley), Saturday: Gawler GC, (north again), Sunday: RAGC, (central). If as rumoured the Friday game is at Victor Harbor then that is down south! Monday I believe Coalesce was looking after but he is in the UK at the moment, the Monday round would be an early morning so wouldn't be a drama to book late, would be best to go somewhere not too distant, The Vines etc!

If you played Tanunda/Thurs and Gawler/Sat dropping Victor/Fri, (being quite a way away), you could stay up in the Barossa for those days, nice spot, plenty of wineries and scenic spots/towns to visit. Then book to stay in/near the city on the Sunday after RAGC which would also make it easier to get to the Monday game if you're playing!

For the Monday I was thinking of The Vines but if numbers/time permits we could go anywhere we can get on. It would be a morning time, around 8-9

I get back to Aus late next week. Will get on it then

What is the Monday options?

Sorry peter_rs I missed this amongst all the babbling!

Monday has been left open at the moment as it will really come down to the travel arrangements/time available etc of the people playing, (which at the moment sits at 2x locals and 2x fly-ins). If not in a rush to catch flights etc then somewhere like Links Lady Bay could be a venue, but if time is tight then somewhere more local like The Vines as mentioned would be the go.

Mondays tend to be pretty quiet on the courses here so there's no real rush to lock this one in. As I said, it all comes down to the time available of those wanting to play. I believe that last year a group had an early tee-off at Fleurieu/Mt Compass.

jimandr
1st July 2015, 04:37 PM
At this stage I intend to stay the extra day and fly out Tuesday morning. I only have one flight option each day, at 8.20 in the morning, so I'd prefer to rest up and/or see any sights that are worth seeing on the Monday. So a game at somewhere like The Vines suits me fine.

Tanunda and Victor don't list their Green Fees prices on the web. Fairly confident they would be some where between $45-$60.
Those that have played either recently should be able to give an exact $.

Monday hasn't been fully decided yet but won't be any more than the 2 above with some of the options discussed.

From a quick check, myself and highballin were the only ones to play all 4 days last year. 4 people played 3 days. 2 people played 2 days and the rest 1 day. However last year, the champs itself was only ever the Sunday, and the other days were for those who wanted to make a weekend of it.

This year, the intention is to make it a 2 day champs (I'm assuming stableford total) over the Saturday and Sunday. I will arrange rounds on the Friday and Monday for anyone coming early/staying late. The courses will be the best ones that I can get us on that we haven't already done at the weekend, but will depend on the numbers interested.

Last year the Friday round was at a Tier 1 course, Kooyonga, and the Monday was at Fleurieu, which at the time was ranked in the top 100 courses in Aus (not sure if they've re-rated since?). There are plenty of decent courses at decent prices in the area tho, even if they are not considered Tier 1 in Aus.

I will play all four.

Ferrins: Originally Saturday was going to be Lady Bay but was changed to Gawler at the 11th hour. I suggested we do Tanunda on Friday but the opportunity to play a tier 1 (Kooyonga) certainly outweighed that suggestion. Since then it has moved to Victor due to a corporate golf day. I agree from a logistical standpoint it makes no sense but many are staying in the city anyway so regardless of location it will be a 'dartboard' tour for the interstate players.

Original Fri game had to be moved as 1st choice could only get on am due to corporate day bookings. And I suspect it will be exactly the same every year on that particular Friday unless interstaters can either get in super early or the night before. It's unfortunate but understandably clubs will cater first and foremost to corporate days. But I'll ask the club if this is the case of long range pre-bookings for corporates on that day.

Thursday and Saturday games are near each other and Friday's game is over 2 hrs away. Is this logic a Sth Australian quirk?

As mentioned, last year most of the guys stayed in the city area so the distances to courses north or south is much the same. Adelaide to Tanunda 74km, to Gawler 51km, to Links Lady Bay 78km, (not on the roster though), to Victor Harbor 83km, to RAGC 12km.

I understand where you are coming from with your query but that's kind of how things fell, Victor Harbor kind of picked itself once Kooyonga became over-subscribed/unnavailable; a couple of the guys from interstate had already put forward that they were going to play there due to it being Lagerlovers old stomping ground, so it kind of made sense to follow suit.

Originally I believe the plan with Tanunda was to play golf and have a wine tour or something as there were not that many intending to play on the Thursday - TC!?.

Sunday was always intended to be at RAGC, and for a change of venue one of our forum members teed it up for the Saturday game to be at Gawler.

Will try and make it a bit more sensible logistically next year :)

All comes down to time; most cellar doors shut @ 5PM so if we tee off early enough we might have time to sneak in one or two - otherwise it will just be golf which is fine for me personally.

Unfortunately there are not enough numbers to arrange an onsite wine tasting at the golf course.

For people staying in the city, Coopers Alehouse (in city) or Earl of Leicester (outer city) have the best schnitzels going around with many different toppings.

For convenience, The Links Hotel posted by someone before has the most toppings, but the schnitzels themselves don't compare in size or quality to the above places.
