I'm booked in on the 19th. Am not looking forward to it at all  I stuffed up and watched a youtube vid of the procedure  Not recommended if you're contemplating it.

Who's had it done? What's the recovery like? Any tips?

I haven't (obviously) but my plasterer was saying a few weeks ago that when he had his done he was back at work the next day with pretty much no pain at all.

I think these days they are pretty good. Still don't blame you for being nervous (I sure would be) but everything will be fine.

This is about the 15th thread on the topic. What is it about blokes, that they have to consult with their mates before they get knackered.

The trickiest part is getting the misses to fill that little tube a month or so later.

Best part about it was the Doc told me that I had to "empty out" as much as possible the month after to ensure to get all the little swimmers out. ;)

Now they were a prick of a thing. I had 4 out at once under a general and was screwed up for a couple of weeks.

If the snip isn't easier than that, I'm never having it.

Having a general is a good idea. I had a local and I pulled the doctor up twice as he started sawing at them before they got numb. He must have been in a hurry to make a tee time or something.

I still remember my cop mate having it, then having to chase a crim down a day or so later. He got out of the car, took two running step, then looked at his mate and said 'you get him'.

Clikchics bugged me for years for this, but she has always had to take the pill (one of the bloody expensive versions not covered by pbs which sux when you have a concession card) as part of her health management so I've just thought bugger that! Now she's got some 5 year device - so I'm still smiles. Saying all that, I not all smiles because she's sick and needs this stuff regardless of whether I get snipped or not, but yeah I'm a little smiles about it.

I had a local, it was mildly nauseating feeling the tugging sensations as he worked, felt like he was unspooling a garden hose but recovery was pretty easy. Bit sore for a few days, going up and down stairs had to be taken slower, but otherwise all good. Driving a manual car didn't give me any problems.

I figured if my wife can push out 2 kids with no pain relief (crazy woman), getting a little snip is the least I can do. We've rolled our biological dice and don't want any little "surprises" like 2 of my mates have had. Both had planned to get it done "one day" and then oops, guess what honey, we're pregnant again. No thanks!

Tip - if you're running late for the dropoff of said sample, don't jog to the clinic with the jar in your pocket. It tends to make things froth up :D

Had mine done under general. My Mrs told the doctor that would be for the best as I may react to sharp instruments heading down that way.

Worst part was that I knew both the nurses who had a good old laugh.

Some people ok straight away. I had mine done on a Thursday and took Friday off and the weekend. Kept the old frozen peas on them.

I did dive into a pool about 10 days later and that really hurt when the pearls hit the water.

I had mine done under a local. The rummaging/tugging thing was a bit disconcerting, but the worst was the realisation of what that burning smell is when it hits. "Oh right, that's my balls I can smell being scorched." Then going to take a slash and wondering how he managed to sneak in 2 purple baseballs without me looking.

I now have an ugly scar on an otherwise pristine scrotum.

It is not the surgery that hurts, it is the swelling afterwards. Whatever you do after to minimise that is what matters.

But, yeah, there's just some places I don't wanna be awake for and get a wift of the burning smell!

Side story, when Jaster was getting his done years ago, turned up, got all prepped and shaved down etc and then at the last minute they postponed it for another day.

I think that initial appointment is called the "BMW Payment Appointment." Took me all of 5 minutes, "you're not fat, this'll be easy. See you next week, $200 thanks."

Glad I didn't go the general, but being awake for the tugging/pulling/unreeling sensations and the *BEEP!* *sizzle* was mildly nauseating. The specialist at least had a TV on the theatre wall to distract patients with, but a doco on crocodiles wasn't quite enough to take my mind off things completely.

I don't care about the cost either. Weigh that up against the cost of an 'accident' (for want of a better word) for 20 years.

Secondly, I have a bit of a phobia of needles. I have seen needles put in all manner of places, between toes, big needles thumped into the chest above the heart with the force of a punch and every other thing you can imagine. Doesn't worry me in the slightest.
I just can't see a needle approaching me. I can get one fine enough. Just can't watch.

So the thought of all that happening down there and being conscious IS TOO MUCH TO BEAR :lol:

Considering what our wives go through to produce children, it's pretty soft if you can't have a snip as your contribution to avoid "surprises."

That said, reasons against that I've heard include what if we want to have more kids in future/if we break up and my new wife wants kids, what if I'm that 1 in a million who can't get it up afterwards, I don't want any man touching my junk, they will feel like less of a man if they can't impregnate someone.

Thats not correct., You can shag as much as you like, except until you get a sperm count of 0% you cant assume you are sterile.

