I probably wouldn't even notice if it was $80.

being the carer of my mother and getting a carers pension and not being able to work, every dollar counts and i noticed rather quickly lol, well that size anyways. i figured the 10 and 1 dollars were just bank fees.

How do you know it was the Americans?

I guess you'll just have to win more at poker.

Is the bank looking after you? I would have thought that they could provide some protection.

How was it possible for someone to hack a bank account. I think its impossible Unless they were able to steal all your ID and use social engineering to convince the bank they were you.

The only way other way they can this is if the person themselves contributed to the hacking, like sucked in by phishing or trying to get free porno, then they only got themselves to blame.

I would also expect that a hacker would have cleaned out the account on day one rather than wait a month. They are not going to want to revisit the scene of a crime a month later.

My card got compromised during the Playstation mass hack a couple of years ago. They didn't start small though, I think they took something like $100, $300 and $500 over a couple of days, and I don't check my online account that often so didn't notice it until I logged in. Called the bank, they cancelled my card and issued a new one, refunded the money (can't remember how long it took, 2-3 weeks?) and all's been well since then.

My account didn't get locked out though.

That's not hacking your account though, thata just stealing credit card details, very common.

Yeh Credit Card fraud is dead easy to accomplish. Numbers are easy to obtain. Hell you have a camera on your phone, pretend your looking at something but take a photo as someone hands over their card...that will do for quite a lot of purchases. I was once shown how a guy did a google search and it pulled up a list of credit card numbers from people who had donated to a charity.

Hacking a bank account...would be harder. Just off a guess the most obvious.

- Poor security on the PC (this would include lack of good AV and installing dodge Nigerian type scam stuff)
- Leaving your login details to online banking on your mobile device that gets stolen.
- Someone obtains your login and guesses your password based on its the same password you use everywhere else and they have that list.

They would appear to me to be the most obvious.

I would also expect that a hacker would have cleaned out the account on day one rather than wait a month. they did, unfortunately each time the day after pension day.
