OK Gents,

Thoughts on non-golf activities over the weekend.

A get together Saturday night in or near town? For simplicity a venue for dinner where you pay for your own food as you order rather than splitting bills later is probably a good idea. This setup is fairly common in Adelaide so we won't be limited for choice.
Could either eat somewhere and then move on to bar(s)/pubs etc later or combine the two.
For a golfing theme The Tap Inn, 5 mins from the city, maybe. I haven't eaten there for a few years and after going downhill I believe it has changed hands and improved, anyone been recently? Location not as convenient as right in the city though.

After golf Sunday?

Welcome your suggestions one and all.

Tap Inn has schnitzel on the menu and $6 pints.

It's also only 7 minutes away.

Sold.

I doubt this will get much interest, but I'll throw it out there.

The Adelaide 36ers basketball team are playing at home on the Friday night vs Melbourne United. I have a season ticket, but if anyone would be interested in coming along, it should be pretty easy to get tickets....

Are the 36ers in the A-league now?

coalesce

Melbourne Tigers changed their name to United for this season, which is a crap name because it sounds like a soccer team.

(I did check for A-League games but there isn't one in Adelaide that weekend, also there's no state cricket)

I misread the fixtures - we are actually playing Perth Wildcats, which is a repeat of last year's grand final which Perth won.

Tip off is 7.30 so yeah you wouldn't get there for the start.

I have booked a table provisioned for up to 15 people. Dining date/time is Saturday 22/11 @ 7:30PM, Earl of Aberdeen aka Coopers Ale House, 316 Pulteney St Adelaide (booking contact is 'Tori')

The Hotel has confirmed that its ok to confirm an exact number on the day - less people is fine and doesn't attract any 'penalty' that you get at other places.

Being 7:30PM should mean you will have enough time to travel back from Lady Bay to the city after the round.

Here we go. The Standard Schnit Scoring System
It works very well

Meat & cooking - tenderness, moistness and lack of undesirable inclusions such as veins or gristle should be looked at here. Max score 3
Sauce/topping - consistency and flavour. Max score 3
Crumb - looking for crunch, size and non-seperation Max score 1
Accompaniments (chips, rabbit food) - in the case of rabbit food, did it add to the meal or just make up space. For chips, only award points if something special like seasoning. Max score 1
Plating - Easy one here. Was the schnit on the chips or not? Max score 1 point
Value - Its not the size that matters, its how much you charge me to put it in my mouth (no homo). An Aussie Nash $5 schnit doesn't deserve to lose marks for being small. Only award full marks if it is serious good value, otherwise this should be half. Max score 1 point
Bonus point - Was there something about the venue that added or detracted from the overall experience? Note that this can't be used to make a 10 into an 11 but can take a 0 to a -1. Min score -1 Max score 1.

jimandr
22nd November 2014, 11:27 PM
I'm not the best Schnitzel judge as I wimped out and had the 300g option rather than the 600 everyone else had. But I finished mine easily while a few others were feeling the pressure. They all got through it to their credit. So they all got a pass mark.

Only chips on the side and actually under but the chips were good. My Kilpatrick sauce was a good combo. Venue was a bit noisy but so were we. I give it 7 out of 10.

Did you use the SSSS above? If not try it and see if you get the same score, it works very well.

Schnitzel report number 2 from the Earl of Leicester. Bigger but probably not as good as The Ale House. I couldn't finish my medium Monica Lewinsky and Peppas didn't get through his Bullocks Balls. Benno ate all of his Tiger Woods but took all his energy to do so. The ambiance was good though. Only about 10 people in the pub.

Overall maybe just a 7 with the extra point for the names of the varieties.
