shavey
24th January 2006, 11:15 PM
Guys, just wanted to guage some interest before I hit the boys up for some rates.

Probably looking at an early morning start if that's okay...

Let me know by Friday if your keen.

Please be advised that this is just a TEST until I get at least 16.

Moe Norman
24th January 2006, 11:21 PM
sounds ok, hate the course but I'll play it again!

it's not that it's hard, its that it is designed so poorly its basically a lottery.

AndyP
24th January 2006, 11:22 PM
I'm somewhere inbetween maybe and no.

ThomMoe, Wynnum Cup is Feb. This round is March.

shavey
24th January 2006, 11:23 PM
The Wynumn Cup is on 12th February per the post in 1st tee.

Please somebody tell me if this is wrong...

Nah-uh. I got in a minute before you.

I'm with you, MN. My results at the course are OK, but it just doesn't do anything for me.

Moe Norman
24th January 2006, 11:31 PM
to be honest my decision will be dependent on price, as for anything up around the $60+ mark I'd rather go play brooky for $75.

Where's Northlakes ?

Where's Northlakes ?
North of Brissy, but not as far as Pacific Harbour. Around the Redcliffe area. Probably about 30 min drive from the CBD.

Shavey what's the story ?

So far there's 5 confirmations and 6 interested. That's 11 ... 12 if you count cazandpaul as two.

Do you need 16 for this to be a goer ?

Hey I might be in for this one, it is all really dependant on what the docs say about my return to work after the op. We are planning on a holiday sometime before I go back full shift. Will more than likely be staying up on the Sunshine Coast (Caloundra) or Bribie Island.

Not as standard. I did come across a 'plug-in' that was similar (but with only the register option). When I become a bit more familiar with what we have now, and get all of the options set up how we want here, then I'll chase it up, as it was a good function.

Gaz, go to Maui. Rachelle & I were married there in '97, it is an awesome place. There are quite a few things to do there to;
Play golf @ Kahnipali
See sunrise at the top of Mt Haleakla
Ride a bike from the top of Mt Haleakla to waterline (about 50 miles with almost no pedalling)
Go Snorkling out at ? (cant remember the name of the reef but it is a volacanic crater off Maui)

3 quick questions;
1) Do we play off the match index or stroke index? (dumb question I know but, hey, this is my first time)
2) What happens if it's all square after 18? Does the whole course get closed down while the combatants play the extra holes?
3) Can't think of a 3rd question yet.

Mike

mike
17th February 2006, 03:19 PM
4) Is it buggies only at NL or can we walk?

AndyP
17th February 2006, 03:27 PM
1. Use the match index for your match against Gaz.
2. With Shavey playing with us, you may be able to organise playing an extra hole. If you are in one of the leading groups, you might have the option of driving back down the 9th or 18th and teeing off with one of our other groups for your play-off hole. Otherwise the whole match might need to be replayed.
3. Looks like you thought of one.
4. Can't say I've seen people walking there. Carts are included in the price that Shavey listed. There is a bit of green to tee distance on some of the holes.

Moe Norman
17th February 2006, 04:05 PM

I'll leave it to Shavey, but I like the idea of having non-matchplay players in the matchplay group, so all four players in the group are focussed on the one match. More chance of getting a nice wrap-up of the match afterwards then.

Thank yous to Shavey for organising the day, and the burgers. Shavey's challenging for the burger king award.
To Addamsmith for the prizes (and for the CDs)
To Gazgolf, Mike and Chris for being good value round the course as a playing group. Great having Mike and Chris down all the way from Mareeba, and hope we'll see you again.
To all who came for making the day what it was.

Highlights (for me)

Birdie on 15

30 putts for the round (if I count my pick up hole as 2 putts). Thought it was 28 but miscounted. Dang those greens are slick!

Course was better than Moe Norman had me believing. I'd go again, but need to save up for it.

Lowlights

Picking up on 13th for 4 without getting over the bridge! (The bridge near the tee)

My drive on 9th landing on the cart path and disappearing into the distance (never to be seen again).

Hitting Mike's ball on 6th. 8-( (At least I hit it well.)

The Round-up landscaping on the 11th green.

I have a ground down Clevland lobby he can use for the day which is now here at my place. I'll try and get it back to asap, I had a look at it, this thing is as long as my 8 iron!

Good day guys, shame it was ruined by a few no shows.....

my putting woes continued and Stoney gave me a touch up in our social matchplay, purely through solid par golf as I hit GIR after GIR only to 3 or 4 putt.

Choppa, the biggest burgular going around!

