After another successful monthly get-together yesterday, and assuming we all survived the mosquitoes at South Lakes, I thought I'd create a placeholder for next month's event.

As I won, I get to choose, but I'm thinking the last 2 months we've been way south, so I'm thinking of somewhere central or northern for October. My initial thoughts were Tea Tree Gully, Tanunda, or even going to visit Hatchman at Kapunda if he'll have us!

But first things first, what date is best for everyone? I was thinking Sunday 19th?

When I know who can make it, I can try and book something...

Thanks!

Edit: This is now booked for 12th Oct 9.00am & 9.05am at Tanunda Pines where thecollective can show us around his home course! :)

All of October is out for me. I have monthly medal first week than 4 weeks in row of club champs.
I have a snow flakes chance in hell of getting a special dispensation from the Minister to fit in a Sunday game as well.

She's not the smartest, but not as dumb as another mates. For years his Mrs thought golf took around 7 hours and was played at night as we used to get back to his place at 8-8:30pm. We were always last to leave, lock the bar, set the alarm and lock the Club House. Ahh the good old days.

Tanunda is my home track and IMO the best course up this way; I can arrange the tee times.

It has a 50% green fee deal with The Vines - I should be able to introduce 3 others at a members guest fee ($35)

Let me know if keen

9AM will be fine on a Sunday - pretty quiet at Tanunda.

Let me cross check the situation with the greens as coring is normally around that time of year.

thecollective

Right!

9:00AM & 9:05AM are locked in; Sunday 12th October, Tanunda Pines (opposite the Novotel)

Greens will not be cored until 1st week of November so they should be nice and firm by October with the Sun coming out

Best way to get there from the South is via the Northern Expressway, then turn onto Sturt Hwy (A20)

turn right @ Gomersal road - a clear sign will state heading to Tanunda - Watch your speed on this road (strictly 90km) as there are often hiding radars (Highballin that means you!)

Then take the dirt road right turn (shortcut) @ Golflinks Road. Note: if it is soaking wet - do not take the connecting Lehmann Rd first right turn, take the second otherwise you WILL get bogged. You will see what I mean when you view it in person OR on google maps. The dirt road is well sealed and ok from the second turn onwards, if you are super sensitive about your prized vehicle (not getting scratched etc.) you can go round (avoiding the dirt road) - although you are adding 10 minutes to your journey. Otherwise you can take the scenic route via Gawler through Lyndoch road (off Murray street).

From there will be an obvious left turn into the course; its simply a matter of following the boundary road of the golf course around to the opening gate.

Tanunda has a good quality driving range and putting green to warm up on; so don't feel like you need to stop elsewhere for a warmup.

Sundays are surprisingly quiet - although on this day I just noticed Glynde Golf Club have about 6 groups teeing off 1 hour after us.

Bring your putting and chipping game to this course otherwise it will be a slog to score well. Many of the greens are two tiered and have subtle slopes.

See you there

Coalesce; I would say fairways are quite generous but you have to contend with deep whispy rough in the open rough areas and lots of pine trees. Are your drivers the same loft or flex? this might be your problem if your switching between lofts and flex.

The course could do with a good chainsaw session - particularly on the 5th

TC

coalesce
8th October 2014, 07:52 PM
Same flex, similar loft. Different shaped face.

My Cleveland Classic XL has a deep face, and my usual "miss" is hitting the top of the face, which doesn't happen so much with this. The new driver is a more conventional face, so this miss is happening more often. Also the new driver is longer - I think that is causing me to be a bit out at setup - I need to have more of a play to work out what is going on! :)

There is one steep climb up to the 10th green but that's about it. Course gets a bit undulating but probably equal level to the Vines like Hatch pointed out

Its worth the climb for the tee shot on 11

And yes the soil at TP takes the word sandbelt to another level

Barossa has a nice setting and some good holes #1 is my pick out of the bunch, but in terms of GCA and layout it is not in the same league as Tanunda or even Gawler for that matter.
