I've always enjoyed Geoff Ogilvy's writing. Here's a nice piece of his from the US Golf Digest site:

Yep, topical issue at the moment and totally agree with his thoughts. They were discussing the same thing on the Euro Tour coverage last night. The Turkish Open course setup is a prime example of all that is bad with modern course protection thinking. They rightly pointed out that Lake Karrinyup had no thick rough and wide fairways, yet every hole required a lot of strategy in placing tee shots and layups. And missing fairways was still penal whilst still offering a chance if you were good enough.

Interesting article maybe he's the next deep thinking player after David Duval, I just hope his game doesn't go sour like DD's did.

Ogilvy comes across as intelligent, very respectful (and knowledgeable) about the history of the game (both course design and historically significant players), and isn't afraid of telling it like it is. It could be said that all of these things are rarities amongst his peers. There's been talk of Ogilvy being a future Commissioner of the US PGA Tour…he'd kill it, but I reckon he'd probably have more fun growing his course design firm Ogilvy Clayton Cocking Mead.

If you aren't reading them already, Ogilvy writes exclusive columns in every issue of Golf Australia (the best golf mag here, without a doubt) and they're always cracking reads. The way he talks about the Melbourne Sandbelt and growing up playing those courses and their architecture gives me (having not played golf in Melbourne yet) wet dreams. Mike Clayton also writes for Golf Australia - and he and Ogilvy are clearly like-minded golf minds. Awesome stuff:).

I remember reading about this at the time. Bit of an anomaly for Ogilvy…or at least of what we see/hear of Ogilvy in the media.

I have a former pro mate that used to know him quite well. Always said he was the most laid back, fun guy. Was surprised when I read that piece. Sounds like fame has got to his head a little bit.

He is also a true blue crow eater (South Australian) just like Scotty.

Don't wanna hear it otherwise ;)

I thought he was a Victorian? Even better bloke if he's from SA!!

I remember seeing an interview at one of the Aussie events in Melbourne where he said he always loved coming back home (to Victoria?) for a Pie and a VB.

Talbo: Well, his Australian base is Victoria - just like Scotty's is QLD.

But both were born and raised in S.A. Adam Scott's AFL team is the Adelaide Crows
