Well done Dave, you managed to be slightly less sucky than the rest of us.

Roy is under advisement that he must get some more comp rounds in to better reflect his true handicap...

Well done Daves, thoroughly deserved.

Hopefully this is not a Bob Charles moment where it takes us another 40 years to get a lefty major winner.

Thanks all. It wasn't a Bradbury, but I reckon I was on one knee for most of the day, and somehow managed to not fall over before the finish line. Congratulations and commiserations to Shazz and Damo, it was anybodies to take almost to the end.

It was 2 rounds of some good ball striking, mixed in with some absolute shockers. I got the wobbles bad for a while with the Driver in the 2nd round, but still somehow managed to hit 80% of fairways! And I had a Slut, a Shank and about 5 lipouts, including a full 360! A grand total of 3 points on the par 3s was also a "highlight!" But I somehow managed to have only 1 wipe (the shank hole) and make at least a point on every other hole to slowly accumulate points to the end.

If you had asked me during the round, I would have said I was having no luck at all. Multiple lipouts will do that! But on reflection, it was the first hole on each nine that got me across the line. When we got to the turn, a quick tally told us that Shazz, Jim and myself were tied for the lead. Hole 10 is index one, and "this hole is reputed to be the hardest par 4 in Australia" according to the course guide!? (I only read that after the fact!). I would argue strongly against on the hardest label, but it would be in with a show as the most deceptive off the tee. I hit my drive down what we thought was the middle and moving gently left. When we got to where my ball should have been, nothing?? A run back along the fairway and we found it almost in the water, on the right!!?? From there I managed to make par (almost birdie) and Jim wiped the hole after 2 visits to the water, 3 point swing right there!

But when I think about it, the really moment of the day for my round was ironically on the first, and I got the rub of the green and much more! Off the tee I have hit an ugly duck hook that was heading hard OOB down the right. The ball somehow hit a tree and came back with interest to end up, as Shazz gleefully told me, behind the Ladies! A Slut! From there I somehow managed to make par for a 3 pointer to start!

Many thanks to the organisers, and to my playing partners on the 2 days, Peter-rs, Jimandr and Jeff Blaz. I had a great time and got to see, and play, some interesting golf at times!

Is it still in Jim's pocket??

jimandr

Is it still in Jim's pocket??

I did take a card home, and after reading that post I had to check. But no, mine is a blank card from the Pines (so I can record and remember my successive triples for all time).

I fed AP's card in myself and pressed the confirm button, so everything appeared OK. My score went in (and gave me an extra shot for my next round from the blues at home).

In regard to the game, a score update after 9 holes revealed that Damo had taken himself out of contention (we haven't heard the gory details though), and Daves, Shazza and myself were tied. I immediately took myself out of contention by hitting my only drive right all day, then hitting what appeared to be a perfect recovery layup only to find it in the water 30m right of where it landed.

Oh well, at least I won the gross, which we all know is the only important prize to win.
