Hows this one :D
I was bragging at work, about a hole in one I had on Sunday the 25th April 2004....as you would if you have a hole in one :D

Back to the story

This guy said he's only ever had a plugged hole in one  I asked him what a plugged hole in one was :? he said, you know where they have moved the hole from and plugged the hole up

Never had one ... 2 very close:
- one rainy day in 1980 (scarred for life) I hit the flag on the short Par 3 in Romsey and the ball dropped straight down and stopped about 6" from the hole
- Corporate day 120m Par 3 hit a Pitching Wedge that hit 6" short of hole bounced past and spun back to 6" past the hole. I missed out on the SAAB 900 Convertible that was the prize and got a bottle of Moet for nearest the pin (what a rip-off)

I have been lucky enough to have four (all in comp) since 2000. Three were during pennant competitions and one during the Saturday competition. The ace at the 14th at RQ in 2003, during a stiff westerly to a left pin was memorable. I hit it on a line outside the left bunker and the wind did the rest. Darryl Wilkins, the opposition, called it in as it was drifting in to the green.

The 13th at Pacific was also a good one. I was three down after 12 and pretty well fed up. I was playing a member from Brisbane GC (who was Japaneze) who was having a field day on the greens. He was being driven around the course by his wife. They would drive up to my ball and then drive up to the green for a look, which pissed me off. At 13 he hit it to 7ft, I looked at my caddy and said "I am ####ing sick of this". His reply was " Ask his missus if she ####s in the mens toilets". That started me giggling and changed my frame of mind.

Mike Clayton listed the 14th at RQ as one of his favourite short holes in Australia. Unfortunately it is no longer.

I have had 1 hole in one, and I currently have a hole in my sock :?

On saturday both feet slipped when I was playing my 3 wood second shot and I hit it so far off the toe that it looked like a shank. Lost ball and nearly a face plant as well. On sunday, second shot, right foot slipped, same club and I hit such a pull hook it hit the trees about 100m ahead of me and disappeared.

I think I need to replace those little nubs under my shoes that used to be soft spikes.

Have never had one but two weeks ago went just about as close as you can get without holing .... was officially marked on the NTP card as 3cm. Was interesting having a birdie putt I could only have missed if I hit it too hard :)

Fortunately this was a Sunday comp and the golden shot hole rather than a standard NTP.

So close but still have never done it.

Got the 'fats' real bad yesterday and tried fixing it with a little swing change, low and behold got the shanks!! Hit no less than 6 hozel rockets although to be fair, 2 actually came off the toe but had the same shank result!!

Stood up on the 13th (at Windsor in Sydney) with another swing thought (was playing like a busted so wasn't gona hurt was it??), and finally made contact with the friggin ball......

Ball went a little to the right then started coming back with a tiny little draw, the perfect little shot really. Got a awesome bounce of the front mound near the bunker......

"Do it c#nt, do it" was the call I heard myself say, and BOOM, it did it!! Straight in the Hole.....

Happy days!!

2 out of my 3 playing partners were a well into their 80's, so the celebrations were a little subdued but they managed to get their hands up high enough for a couple of high 5's each.......

I haven't been to too many Golf Clubs that don't have a hole in one honour board or shield. Must be in comp for name to go on.

goughy
9th January 2014, 12:55 PM
Of course. A quick search says Tiger Woods has 18 holes in one. Is this correct or not? I'm just trying to ascertain whether sms is stating fact or opinion? It comes across as though he's stating fact. If opinion then it's up to the individual to decide whether his opinion matters or not. That's all.

Here fishy, fishy, fishy...

Ron Burgundy
9th January 2014, 01:08 PM
It's called a hole-in-one, not a hole-in-one-in-a-comp.

Granted if it's not in a comp your name won't be on an honour board, but who plays golf just to get their name on a dusty board in the corner of a club? Regardless of the context, getting the ball from the tee to the hole in one stroke is a hole-in-one and should be congratulated.

Ron Burgundy
9th January 2014, 01:11 PM
28026Here fishy, fishy, fishy...True. But taking the bait is fun. And on a related note, obviously the size of the fish you catch only counts if it's in an official angling competition.

So that's the most legitimate answer yet.

I should clarify, I have no issue with anyones opinion regardless of what it is. As I have no issue with sms believing anyone currently using an anchored putter is cheating. That's his opinion. I'm just interested in a clarification of whether it is legitimate or not? I do think a posting would be more correct by starting with 'in my opinion...', but that would be less fishing then.

My mate's dad just missed a hole-in-one on a par 4 yesterday. Hit the pin and stopped a foot away.

ps. Because he is 87 and now 52.4kg (don't forget the .4), we get him to hit off where our best drive ends up. In this case, it was 75m from the pin.