My Dr told me to shoot 20 times before going for the test to confirm no little swimmers..... He also told me one guy came back the day after the operation for the test! BTW, Try getting the chop and the snip (38yr old) in the same Op... That was an experience I never want to go through again. :(

If there are any stairs in your home/work area, take them slowly. Went back to work fairly quickly, feeling mostly okay, then forgot and jogged up some stairs. Well, started to, then got abruptly reminded to slow down.

You're a brave man Craig. Circumcised at 38! We all know women prefer that but that's crazy stuff!!

7hrs post op and I haven't had any discomfort whatsoever yet. Bit surprised and happy with that. Doesn't even feel like I've had anything done. Just took 2 panadeine forte as a preventative measure.

The doc told me to give him a sample in three months. He wants 20-30 shots first. If I'm really nice to the mrs I may knock that over in a week or two:)
(In my dreams)
The only time you get that sort of action is at the start of a relationship, when you're trying for a kid, or are 19. I'm neither of the above.

For those who may be interested in getting the snip in the future, the 24hr post op report.
I have not experienced any discomfort whatsoever. No pain, no tugging, no twinges, no throbbing aches, or dull pains. No swelling. Nothing.
Last night before bed I took two 50ml Tramal's. Had a great sleep.
Will take one panadeine forte with brekky as a preventative.
Wearing snug Bonds boxer shorts. Maybe that helps by keeping everything secure.

I'm hoping it's not the calm before the storm.

It's up to me. As soon as I feel the epoxy has set and holds the shaft, head, and ferrule securely together I'll give it a whirl.
Looking at mid next week at the earliest. Don't want to loosen the connections if not set properly and lose confidence in the club for another week.

Matt your approach of tight undies is a wise one, in fact tighter the better.
I made the mistake of thinking some loose boxers was the go, found out very soon after the op that this was a poor choice.
When I got home from hospital i swiftly removed the boxers and replaced them with 2 pairs of undies......agh much better

matty
20th June 2014, 09:47 AM
I'm thinking tight undies are the key, Chappy.

The only thing I'm feeling post op is a mild sore throat from the thing they put down it so you can breathe while under.

I came out of the general having a woman scream at me, 'MATT, WAKE UP. WAKE UP, MATT.' Thought I was at home.

Saw another guy who was under next to me. When I woke up again I asked where the other guy was. Got told I saw him in recovery and he's in a different room. Funny stuff being moved about , onto different beds, into different rooms, having no idea what's going on, then trying to piece it all together.

You're not cutting your nuts OFF thus removing testosterone in the body. Just making sure the swimmers can't get out to make any little surprise babies. No reason for bitch tits to result, unless it's just the coincidental weight gain of a ~35+ year old who has the snip around the age they get lazy and stack on the kilos so wife thinks they're related?

2.5 day post op update.
Balls pretty much all blue and slightly larger than their usual impressive size.
Looks like the bruising has spread a lot over the last 24hrs.
Had a fairly busy day with the eldest sons footy early in the morning where I spent a good hour or so walking around at times with a two year old on my shoulders or lifting him up fairly often. Then another hour or so on my feet after a long drive to a breeders house to inspect our new pet. Then dropped the mrs and youngest at home before heading to Allianz Stadium to watch the Wallabies. Usual frequent out of the seat cheering and carrying the five year old on my shoulders to wave at the players on the fence during the lap of honour.
No painkillers all day.
Could feel a very slight dull ache when I got home about 7pm but it's not really pain.
Popped a panadeine forte.
So all in all it's going well and I spent most of the day not worried I was going to knock anything or even noticing 'amiss' down there.

How far in advance do you typically need to book for the procedure ?Depends on your Dr. Mine was uncomfortably quick from the initial appointment to execution, about three weeks. I was hoping to have a few months to get my head around it! The snip is a pretty quick Op so assume they punch through quite a few each operation day.....

matty

The GP will refer you to a specialist.
You wouldn't want a GP fumbling around with a needle and scalpel down there.
You have the 10 min $200 BMW appointment with the specialist then he'll book you in a few weeks later.

Happy to wait for results but why would general over local be faster recovery ?Actually, I just read back in the thread and saw that you went to a specialist, when I had assumed a GP (hack job) because you got a local. I saw a specialist, but don't recall the option of a local, not that I want to be conscious while someone does that to me.

You probably will pull up fine then.

Seriously, I was genuinely surprised. The only thing I felt was the needle and even that was moderate. Based on my experience if the procedure itself I really would recommend to future snipees that general is unnecessary.
