Your failure to grasp English is obviously an issue for the hillbillies.

Plus your inability to answer a simple question without being rude, particularly after such a grievous insult upon a member of the Union team, smacks of ill discipline and ignorance. No wonder you lost 6/5.

As for the question, not sure about thur, fri or mon, but on the Sat and Sunday, if everyone enters the comp at the Dunes and Portsea, it will be dependant on which comp tees are being used at Dunes (really hoping its not a black tee event) and blue tees at Portsea.

As for my ill discipline and ignorance, it is from dealing with the Union Scum from last year.
"We want this blah blah blah, thats not fair bleat, bleat, bleat, you're team is too good, whinge, whinge, whinge"

Good to see that you are keeping up the tradition

In all seriousness, IMO RM West is THE course that rewards great shots and punishes bad. You can get away with mediocre, but not all day long and you won't score well.

Can you do up a course guide for where Hocko is best to throw his clubs if he was to make the journey?

Bruce
16th January 2014, 06:34 PM
Course Guide for the Union.

1st: It gets easier the further left you go with the drive.

2nd: Hug the left with your drive and second shot.

3rd: Take driver and go centre right.

4th: Stay left all the way down again.

5th: You can miss this green anywhere. Up and downs are easy here.

6th: Don't take on any of the bunkers. If the pin is on the left then going straight at it is a risk free plan.

7th: Pin on the right is the easiest. Fire straight at it.

8th: Go as far right as you dare with the drive.

9th: Left hand side leaves the easiest shot in.

Be very afraid boys. :-PIn all seriousness, IMO RM West is THE course that rewards great shots and punishes bad. You can get away with mediocre, but not all day long and you won't score well. I would say that the beauty of RM is that it rewards good golf, bit doesn't punish bad. If you don't hit it where you wanted, there is still a fighting chance, you are always in the game - unless you miss the 6th long..

Bruce
16th January 2014, 07:18 PM
Even if you miss - you get another chance. Lost balls are rare. But the difficulty of the next shot is almost linearly related to how badly you missed the previous shot.

If you take on something difficult and pull it off - then you will be duly rewarded.

Moe Norman
16th January 2014, 08:28 PM
Without being dismissive or rude, there are many golfers who wouldn't know the difference between a difficult shot and an easier one at RM - they have no idea what they are looking at and just fire in the direction of the flag on the end of the stick.

WBennett
16th January 2014, 08:41 PM

Its not easy to know where under the hole is the first time you see a course...

Bruce
20th January 2014, 03:28 PM
Unless it rains a lot between now and then I think things are going to play the firmest and fastest you have ever seen.

I played over the road on Saturday and watched balls bounce 6 feet high after landing on the fairway. Balls landing on greens sounded like they were bouncing on a wooden table. Bring it on.

Also - if you can carry then that is the recommended action. RM are protective of their new fescue surrounds and so will probably have to push your buggy quite wide around the green instead of walking straight across with a bag on your back.

It looks like we will have at least one more heat wave to bake the ground even more.

Those used to Queensland conditions may want to get their putting ready by practicing on a lino floor. Find a large concreted space to practice your short game.

I actually thought this myself when I played it. It was into the breeze and I had no idea how far the carry was. I reckon I only just cleared it and looking back I thought "Where the **** do the shorter hitters play to?"

Simple answer, you'll have to hit it into the alleyway to the right of the pots. You don't want to be left.

Aiming for a specific area of the fairway just increases your chances of disappointment.

Or maybe you are trying to overcomplicate things. The landing area is blind but there is more room than you think to hit over and around.

"Me hit ball towards hole. Me hit ball big."

That's my usual strategy, except the me hit ball big part :)

It was a general discussion. Out of the holes that I looked at in Lefty's plan, it was the one that stood out as potentially not having a layup area, without making the hole too difficult.

It was all hypothetical anyway. I hit it 250m on the fly.

Thanks for the guide, Lefty and Jack. I only got around to looking at it in detail today and there's good stuff in there.

Happy to help, as much as it would be nice seeing the Union suffer not knowing where to go, the real reason people are playing is because it's ROYAL FRIKKIN MELBOURNE!!! and we all deserve to have SOME idea of where to hit it.

Another piece of advice: When you get to the 5th tee box, take moment to look around. You can see 8 holes from this point and none of them is cramped or imposing on the others. It's one of the great vistas in golf.
