Is there some sort of rule that you have to pick roughies?? I just thought Phil's confidence would be sky high after the US Open and he has all of the shot needed, Tiger has been getting better and Ernie was in good form last week?

Got a problem with that!!!!

I've been in a couple of those pot bunkers and I can totally understand how Ernie failed to get out the first time. They are often only 10-15 feet across and VERY steep. His ball was on the downslope, against the edge, which wouldn't have helped his cause.

Did you notice how many times the camera crews lost the ball in the air?? They'd simply cut back to a view of the fairway..... no ball to be seen. I had to laugh when they started carrying on about Paul Casey and how strong he is. They must have talked about it for 5 minutes. They even said he had "cane-cutters" arms! Wonder how these people would describe Parry or Goosen then???

Jarro
16th July 2004, 06:36 AM
I agree Brisvegas, i lost count of the times they couldn't track the ball in the air  even when it did find the greens the cameraman took a while to find the ball ..... very ordinary :x

I didn't envy Ernie that bunker shot at all .... it's just that you get used to seeing him hit amazing recovery shots 99.9% of the time 8)

I am so enjoying watching the Open. I love the fact that even the top players struggle with the course. To see them stuff up shots makes me feel better about my own game.
We had friends over for dinner last night - all golfers - and we had a lovely little evening drinking red wine in fron of the open fire watching golf. Ah sheer bliss.

so far, I've been really bored with the coverage...

it's a fantastic course - abs love the holes and how the players are hitting all kinds of shots in...abs love it!!!

but my biggest pet peeve with BOpen coverage is the tracking of the ball...it's an abs disgrace!!!

watched most of the coverage last night...very interesting!!!
I would never have picked Els to choke first!!!
He's defn not swinging it was smoothly as he was when he was making his charge at the Masters... :?

Anyway, kudos to Todd WHO for being boring thruout the round and playoff - he did what he had to do!!! :D

Interesting points noted during the telecast, Todd was 500-1 before the Open, and he's forth on WorldWideWins (5) since January 2003 behind Els, Vj and Woods...

And not bad for someone who bought a Ping BeCu B60 putter from a secondhand barrel 12 years ago, and been using it ever since!!!

man that Todd Hamilton has nerves of steel :o

kept his cool really well while the Big Easy put him under the pump.

Like Mau said earlier, i was surprised to see Ernie crack first, particularly as it was on a par 3 that he had played so well in regulation play.

One pulled 4 iron cost him the Open for sure. But he also had that putt on 18 in regulation play for the win also...but couldn't do it :(

great finish, glad i stayed up to watch the whole thing ... even though i'm knackered now :smt015

I think we will see more of Todd Hamilton, Ernie gave it his best shot, but I think the up and down round just got to him too much... :?

He's contended at every major this year, and done well (Except with his 80 at the US, but that was just the course more than anything) he will get a lot more chances to win another, probably in about a months time at the PGA? 8)

McMw
19th July 2004, 12:10 PM
actually, I thought Ernie didn't putt particularly well this Open...

he missed a lot in R3 which would have given him a huge lead, and he did miss a few earlier on at the start of R4...

if anything, his putting let him down this week...
okay - he did make the bomb on 16 and the nice one on 17, but a little too late I thought...

but can't really say much about his BOMBs off the tee!!!
he only put it into the crapper twice????

not bloody good I would have thought...considering that Els had a 10-15footer for a birdie, and he was 15-20 yds off the green, with the pin cut back another 30 paces...

I hate watching delayed replays. I stayed awake last night till 1pm just after the chip in madness.
Then i got home about 8pm tonight to catch the last hour of the replay. Started with the aweseome walk up the 18th so of course it was obvious there was going to be a playoff, and then I knew it would end at the 4th.

Same thing happend in 99 at Carnoustie, with VdV on the 18th tee with 2 hrs left in the delayed telecast. I just knew something bad was gunna happen so again the suspense and entertainment is not there.

Sod it. next time i am gunna stay awake all night and enjoy it.