To my playing partners Shavey & Nudgee, thanks guys, the golf was crap but the company made up for it :-D

Top effort from Davemason for making the trip once again also to Mike & Chris for coming down from Mareeba.

Congrats to all the matchplay winners and to Choppa for winning the day :smt038

Good to meet a few new people on the day as well ..... Mike, you're not a bad bloke for a Dragons supporter:smt002 and AddamSmith, thanks for the pro-swings disc mate, i was actually hoping to get a free lesson from you on the range before we hit off

I'd like to congratulate oscar for beating me 2 up in our matchplay .... neither of us really set the house on fire with our play, but we had a pretty close match all the same.. it was great fun. Also thanks to my other playing partners on the day .. BrisVegas and perci:smt030 .... Vegas was bombing his driver miles as usual, and checking up his chip shots on a dime (even when he didn't want to :smt002 ) Perci might very well have played a lot better if he didn't drink 2 cans of beer on every hole :smt044

Northlakes was at her usual self with tricky greens and unforgiving fairways ..... i don't care what anyone says, i like the place :smt023

thanks again to Shavey as well for organising the day ... great effort again mate..... and see you all again at the next big day out :smt080

Had a great day thanks Shavey mate keep them coming

As Jarro said I had an 8 hour round trip but it was worth it. Had a nice drive down pleasant drive around the course and played some good and bad golf and a safe drive back to Bundy

Thanks to my playing partners AndyP and Choppa. Congrats to Choppa for that 41pts win .

Good to see some old faces and some new ones this group just keeps getting bigger and bigger

And thanks to AddamSmith for the swings I can see why the pros can hit the ball a ton and I can't there is some big differences in swing when you compare the two

See you all at the next big day

Choppa
12th March 2006, 01:32 PM
Thanks for organising the day for us all Shavey, good job.

Thanks also to AndyP and Dave for the company. Travelling down from Bundy then back again shows some serious dedication. Sorry yesterday wasn't more enjoyable Dave :(.

Burgler.....who me :-s. Actually yes I do feel a bit like that, but North Lakes is virtually my home course now, I play it a least twice a month so I should be starting to play some good golf there :smt002. Geez it was great to get back to those greens after the disgrace that was Gailes. I couldn't really get the speed right all day, I must have had 40 putts, but at least missing the hole was my fault.

Found out last night from my mate why it was soooo slow there yesterday. Some really inconsiderate, selfish course "management" on behalf of the North Lakes management! :x

Just to keep you all posted, Mrs BW overheard some folk this morning regards organising a charity game at North Lakes for a charity called World Hope Australia. This is the group that Mrs BW has gone over with to South Africa twice (and will be again this year), working with AIDS sufferers and the children of AIDS sufferers.

Here's World Hope Australia's website if you want to have a look at what else they do. http://www.worldhope.org.au/

Thanks for the day all. I enjoyed it. Shame it was so damn slow.

Thanks for organising, Shavey. Burger was nice (once all the healthy stuff was taken out).

Nice to meet a few more OZgolfers, thanks for making the effort to come to the game.

Davemason and I played as bad as each other , with a nice run of wipes between us. It was good to see Choppa play well around his 'home' course though. He was very solid, and could have been better if he didn't give away a couple of putts in the first couple of holes.

Pretty happy to nab a pin for the day. It was one of the few that I flushed.

Moe Norman
13th March 2006, 12:13 PM

Did everyone miss that fairway or something?
I found the fairway via a friendly tree in the left scrub.

I had plenty of good luck during my round actually, but it didn't help me in the slightest.

Moe Norman
13th March 2006, 12:25 PM

I thought they were quite rediculous, and would be mighty ****ed off if I hit one of them.

AndyP
13th March 2006, 12:28 PM
Certainly doesn't add anything to the course. And they didn't match the sprinkler distances.

I also noticed that they have done away with the pin sheets, and gone with coloured flags now.

Speaking of hiting them, what was that call John made when I hit my tee shot on 17 Moe?

I thought they detracted from the "natural" feel of the course.

I did find however that they did help me focus on the middle of the fairway and I did drive it nice a straight.

I had no problem with the yardages, but it was a strange yardage book.

Moe Norman
13th March 2006, 02:28 PM
G69, I'm not a sandbelt lover, I just like nice golf courses, wherever they may be.

I've lost all my feel these days so I need the yardages to be reasonably accurate

I knew I was gone on the first hole when my own son started slagging me. What chance did I have? Well done Gaz, you gave me a real golfing lesson.

Mark, I felt so guilty when you hit my ball. I shouldn't have said anything. Things were tough enough without that happening.

Don't worry about it Mike, I'm not. I was dirty on myself at the time but them's the rules.
