I was trying to explain to my mate who's just got a X2hot driver what effect adjusting the loft had on the face angle.

I always thought that adjusting the loft upwards OPENED the face... apparently this is incorrect.
Can anyone confirm?

Correct. Increase loft, close face angle. Decrease loft, open face angle.

Alright, well that clears it up. Thanks mate.

It does your head in at first, but it makes sense once you think it through. We are historically used to opening the face to increase loft, but the adaptor only changes the head position and alignment as it relates to the shaft. In doing so it reverses the relationship between loft and face angle in that context. Move the shaft position as well and you change both again.

It is hard to explain. If you "set" the club closed, it aims left, right? :)

Whilst it is aiming left, the loft is the same as normal. So, now square the face to the target, you now see more loft. ;)

Now, set it open, sit the club square, and there is now less loft.

Simple really

Sure, makes sense. Thanks for the education.
unfortunately, we were going for a very low launch with a a face angle to offset his massive slice.
Not going to happen with this set up.
He'll have to fix his swing instead.
Cheers!

Get a left handed tip & it should reverse it

the more he stuffs around with changing loft angles the worse his drives are going to get long term - IMO I would change is stance over the loft - tell him to move his left foot forward a good couple of inches - that should help offset the 'over the top'.
