Hard / Soft stepping shafts.
Just returned from a golf store to find out they don’t import DG S400 or X200 anymore WTF?
Shitted up as DGS400 was the standard a decade ago. Soft stepped x200 for a low flight and hardstepped s400 for a higher flight. Shop boy said” you wouldn’t know” then shop boy got told~

s300 and s200 are basically the same thing. Whilst s400/x100 are similar. It shits me that we just accept this from distributors. So they just import basic crap being s300 for us to pay top dollar for!

Anyway

Got some C tapers coming to experiment with anyone else got any hard/soft stepping success stories?

You have the potential to be an angry man :)

I'm not good enough to tell the difference. I have tried, even soft stepped C Tapers with what I thought were good results. But when I tried them again not soft stepped, they felt exactly the same.

Soft stepped KBS X for me are the ducks nuts

I would just give the Ctapers a go straight install they run pretty stiff, go up from there

At the risk of being the minister for the obvious, you are aware that S400's are just S300's that failed the weight sorting test? Identical shafts, 400's are just a couple of grams heavier.

Cool chart Spanner!
Currently using X100 soft stepped once and they get the weak flight on poor swings. Will have a whack at standard first. Cheers

Im a fan of the C Taper. Ive got 2 sets of MP60s, identical set ups except for the flex on the C Tapers (half a flex difference through Hs/Ss). With the stiffer set I can probably hit the ball lower into the wind (no surprises there) but otherwise there isnt a lot of difference in feel or flight (I can hook the cr@p out of both on a bad swing and cant consistently tell the difference without looking at the label). Not a lot of people like them. A lot of mates who have hit them say they have no feel. To me a good shot feels like squeezing a zit. A couple of years ago i was helping out on a school camp that had a big wet field out the back. I had DG, PX and CT in 6 irons, a bucket of decent balls and a few days with not a lot else to do. Comapred to x100 my impression is that x C taper fly higher and spin less. For certain they carry a bit further. My order of preference for feel is C Taper, PX, DG. DG guys dont seem to like the feel of C Tapers (and vice versa). Weak shots with C Taper are no better than weak shots with DG though!

I use soft stepped ctaper x flex and quite like them. Very tight dispersion.

Ball should just pop off the face (of the club)

Big difference between s200 and s400. The overall shaft weight is a key element of stiffness. And they are not identical.

Letter sent to COO, Griffon Corp (Ames true temper) re this issue.

C taper X seem a little heavy JC? How's the flight on the long irons?
