I was horrified when i heard this story, when another golfer saw me lick my golf ball when cleaning it - I've never done it again.

He said one of the other members had a sore throat for ages, one of his golf mates was a Doctor, so he showed him and said better come into the clinic for a proper check.

The diagnosis went something like this (remember these guys are mates);

Doctor: you throats full of shit.
Mate: yeah oh know that you idiot thats why i am coughing all the time
Doctor; no i mean your throats full of shit. Thats Shit, poo - human Faeces, y'know - shit. This stuff got into your mouth and its breeding with infection.

Thats what licking golf balls does to you (when course is watered with effluent)
