You need to average over 20km a day each from now on to get to the 1000km target, unless the 148.5k progress total is wrong. You better get moving!

I was talking about my personal target of 500km. I have 19 days to do 433kms so its a little over 20km a day or 22.79km to be exact, but yes I/we need to get moving!!!!

How long does the ride take as opposed to driving?

I didn't think I could do it. I think a flat 15-20kms would be a good daily commute. I could only do this 3 times a week with a rest day in between.

Time wise about the same, around 1hour 15mins driving or getting the train door to door

Sounds like u need to do a warm up 4-5kms before u hit the hills!!! Get the blood flowing in the legs first.

Hi,

I have entered a team in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Our team is called OzGolfers and I am inviting you to join us to ride throughout October.

How does Great Cycle Challenge work? You set yourself a ride target and pedal it down over the month, logging your kilometres via a free app which is linked to your personal rider page.

It's a great excuse to get on your bike!

And it's all for a great cause, to fight kids' cancer.

To join our team, check out our team page below:

https://greatcyclechallenge.com.au/Teams/OzGolfers/h

I hope you can join OzGolfers and pedal with us this October to end childhood cancer.

Have a great day!

Go Rachelle.

At least, I know she won't be tempted to spend the donation on a kayak paddle or a TM three wood. :)

Great effort, great cause and an innovative way to raise funds.

I am up to 289 of my hoped 500km. Feeling pretty flat and tired at the moment as its been strong headwinds going home each day this week.

But after tomorrow I will be over 60% of the way to my goal distance, and more.importantly, I have smashed my $750 fundraising target!

I'm struggling for time a little as I'm trying to fit in practicing for club champs, that's why I'm only doing 500km. Did the same thing last year and had my best ever finish in champs!!!

For those u have donated to so far, thank you very much. For those who haven't and those who want to donate again, today is perfect time to Kick Cancer's Butt Day, where ALL DONATIONS WILL BE MATCHED by their sponsors - so it's the best time to sponsor my challenge to help these kids.

Hi Guys

I am doing this again this year, this year it cuts a little deeper with my cousin losing her 13yo son Connor to Leukaemia in April. This year I am doing the ride for him. Anyone that can donate please do so, I also understand there are lots of charities asking for donations nowadays and can respect if people cant donate.

I signed up earlier in the month as well. More than happy to join up for an OZgolf team too.

My initial aim is a rather optimistic 500km (a mix of both actual and stationary bike) but I'll re-evaluate that as September progresses. I'd probably be happy with half of that.

Yep, I know it's October, but I've started looking at my training patterns for September to prepare myself.

I think the amount of time I spend on my bike next month will indicate if 500km is a pipe dream or not.

If you can commit to riding every day - especially work and home if its 20k return, its not that difficult. Find a slightly longer way to ride home, and go for a 2 hour ride early on the weekends and you can easily rack up the kms. Riding in the morning is so much easier - less wind, less traffic.

I found last year I was leaving at 6am, and doing an hour and a half ride before work - occasionally up to 40kms. Even on days I couldn't be assed getting up that early, I would do a lap of the local suburb before riding to work, which added 4km a day. It all adds up.

Rides before work will probably be the go. It's only about 12-13km return to work and I don't have showers at work so that's probably not going to be doable.

2 hour ride on the weekends will be easy though. The Olympic regatta centre's a 10km return trip, plus a few 5km laps around the main lake...plus a few other rides I've done this year that are an easy 25-30km. Plenty of options for me to explore. However club champs runs during October so rides will be a Sunday job.

I found rides to and from work was the way to go. For u KJ maybe doing 1-1.5hour ride home would be the go.

This. Cruise into work, then do a decent ride home.

October is prime magpie month here though. I was so sick of getting swooped and hit on the head

Trip to Aldi this morning to grab a pair each of the knicks and shorts in their catalogue, plus a fresh pair of gloves.

Just a week to go before it gets serious. I've adjusted the target to 300km and will kick it off with a 30-40km trundle around the main lake at the Regatta Centre.

I was so sick of getting swooped and hit on the head

Finally got another clobber this morning. Luckily hit me in the helmet, but banged into me so hard it had to flop onto the ground and have a rest after hitting me, rather than continuing on like usual.

Scared like shit of the ****ers. Hit under my eye when I was a kid and just freaked of them now.

Had an email drop in my inbox this morning about the Spring Cycle on 16 October...and 20% off the rego fee for Cycle Challenge participants.

The 50km option looks like a nice way to take a fair chunk out of the 300km goal...

I'm also planning a few M7 cycleway rides so will need to get a few tips from you fellas who ride/have ridden it regularly.

Pretty pumped for it all...except for the magpie factor.

39km today...just sticking to bike paths and other suburban parts of Penrith. Regatta centre was being used for a marathon so I couldn't do laps.

250m in I came across a red belly sunning itself on the path ahead of me. About 5km in I had my first magpie swoop me. Good mix of headwind, tailwind, crosswind, and a good schnitty roll for lunch at Penrith's foremost Vietnamese bakery.

Not sure if I'll get out tomorrow or Monday. If I do it might be a stationary spin at the gym on Mon night and get myself 20-25% of my way to the 300km target. Maybe I can get to 500!

Almost that time of year again!

My goal is less than last year (180km), but I'm combining the bike ride with MyMarathon (running 42km during October and raising money for the Heart Foundation) and possibly fitting in 3.8km worth of swimming to make the ironman triathlon. So there'll be plenty of activity either way.

Have been thinking about picking up a 1-2 year old roadie with decent running gear instead of doing it all on the mounation bike, but I'll sort that out during September.

Run - 42.2k - 4hr
Swim - 3.8k - 2hr
