I've been playing socially for a couple years now and a few in my group want to get official handicaps and are thinking of signing up for RAVC golf memberships. I know that to hand in cards they need to be signed by someone who currently has a handicap/golflink number but if there's only 1 in our group of 4 who has can he sign the other 3 players cards?

The question obviously related to handicap cards, and the short answer is the easy one, but I've seen this question arise in comp rounds, and it is amazing how passionate people get about scorecards and scorecard etiquette.

If a players withdraws before the end of the round, the best solution is simply to give the card being marked to another player. But sometimes people don't agree with this, and insist on the original marker signing the card before they go, putting notes on the card, and various other complicated solutions.

Once upon a time it was considered fairly important, and I've still struck people who insist that any alterations should be initialled, etc. But in these modern days of computer scoring systems it doesn't really matter any more. But some people think it does matter.

I can't agree with the player going signing it when he won't be any part of the rest of the round. Giving it to another player as you say is surely the go.

Original marker signs and the person who finishes marking also signs.

Jim, this is easily explained in the rule book.. both Markers must sign the card!

And there is no requirement to initial mistakes, AFAIK that has never been a requirment.

Both signing makes even more sense, as opposed to one or the other. Every hole would be witnessed and accounted for.

Both have to sign, that is the rule. Whether it makes sense or not is moot.

P.s. mike, don't you dare say a word!
