as i was downhilling the arboetum one fine morning this week at 5.30 am i was thinking about all the people I've spruiked Ozgolf.net to...and it occured to me we could spread the love in a special easy to carry/write on with golf pencils way.

This week i went to my friends at Worldwide Printing in Milton and had a chat about my idea.

I'd like to explore, with Ozgolf.net's members permission the possibility of having a batch of business cards done up, so we can easily and quickly promote the sight to like-minded inviduals we meet on-course.

i know myself i have told many people i've run into on golf courses about our site, but wanted a higher impact lasting way of letting them know.

So, down to what i chose for the purpose.

1. Card will be blank on the back and rough finish so it can easily be written on with pencil ie. Jarro meets a nice new guy at nudgee who's got some gear we want to eventually buy (:D) and hands over the nice clean Ozgolf.com matt-front colour card and writes his user name on the back with his golf pencil.

easy as.

I explored their deals and there a few specials they have on that fit the bill perfectly.

chatting with andrew, i setlled on their current special on matt front, plain back cards.

These are a 2 sheet card (ie. not a single double gloss/coated or matt) that are superlow cost at the moment and fit the physical needs perfectly for writing on whilst looking classy.

1000 for $99 (trust me, i went through EVERY siingle type of card and deal they do, these are not only cheap but perfect). art and setup is only about $27, or $88 if we get them to do all the work which we won't need with experts like Robyn and others around our group ;)

They only print in CMYK (not PMS or RGB selections) on these, but I have arrived at a green that will be acceptable to all, not quite this light but more a light pistachio with some grey in it to maximise the overall appearance (stay classsy san diego).

All of this, is of course, open for all to decide on bt having done promotional gear and brouchures etc in my marketing past I can handle it all.

So, what say you guys.

Would a select few of us like to chip in and share them around...

there's a rumour that some funds will be flowing into ozgolf.net shortly :D

but i am prepared to chip in some bucks, but if not all members want to hand them out, no problemns.

those who do could chip in together and split the cards up.

otherwise, i am just getting some done up anyway :D

Is it that hard to tell them "www.ozgolf.net"?

If you meet them on a golf course, chances are they have a pencil on them anyway ;)

Sounds like a great idea. I'd like to see us go the whole hog and actually form a formal club of sorts - raise some money and all that. Cards, bagtags.

And y'know if we take it all the way we could get accredited to manage AGU handicaps - no more lost score cards!

sigh....

ok, let me explain something about recall and aided recall and it's relevance to the effect on consumers behaviour...

half the people i tell are NOT going to remember later on, becuase unlike me they don't pay attention to things like that ;)

shoot it down if you like, i'm getting cards done anyway, just allowing the Team to pitch ideas....i do have cash and freewill y'know :D huzzah for me!

I think it's possible to register as a Social Club. That might mean we need a clubhouse of sorts, trophy wall, beer on tap.....

i could probably get it done a fair bit cheaper, so if you go ahead with it let me know...

seeing as I work in advertising and spend about $100k a month in print with my print supplier (Image Studio) I'm sure they'd be willing to cut a deal for their biggest client

sounds like a good idea.

i could stick a lot of them inside the holds of aircraft and they'd go all over the world

if we're gonna do cards, why not get some stickers done as well :?

at this stage i want to keep it simple/

sticker etc are later and i'd prefer to give that business to one of our members to spread the love around as it were.

this is just an idea i've actually had for a bit but have now had time during a lunchhour to kick it on.

i used to do guerilla markting when at uni for some firms, but this is a very turned down approach to what could be done. ;)

ps. that a great idea, something i didn't want to approach you about since it's your job, but a number of members have access to interesting delivery methods...

sure, the stickers we could actually do a "little jody" approachs on the backs of tracffic signs but i don't want any litigation or bed rep coming down on the Oz ;)

How could there be any litigation on an entity that does not exist?

woohoo! thanks mate, i knew someone would be in the biz still ;)

i'm not looking at spending molto molto dollare...just a pre-trial at this point.

what im looking for is some more feedback into the concept, execution can be dealt with later...and easily by the looks of things ;) (are you a fan of singleton eh? )

looking sweet, but would like some more feedback from the Team.

that way we can see if I/we/the guy at the pub can move this ahead whilst there is still some summer/autumn golf on.

not litigation in this sense...

i'm looking to avoid besmirching the name of ozgolf.net in the eye of the general public.

brissie's a small town, don't want our site to get the whisper treatment and get bad press in people's narrow minds eh? :D

How about instead of buying business cards we sponsor this lady. Remeember David Diaz, its not what was sold but the notoriety gained from it.

Why not? Did you see the buy it now price of 10 cents? I wonder how big a logo 10 cents gets you?

The cards aren't a bad idea, not sure how much use they would get though. I rarely seem to play with strangers these days, but there have been times that I've told someone about the site, they've sounded keen, yet they have never registered.

I just assumed that they had read a few of jarro's posts and decided not to join, but I guess it is possible that they forgot the website address.

Macca - how is this idea for getting some publicity?

Get a story in one of the golf mags!  We will be inundated with heaps more boofhead golfers to crap on and trade clubs with.

There has been quite a few write ups in golf mags recently, particularily
"The Golfer" about social golf, falling memberships and all that stuff.  People are no longer playing just one golf course, and no longer socialising at a club.

Lets face it,  for many of us here,   Ozgolf is our Golf Club.  This is where we meet, talk and arrange golf games.   The only thing missing is getting smashed at the bar.

And there is no better forum in the country (perhaps world) where someone can go to get into a game of golf. Plus we have Order of Merit and several championships. No way is there a better place.

There are other forums, but they dont have any focus on actually playing, this is what sets us apart.

The golfing public deserve to know about us.

Macca.   Do you know anyone with marketing skills (like macca).   The way to get something published is to write up a press release and fax it in.   I'd suggest starting off with "The Golfer" as that fits in with their recent themes.

If you want to go for the Golf Digest etc,  I have got a powerful contact there, just not sure if its something he would want to write about himself though.

I reckon I could draft up a press release about us.....

In lieu of anyone else sticking their hand up I'm gunna have a crack at this.

ok, before the drunken mob rolls off into the distance, urinating on bus stops, tearing up oriental lilly plantings and throwing furniture into pools... :D

i just wanted something quick and easy through which we could attract like--minded members we meet on course

(exponentially expanding our access to gear for the ho's, and bawdy tales for the non-club hos.....)

pushing the site hard is something for down the track, plus at that point we would need a business model etc.....

Bruce, how are you going with that Press Release?

There is a new newspaper style magazine going around the clubs called something like "social golfer" - our community is the perfect thing for them to do a feature on.

AndyP
30th April 2007, 09:54 AM
The paper is Inside Social Golf (ISG), and I have been in contact with one of the writers. However, the proposed story would not be a feature on this forum, but on golf forums in general.

I'm travelling right now so doing another one might help me fill the lonely evening in the hotel room. (Better than PPVP).

I did make a start on one back when this started and looking at it now it was load of bollocks. Lucky escape there for all of us I dropped it.

Mormons, Jehovas Witnesses and wankers in pyramid schemes have business cards. If someone can't be ***ked remembering one of the planet's most simple web addresses they can't be too keen about joining.

Bumper stickers, however, that's a top idea.

I have been getting mine done for about 4 years now by vista print. I also get fridge magnets and return address stickers from them. I designed my own from the template they provide. I really don't get much return from them, But that doesn't mean that they won't work for you guys. You will be getting the site up in lights whereas mine is purely for my hobby.

Jarro
