As good as shavey had done us for many years now, does anyone else have contacts that could arrange something like this? Maybe he wouldn't mind having a break from the responsibility and consequences of an event like this? Maybe he'd like a year of not having to worry that things go ok and that nothing gets stuffed up in some way?

I mean, I'd go with whatever he could sort out in a heartbeat. He has looked after us, and particularly me, many times now. I think he deserves a year of just turning up with nothing else to think of but golf and partying.

We counted Waggles. Much improved effort from DDasey.

I think he deserves a year of just turning up with nothing else to think of but golf and partying. He could do that if he does the initial queries through contacts, then hands it off to others to do all of the organising. That's how it should happen.

Why do we need 'contacts'?
The Vic and WA champs have shown that cost doesn't determine turnout. Part if the appeal surely has to be playing quality and 'out of the norm' courses - St Andrews Beach, Moonah, Royal Melb.
We get good numbers, we should be able to be smart about where we go.
Cairns or Bonville should be considered. Hell, we know that Royal Pines is going to be in cracking condition each October, accom on site etc.

Capricorn has been suggested before and discounted because too hard for cheap flights other capital cities. Shame as great complex.
Can I suggest that November as a month is dumb. It is seq storm season. You are always likely to get the same as this year.

logan city country club would be a good option, 27 holes to choose from and they don't mind the congestion after double booking. Great practice facility on site and plenty of caravan parks in driving distance. Also 'daisy chain park' in front of the course would be a great place for evening entertainment, draw back is that Rogues International closed many moons ago, Woodridge tavern could be an option?

please discuss

Nice one Shaun  You forced my hand by 6 weeks.

I flagged this very thing with about half the field who attended the NSW champs. All bar two were in favour. The 2014 NSW champs with be held start of June next year. All booked and ready to go.

A few reasons, but the biggest one is that it gives more guys the opportunity to travel to other champs, including others coming from other states to play. I'm keen to get over to WA, then VIC in the next two seasons. It just splits the year up a bit.

It's easier for us to get on to courses, easier to get off work outside of the silly season. There is no winter champs which adds another level of difficulty in winning. We'll see how it goes and whether it becomes and stays the 'Winter Champs'.

I expect to see you there.

just a note i can probably arrange theme parks as well for those who wanted them... as for Surfers its actually not as far as you think... Runaway Bay is right next door to Sanctuary Cove/Hope Island, you have only got Labrador and Southport before you hit surfers, about 25 mins... flights in are easy as you can do Gold Coast or Brisbane, same distance to the resort either way roughly...

after more thought and checking dates for the long weekend in October, the good news is plenty of availability, the only thing I am waiting on is any news about any reno work that might be scheduled... anyway these are further thoughts...

3 nights accommodation - Friday 3rd October - Monday 6th October (Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove Resort)

Friday - Social Round - Links Hope Island - 1230pm Shotgun Start (gives time for anyone flying in)
Saturday - Championships Round 1 - Sanctuary Cove The Palms - 1 Tee Start from 10am
Saturday - International Buffet at Cove Cafe in the resort
Sunday - Championships Round 2 - Sanctuary Cove The Palms - 1 Tee Start from 730am
Sunday - BBQ Buffet Lunch & Presentations POst Golf
Monday - Optional Extra Round - Arundel Hills Golf & Country Club

All pricing below is based on twin share king or 2 x double beds, anyone wanting to bring families I can work something out for an interconnecting twin room with a king.

Package 1

3 Nights Accommodation
Welcome drinks - The Pool House (individual expense)
Full Buffet Breakfast Daily
International Buffet & Wine Buffet (Saturday Evening - Cove Cafe at the resort)
BBQ Lunch (at the Country Club post golf Sunday)
Links Hope Island
Sanctuary Cove The Palms
Sanctuary Cove The Pines
Arundel Hills Golf & Country Club
Return transfers to LHI & AHGCC
PRICE - $793 per person

Package 2

3 Nights Accommodation
Welcome drinks - The Pool House (individual expense)
Full Buffet Breakfast Daily
BBQ Lunch (at the Country Club post golf Sunday)
Links Hope Island
Sanctuary Cove The Palms
Sanctuary Cove The Pines
Return transfers to LHI
PRICE - $633 per person

In both cases for the Pines and Palms no transfers required as you can walk straight across the marina village car park to the country club where carts will be setup for both days.

Just thinking out loud but pricing is pretty much spot on... the only downside is green fees for people not wishing to stay will have to be worked out as all pricing is based around our Stay and Play packages.

Any feedback is welcome...

If anyone wants to check out the resort we have a relatively new microsite which looks pretty cool. Check out the link below

You might be able to book Popper's backyard Winabago for the weekend. It is only about 20 minutes away!

hey mate we dont have any suites with kitchenette... anyone wanting an interconnecting twin room with 2 x double beds it will be $209 per night extra... anyone with small children a rollaway bed can be organised in the current packages for an extra $45 per night, the king rooms are quite big and can accommodate... another option is our Queenslander suites that has a lounge area with foldout bed and extra rollaway can be brought in. This would cost $175 per night on top of above packages...

Actually, broncos will most likely be in the GF, so might have to go in light pencil.

My only suggestion would be a package that is Friday and Saturday night with golf Friday, Sat & Sun. I will be a good boy and go home for one day of the long weekend but I will not miss out on Hope Island again and its been probably 25 years since my last visit to the Pines so love the suggestion of courses.

I think someone needs to put their hand up and be the organiser like Lefty is for Vic.

Shavey performed the andigold role at Qld Champs and without an overall organiser, I felt some things were missed to make the weekend as good as it can be.

Lefty does a great job but it must stress him

Spreading the load is a good

Out of interest what was missed at the last qld champs?

Lefty could still let some things go, but it's his baby, so maybe he is reluctant to delegate all things.

Out of interest what was missed at the last qld champs?Shavey organised the golf, accommodation and Friday night activities. That's a lot for one person, and could easily be spread amongst other people, even if the one person like Blaz, was the initial contact. The prize allocation beforehand, and working out prizes after the round seemed to get missed, and fell on me. The trophies of Monsta's at Vic Champs is a great touch.
There was no predetermined MC for the games.

I just think it needs someone to coordinate everything that is needed for a successful Champs, with help from the committee, which doesn't mean they have to do the organisation of it. This is something that I have done in some other years.

A couple of us have put our hands up to do the organising this year.Blaz and you? Are there others? Permissions can be set up for the Champs committee forum area.

i'm still happy to help guys... i can set a package(s) up get all the golf locked in and people could just book their package directly at their own leisure... rooms would be subject to availability which would promote players to book nice and early or risk missing out... that takes any heat off me, wont effect golf bookings as they will already be locked in...

jeffblaz
9th March 2014, 04:10 PM
ok just an update people! i will pull all the packages together this week. the plan i have is to have our own booking page through the resort for anyone wanting the golf/accommodation package and my bank details for golf only... this way rooms etc are subject to availability and will release closer to the date if they are not taken. I will put pricing up for Single and Twin/King share, the accommodation/golf package will be much better value as i can do better pricing with stay and play as such...

Watch this space.
