Am I the only golfer who hates promoting brands?
Do golfers not see the issues with displaying brands on their golf gear as a negative? IMHO I branding in golf is too far over the top.

I am looking for a golf bag without all the BS, No markings, OEM Brands, ect at all in 8.5 inch. I have searched high and low and online but haven’t seen anything that comes close. In Japan they are called caddy bags or sometimes they got called mini staff bags here. If someone has a JDM caddy let me know please or see's something without all the crap I would be appreciated!

You're an angry man at times.

Do you really think your mates or other golfers look at you and say "wow, he's using that bag, I wanna be like him!!!"

;) Just kidding, if you want a non branded go to a Chinese fake website and ask them to sell you one without a logo.

There is too much branding. I find it bizarre that these brands not only want you to pay for their stuff, but use you as a walking billboard, as well. Hats, in particular, irk me.

I favour NX-G bags for that reason. The logo is only 10cmx3cm. (If you get a black bag with red or blue trim, it is hardly noticable.)

I use the stand bags, which are approx. the size you are after, with the added convenience of keeping the clubs off the ground / staff bag not toppling over.

Difficult to find anything about them on the internet.

Eagles and Birdies? or are you objecting to them having their brand on the bag as well?

Stretching my memory here, so don't torch me on the detail.

But a few years ago when i went into TGP in Oakleigh, they had some custom golf bags? Someone might be able to add to this....

Only have a few staff bags like these left. I would do it but that would only encourage me to drink a dozen cans a round again! Thinking that the 8.5 inch would be ok to only store 6 cans !

Definitely. Love going through the golf stores in Japan, some of the stuff is amazing. I think PTP sold some JDM bags (http://www.ozgolf.net/showthread.php/30142) on here ages ago.

Just took delivery of a Tourstage stand bag bought second hand off the evil bay, bit dirty and dusty and has a Woodlands member tag in a pocket, bit of a clean and I will be happy to use it.

For a former pro like CT, I agree that this is an issue.

I would in fact assume that he was being sponsored and was endorsing that brand.

Many elite amateurs actually get supplied, don't they?

Bag branding I don't mind, and I think many people would have got the bag as a bundled deal with the clubs they are using. My Adams branded bag contains Adams clubs. But I would feel a bit strange if I had no Adams clubs in an Adams bag.

Caps are a different story. I'm with AP on that one. Unless you are a fanboy with an entire Titliest bag and using a Titty ball, you shouldn't be wearing the cap unless you are being paid for it.

I might make an exception for those who have been to the fitting centre, even if they have subsequently abandoned the clubs. At least those people would have a story to tell about wearing the hat.

When you're using pro shop credit on a cap, you don't have much choice.

So by your logic, I couldn't go to a surf shop and buy a Rip Curl hat to wear instead because I am not a pro surfer?

It is kinda weird wearing licensed gear, and effectively paying to be a billboard for them. Happens with lots of things (like V8 Supercars etc) as well as golf.

It's fashion in general, happens with any branded form of clothing.

Look at jeans. Denim is denim, but throw a little red tab at the back and all of a sudden you have an iconic brand that people will pay 10x over for.

With V8 supercars, you can say that you are supporting a team in a way, similar to wearing a guernsey. It didn't stop me from ripping my playing partner that was wearing a hideous Red Bull hat this past Saturday.

I don't like designs on golf caps in general so I just use stuff non golf specific like Under Armour, Hurley etc. I don't see anything wrong with people wearing golf brands. I do like some of the golf bags that Cobra does although only one club I use is a Cobra, I have no issues with getting a Cobra bag just because of the design and colour scheme.I do find it slightly peculiar with all the fluoro and bright colors that some golfers wear. My opinion is that I would never choose fluoro if I'm going to out and about, so what makes it less of an eyesore on a golf course? That's just me though, and I'm sure I'm about to open a can of worms.. :)

Interesting thread in regards to branding.

