View Full Version : Higher spin driver shaft

Just got the Adams Super S in yesterday, and took it for it's first hit. Didn't care for the stock shaft at all (being 46" long!), but I also tried an AD-DI 7s @ 44.5, and this thing is straight and forgiving! But it is also short - it seems like I am not getting enough spin - the ball just drops out of the sky!

Any recommendations for a "spinny" shaft, that would launch similar to an AD-DI? Don't want a counter balanced Axivcore, as it is hard enough to get swingweight with this light head.

Thinking maybe a speeder 7.0, or a Fubuki Alpha?

Cheers,
Ben

AD-DJ would do the trick, someone here has my old one

Benno, firstly make doubly sure it's actually too little and not too much spin. the S is a higher spin head.

Also very good point about too much spin that might be why it is so easy to control

Yeah I thought about too much spin, but I was hitting into the wind, and they were just dropping hard, ran hard once they landed. Was weird, used to "hang time". I'll play my first round with it Sunday with real balls, see how it goes...

Yeah get a few more hits in Benno, sounds interesting. Did you do anything for the SW at 44.5*?

It was D2 at 46, but is was a 48g shaft or sonething like that. The AD was C7 at 44.5, but used a 4g tip weight, and golfworks tungsten squares for D3. One of yhem fell of and its D1 now. Light, but forces me to calm down, so that itself was a good result. I might keep like is if it finds the short stuff all day, regardless of length...

Too much spin me thinks.

I am not convinced - whatever the opposite of ballooning is, that's what it was doing. Might have to go buy and buy a trackman and find out, right? :)

If the ball is falling out of the sky and running, I can't see it ballooning and having too much spin?

When I ballon a drive, it lands straight down and sometimes jumps backwards.

That's right, it definitely wasn't ballooning, probably get 180m carry, but roll out to 220-230m (on firm ground). Had it set to 11.5deg but trajectory was about normal for me (lowish), with no climb you'd associate with excessive spin.

If it's no good for me after the weekend, I'll grab a ladies flex shaft and give it to the Mrs...

Could try a diamana redboard

I thought it was the other way around or am I reading the above quote wrong.
Less spin = more control (less dispersion)
More spin = less control (more dispersion, ball goes wider left/right or balloons upwards)

I think they mean backspin Hatchman - the same reason why your wedges don't slice as much as your driver.

More backspin = more control

Sidespin on the other hand, more = less control

Sounds like the same talk about the Nunchuk shaft (need more loft to get it air borne as spin is what keeps the ball in the air)

Yep a fine line getting a shaft to launch high enough but not excessive spin both back and side. This is just another thing that makes this game great!!

A good off topic for discussion.
What is the bigger driving force for back spin v side spin. Loft of the club or swing path?

Finally got it out in the wild today using NXT tour s. Great Driver setup. Way better than the R1 I had. Not as good as the Nike, but very good feel, nice forgiveness, flight was a little low. Going to chuck an F3 motore just to see what a little more spin achieves.

Where did you get the F3 from Benno? I am chasing an F1.

benno_r

Yeah some good kit - the Speedline can't beat the Covert, but it's solid enough for my working away kit.

The new Tight Lies 4W is well entrenched in the main bag.

It went well. No good in the wind though, balloon city. In the calm though had a really nice flight, maybe 10/15 behind the covert/kiyoshi, but great feel and dispersion.

Windy days will be the covert and black tie combo...

Yeah mate, probably another 18-24months or so I reckon. Normally playing sporters at Calliope every Sunday, but keen to play wherever.

Cheers,
Ben
