I'm hoping some here can advise the best way to unblock drains. Last night after bathing the kids, msbluu noticed after pulling the plug in the bath, water was coming out of the other drains in the sink and shower. This morning the toilet is not flushing away.

What is the best way to unblock the drains.

Cheers

Yeah get a plumber in. Probably be about $200 for an hour but they should get it sorted.

I get tree roots sometimes blocking my drains but I use this tablet thing every few months to make sure they aren't growing in there. Once its blocked though it's plumber time with the electric eel...

You shouldn't touch or fiddle with your own pipes ;)

A basic smelly drain sure, but water coming out where it shouldn't is a bit more serious.

You seem to have two problems Bluu, your sewage (toilet) and your waste water drains should be quite separate.

They'd be the same pipes in NSW, especially in his 20yo house.

The waste water is probably just a build up of fats and hair (from soap, body oils etc). I have a cheap Drain Eel and a Plumber's Plunger in the workshop for easy to fix blockages. Toilet blockages tend to be more difficult to fix/clear.

Stormwater is separate. But shower and sinks should drain into the sewerage line. *

* I need to have a look under the house to be sure.

I know I can hear the washing machine drain at the sewer vent near the pool, and the pool backwash drains into the sewer (as it contains chemicals**).

** That's what the local Leb. said, when he was concreted and paved around my pool.

Then they got sent up here in the back of a white 2 tonne Hino. 'Hey, I won't charge you for the backfill.'

So the guys dug it up today and replaced some pipes and redid the drain pipe. There was one guy who was literally over his head in the hole, so it made me feel a little better when spending my $1200.
