Hi everybody, came across this forum as I was searching for golf balls to buy.

I am an amateur looking to buy golf balls and am not sure what to buy.

I have been offered a range of used callaway balls for 35c each or brand new Dunlop DDH Distance balls for 38c each.

Which of the two would you take?

Any other suggestions on what I should buy?

Would you sggest buyinf the Dunlops due to them all being the same ball so I am able to get used to them or would you recommend the used callaways?

Any help would be apprecated.

Thanks for your reply, do you mind sharing why? I personally prefer the them I thin due to them being new but in terms of ball quality, why the dunlops?

You NEVER buy range balls. EVER!

Any of the entry balls will do. DDH are a good beginner ball. 35 cents is a bargain.

go fot it.

Any ball will do for now until you get to a level that you can "control" the ball do work in your favor ie low spin, high spin, Firm, soft multilayer or rock ! there are many choices but really it wouldn't matter if it was a pro v or a noodle.

By range balls we mean ex driving range balls that are usually worn out, even new range balls are crap as they are usually designed not to go far

Have fun and enjoy your golf and try to avoid humping the goat!

Ps they still make DDH ?

Apparently so. I just think that if I buy the same ball that I will be able to get used to the way it moves and stuff like that, or am I just going too far in saying that haha. I think I might get the DDH's.

Mmmmmmm the ball don't move by itself, it's how you hit it that makes it move, you need to learn how hit it to make it perform and sometimes they do as you intend.

The DDH would be a good ball for you

If your in Vic portsea is a great place to find a heap of different brands

I think any cheap or 2nd hand golf balls will do you at this stage....

i think the biggest issue you face is when you are losing them. You will want to keep the cost down as much as possible as you might lose quite a few on most hard holes with water/gulleys/deep rough.

aarong

I lose about 3-4 per 18 holes I play, I try not to but not being the best shot doesnt help

I believe so to, in saying that, 38c a ball I believe is cheap, would you be buying 2nd hand callaways or brand new dunlops for only a 3c difference?

great deal, after losing all 144 and hopefully finding a few decent/modern style balls as well in the process will give you a good idea of what type of ball you like

I think so also. I do seem to like callaways but are abit to expensive for my current experience

Saying callaway a is fairly general mate they make plenty of different balls that should act differently . As the guys have said get something cheap That's not gonna be a worry to lose. Plus if your in the deep stuff a lot you will probably find more than you loose

You can work them both ways, the dimples also straighten the ball flight so you rarely will miss fairways. Get stuck in, can't go wrong.

Mate, they are only range quality balls and would not be worth playing a round with.
If you want quality used balls, check out Squizzys & get a few different dozen to see what you like.

Cheers

I will buy 2 lots of 18 and see how I go

Why stop at 144. Buy a thousand and sell any extras you dont need on here.

Ddh's, B51s and Hot Dots are prized collectors items.

When I first started golf, my 2 concerns were price (under $20 for 15 balls) and the balls had a nice thin straight logo (no homi) so I can line up my putts. I think my ball of choice was Spalding plus.

Point is just buy something cheap until u learn to play.

Same here, but Spalding TruFlite from KMart.

Sped up play, as I could identify my ball easily, rather than Norm, Harry and Jim deciding who owned which Pinnacle with the same number.
