Funny you should say that.

In the two big stats Johnson averages 54 balls to get a wicket, Anderson averages 58.8.

Johnson averages 30.11 runs per wicket vs Andersons 30.35.

They both have 10 wickets in a match twice despite Anderson playing 36 more Tests. Johnsons about to add his third you'd think. Anderson has a marginally better 5 wicket haul ratio.

Is Anderson slightly overrated? I haven't looked deeply into it but there's a lot of talk he came of age late and from 2010 on has been a markedly better bowler. Regardless averaging 30 over a career period is going to keep him well below the top shelf of all time.

Johnson's best is far better, his worst is far worse.

The other anomaly in the Johnson career is that he started like a house on fire, then went shit for 2 years and is now on fire again.

Anderson was shit for ages to begin with, then had a reasonable 4 year burst and now on the wane again. Which is a more normal career. Eg. young and learning, then peak, then age catches up.

Johnson was/is just a bit of a headcase.

Fair call Moe. I think he was shit for longer than most at the start, plenty burst onto the scene quite successful straight away or not far after. Anderson's best can be pretty good too, far more skilful than Mitch's but also far less menacing. Very effective tho.

Johnson has ripped through the best sides in the world multiple times.

Anderson has never done anything remotely like what Johnson has done this series, or like what Johnson did vs SA home and away in 2008/9.

Johnson came into this series with 200+ wickets at an average of 30. Even with the crap he dished up for so long, that record is comparable with Anderson and Lee's career records. However, Johnson removes more top order players.

I suspect at the end of this series, he will have about 230 wickets at 28!

I hope you're right, Perth's next!
