Anybody here a member?

They have a good offer at present and am seriously considering joining.

Keen to hear from any other members out there in regards to tee time availability etc.

Rick, my uncle is a member out there.
Good course, great practice facilties.
Gets bloody hot in summer!
Very small fields on saturdays (plus women are thrown in the same comp time, i think so takes a little longer...)
Wed get a little bit busier as its open day.

Yeh it would be an awesome track to play week in week out but just concerned about tee time availability. Will give the pro shop a buzz tomorrow.

You'll have no issue getting tee times sat or Sunday (or any other day)
Every time I've played there it's like a ghost town....

I was put off by the buggy rule and most of the comp are in carts

Yep, cause it's a **** of a walk.... :)

Steve

But I have never seen it crowded, and it is usually in good nick. The last time I played in a comp there the two groups in front of us called us through as they where stopping for lunch in the restaurant thing.

rick3003
25th August 2014, 09:45 PM
So carts are compulsory?

So carts are compulsory?
No, but you can't bring your own trolley.

You must hire a pull or electic trolley from the pro-shop. (They even made us hire trolleys for a pennant semi-final, a couple of years back.)

rick3003

Wtf is that all about...

Really hire a buggy? No wonder it's deserted.

Unless it's free for members of course

3oneday
26th August 2014, 08:59 AM

more like 45mins but not too bad against the traffic..... but there is normally a 14 car accident

Great value, against the other courses in the area. The only thing that has put me off membership is the fact that it is not really a walking course.

I love that par 3 where you are hitting over the dam (I think??) into a tiny, slopey green. Lost about half a dozen balls on that hole
There's a couple of fairly uninspiring holes after that one though which drag it down a bit, but still pretty good price for a top 100 course.

You should tee up a group in a month or so Rick, tell them you want to have a good look around before joining ;)

Been a member there for 6 months L and havent played a single comp. I like to play early on a Sunday morning and can never get a spot.

They only have a 1 tee start and let the social clubs off before members.... cant get why they do that....

Captain Nemo

$$$$$
Its an obligation/contract they have with local council i think.....
I never have a problem getting times on sundays, sometimes i just rock up (there are always cancellations).

rick3003

Getting a spot is usually not an issue but they dont have any early spots...

i played there many years ago (and i was a terrible golfer then, not much better now). Great course, beware the crows stealing your balls.

I would have considered joining up but it ages away from Balgowlah Heights and I like to be a bit closer for a dirty 4-6 holes during DST.

PS that price is awesome.

Try 1 tee start because the 10th is the furthest point on the golf course and then add social players taking times from first daylight through to 7:30 and then more recently a 2nd mob around 8:30-9:30! Limits the Sunday comp times that's for sure!! :(

Yep. Due to members complaining about lack of tee times on a Sunday the Club had the hide to send out a revision to our cancellation policy so that any weekend cancellations had to be done before 5pm on Thursday night otherwise you have to pay the comp fee. The members slammed them over it with the real reason being the amount of social clubs they are letting in.... and it was quickly withdrawn. But they continue to book inthe social groups as obviously they are bringing in more money. They wonder why such a high member turn over though?!

Ended up joining a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier..

The course is immaculate and the people are great. Awesome having a full size range and hitting a bucket before the round...

Just need lower bounce wedges now, super tight lies around the greens

Steve

How do you find the small-ish greens at Mac Links Rick? I've no problem with them (or small greens in general), but I took a mate from Liverpool there last time I was at Mac Links and he was going on about how small the greens are. Have you put any in the gorge on #11 yet? Last time I was there I plugged in the mud behind the back right bunker. Do they give members free range balls mate? I seem to remember them saying that when they were pushing memberships about a year ago. A mate and I were considering playing ML on Monday public holiday, but think we're going to play Lynwood instead...

Range balls are free for members...
Such good value.... just need to find somebody to join so I have a regular playing partner..

I think Macquarie Links has one of the worst holes ever designed, the 12th. What do you think of that one Rick? I do like ML though. It has always been in good condition when I've played it and is an enjoyable layout. (:

rick3003
30th September 2014, 09:02 PM
The 12th is an odd hole for sure... Easy hole to get home in two but too risky.... Easy 3 shot hole
