I'm considering doing this. I only carry about 10-12 clubs and can do so confortably in a sunday bag. It's lighter and more convenient, I don't play too much in the rain so no probs there, but have never seen it done in a comp round....

Couple of the blokes at my club do it, one is a massive guy from the Cook Islands and it looks funny as hell, but I'm not going to tell him.

I used to carry for years but these days sit the carry bag on the buggy.

Carried one last week on a tough hilly course and it was good, easier than a buggy in some ways

Is it like white boots in football??? Back in the day you had to know how to play to pull off wearing white boots!

I've used a carry bag for as long as I can remember, it was only a few years ago after my car accident that I started using a buggy and even then I used my carry bag.

I do all the time. The only annoying thing is resting it on the ground when it is damp. Everyone always says something about it though "couldn't you afford a real bag" etc. Think of it as character building.

Just for clarity we are talking about bags with no legs, rest it on the ground

Mike Clayton used on at the Senior PGA. Looked very retro to say the least. Then again, Richmond is more or less pancake flat so not as if it'd be a hassle.

I'd give it a go if I was playing 10-12 clubs and had a bag of that type for sure.

I use a Titleist pencil bag when on the road trip south with 14 clubs comfortably. Have also used it plenty of times at pennant at tracks that don't have many hire buggies.

They're fine, but not much chop in the wet (no umbrella loop).

Mizuno has spot for umbrella and is somewhat waterproof with a hood, well its water resistant anyway. it just doesnt have much room for more than 11 clubs with my mallet putter and super stroke grip but Ill give it a go.

Does it look odd for Sunday bags to be used with a cart? Or did you guys get mixed up with a stand bag? Was considering getting a Sunday bag as a spare but wondered how it actually sits in a cart if it's not rigid.

They sit terrible on a cart. You need to put the strap through the handle of the bag or they just fall down to the grips.

Okay, so for the full time Sunday bag users what is your bag of choice?

navierStoked

Titleist. It has an umbrella loop and you can get a waterproof hood that has a towel lining

You use a standbag.

The sunday bag is like the one on Bagger Vance. Only holds ten clubs and six balls. Silly idea. Akin to buying a Smart car.

Go the standbag. The legs make it so much easier, to lift and to access things. Without legs, you'll be getting dew/dirt on your bag, then on your clothes, then on your car seat. The weather can change in 4 hours on the course, so you'll find the extra room handy in the standbag handy for a jacket, jumper, raincover, etc. (or if you get a lift to the course).

I use a standbag exclusively now (80% of the time on my trolley, 15% cart, 3% hire trolley and 2% carry), as I got annoyed having to swap clubs around, from a cartbag to a standbag, if I was going to the range or a quick nine holes or travelling.

ps. I'm not retarded. I push my trolley.

What Stand bag do you use Dotty?

Dotty's does not have a T in it.

NXG. Not sure what model, but it was $125 at Thornleigh Golf Range (who still have one in charcoal/blue).

A little heavier than the OEM branded bags, but a lot tougher. (I used one off-and-on for 3 years, and only replaced it because of boredom and the white looked dirty. I still see a lot of the Morgan Stanley embroidered NXG bags around, that were given to starters of a very big charity day 3 years ago.)

The current 7-hole pattern suits me for trolley use, but I don't know how it goes with 'club chatter' when carrying around the course.

If they made courses solely with 130-170m par 3s, then you would be right.

Virge's selling a Mizzy stand bag. If it's a Twister (where you can unclip the side pockets fron the main body of the bag), get it. It's close enough to a Sunday bag, but still rigid and has the legs.

I have a Ping Latitude V2 stand bag, I use that exclusively, and have done for 2 years with no issues. Both carrying and on a buggy.

Two options for true 'Sunday' bags.

1. Mackenzie Walker. Renowned, leather, expensive. http://www.themackenziegolfbagcompany.com/

2 (http://www.themackenziegolfbagcompany.com/). Jones Golf Bag. New versions of the original bag. Non-leather and less expensive than 1. http://www.jonesgolfbags.com/

Be interested to try one. Especially on those casual afternoons when you hit 9 by yourself.

Get a proper stand bag, and if it's your only bag get a waterproof one.