Hahaha, nice KJ... Well done. :)

Just for the record, it was in a comp yea. I don't play social golf (or practise for that matter) so everything I do on a golf course counts, including hazel rockets, and shots of the toe that behave like hazel rockets......
It won't get my name on the board, cause I'm not a member of that club anymore. But the bastards never even put it in the result section of today's paper. That I'm dirty about!! ;)

But I do love this discussion whether it counts or not... It's gold, pure gold...

It won't get my name on the board, cause I'm not a member of that club anymore.

If it was in a comp, being a member shouldn't matter. I have my name on 2 boards I am not a member at! ;)

I agree 100% (only because I wouldn't have one to my name otherwise ).

http://www.usga.org/rulesfaq/rules_answer.asp?FAQidx=148&Rule=100

That's nice, but unfortunately meaningless as Australia is under the jurisdiction of the R&A, not USGA. :p

I'll congratulate him if it was in a comp, otherwise it isn't a hole in one. If it isn't a Hole in one, what is it? Hole in 2, 3 shots? Birdie? Par?He took 1 shot on the hole so it's a hole in one. Cannot see how it can be anything else.

Sadly, I have never made a Par in my life as I only play social golf in the 2 years I've played. Well, technically I've gone over 100 rounds without making a bogey since they don't count as it wasn't in a comp.

Paging Benno_r!

You rang??

Course: Hervey Bay - open comp
Hole: 12th - 119m par 3
Club: Nike Covert Forged 9i
Ball: Nike RZN Black - Volt.

Knew today was going to be a tough round after flushing it at the range (always a bad sign). Started Wipe/1/1/1. Managed to pick up a few more points, with a bird at 8, and a pars at the tough 9th and 11th.

Pin located center green, which is blocked out with a large bunker. Flushed a 9i that never looked like missing. Disappeared behind the pot, and I had a good feeling it was close. As I got closer to the green, couldn't see the ball - figured it was in or over the back. Walked straight to the hole to see my little volt ball peaking back out at me.

Pretty stoked for my first HIO - even happier it was a flush shot not a flukey chunk.

Nah, enough par rounds get shot on Ozgolf - nothing special there. HIO are hard to get around here, and don't think anyone is a 3x champ.

Ok...encouraged to do this by benno...not that I need much encouragement...and I can see he was the last guy in here to post...I had my first hole in one on Saturday.

Course: Growling Frog - stroke comp
Hole: 5th - 137m par 3
Club: TM RBZ 5 hybrid
Ball: Srixon AD333

Played the previous week for the first time with the group I was in...3 Frog members, I usually bring a group of my own mates, who on this day were in the group behind us.

Playing off 19 (136 slope), started par, bogey, bogey, bogey...and the 4th hole was a scramble with a 20 footer after hitting flush a tree on the corner near the green and bouncing back into the rough.

Pin located center green, which is wide but not deep, and protected by a large bunker to carry about 120. Flushed my 5h with a baby draw straight over the centre of the bunker. Landed about 6 feet short on line and rolled towards the hole. At this stage, I'm thinking...that's gonna be pretty close. It rolls to the pin...and then disappears. The guys in the group immediately react...2 of them had holed this one over the years...and say "that's in". I'm incredulous...I reckon it's behind the pin and that's why I can't see it. John, our 5 marker in the group, says he's got good eyes...it's in. At this point, the heart rate leaps to double its normal level. As I got closer to the green, couldn't see the ball - figured it was in or over the back. Walked to the back of the green first to make sure it wasn't there...and then to the hole to see my ball nestled comfortably at the bottom of the cup, behind the pin! It fell in backwards like a putt! Suffice to say...we all made some pretty significant noise.

I'm paraphrasing benno's post a bit here...totally stoked for my first HIO - even happier it was a flushed shot and not a scungey fluke topped or bounced off a tree...although I'd have taken it.

I turned to my group and said..."you see those blokes in the group behind us...they're mates of mine. Right about now, the conversation they're having will be something like...right, at the end of the round, straight to the car park...no talk, things on, gotta go..."

Head spun for a bit...3 jab double on the next hole...but managed to shoot a net 69 and win the comp. NTP, Eagles nest (also my first), comp win, members bonus, honour board. One of my mates took the ball and is making a trophy for me out of it...I suspect it will be something ridiculous...

As days go...it wasn't a bad one.

Thanks for reading.

Ok so par 3 4th playing 127m. Slightly elevated green meaning the ball could not be seen enter the hole. Got onto the ree with a 9 iron but went back to the bag after realising the wind behind me was significant. KJ sticks one to 6 foot and i jumped up and flushed one high and it carried on the wind. Cant be sure but a lack of pitch mark may even mean a slam dunk. Ben m and courty found it in the cup as kj and I were gasbagging behind!!