I've honestly never given a flying f*** what people carry their clubs in or what hat they're wearing but I must admit I copped an absolute hammering from a few guys (in my group and the group behind and I know them mostly well) because of my bag, bag contents and hat which is a Titty hat (that I only bought because I forgot to bring one with me around 6 months ago). What I found strange though was the fact that there were 3 others that had big brand staff bags and hats (TM & Mizzy) that didn't get a mention, yet I copped it sweet as soon as I got there! I've seriously been thinking about going for an unbranded bag even though there's nothing wrong with my current one. Also had one wanker from the group behind come off of the green he was putting on to watch me tee off 3 times!! I wasn't impressed.....

I always have a good chuckle when I see a group of middle aged gentleman with beer bellies hanging off their white belts wearing Ricky Fowler and John Daly outfits. Again, to each their own, and if you like it, go for it! :)

you could always go something like this.

Garth Cusick is the importer.
basically, you pick a basic bag, then you choose everything else, colours, embroidery etc.

They sponser ISG Vic OOM. Win it, get a free personalised bag

My Srixon bag will never have srixons in them, but gee I like the bag. At the time I bought it because it was cheap. Bonus is that if I ever use my x2 hot pro driver, the cally headcover will match the srixon bag ;)

Don't even have to be elite there's a kid at my club off like 2 or 3 that has a titleist sponsorship. Gets all new pants, shirts, hats, shoes every six months, something like 6 dozen prov1s every 3 months and new clubs. In his dads shed there's a meter stack of prov1s as he can't use them up.

How the hell does he get that? Do you mean like a kid who could possibly be a pro one day, or just a good amateur Saturday warrior?

Unsure how he scored it, He's a junior, like 17 or something. He's aiming to be a pro I guess? But needs to put in a hell of a lot of work. I think it had something to do with Australia junior ranking but still you think there would be 100 junior Australian golfers off around scratch or better..

Surfing (and skateboarding) is a completely different world. While I don't frequent that world, I live in a surfing mecca town, and every surfer, without exception, wears the gear. I don't know whether they are loyal to one brand or whether they mix and match, though.

I find it amusing going to inland towns and seeing people in surf gear, particularly older guys who clearly do not surf.

This is an interesting topic. I'm thinking of a few other sports where caps are worn, and what their participants do.

Cricketers don't even have caps from their manufacturers, I don't think hockey players do either.

Fisho's seem to wear caps and hats and shirts from manufacturers, though. I wonder if they are loyal to one brand or not.

Most team sports have caps for the team.

I guess the whole loyalty thing is a valid argument, hence the motorsport fans always wear the gear. But not many golfers are loyal to that degree.

Pick the colours, put any pitcha on them that you want, and pay 400 bills give or take.

Titliest throw a crap load of gear at promising kids, and its within the amateur status rules. Other manufacturers may also do it to.

Agree with the sentiments here - I don't like logos everywhere on my gear either. Have a look at www.themackenziegolfbagcompany.com they hand make their bags in the USA. The all leather ones are big $$$ but the Ballistic Walker is somewhat reasonable. Not as reasonable now as a few years ago - I was lucky and bought mine when the exchange rate was $1.10.

I have this JDM OnOff brand bag (http://www.tourspecgolf.com/onoff-2013-caddy-bag-ob013). The branding is very subtle and can only be seen very close up. Classy bag in the flesh!

Possible option for u.

When I was playing pro golf there was a stage when no one was sponsoring me, so I was running a plain black staff bag with no logos on it.

There was no way I was going to provide free endorsment without anything coming my way. My Dad is using the bag now otherwise you could have had it CT, I can certainly understand the logic!

If anyone is opposite and wants a stand bag with no branding.

Look into the Sun Mountain Caddie Stand bag. You get the performance and looks of the brand without the big logo on the side. Comes in green, navy or black from memory.

A good mate of mine owns Custom Gold Bags Australia (cgba) I have bought 3 bags through him with my business logo's on them. They have all been top quality and draw a lot of attention which is great for my business. Try his online design your own bag tool
