View Full Version : 2013 Champs Goals

KristianJ

Your chance to let us know your hopes, dreams, goals (both golf and non-golf related) for the big weekend, so we can either help or hinder your efforts.

I know this is shameless theft of Courty's perpetual goal, but a 30 point average over the 5 days will be my key on course goal, closely followed by remaining shank free.

Make it past the reds on every first tee shot each day. I would love to say average over 30 points but I don't like to set unattainable goals. Have less than 40 putts per round.

Due to work I really haven't had a chance to play any golf over the last 6 weeks so I am super excited about this weekend.

Also a great opportunity to put a few more faces to names.

A chance to catch up with some mates who I don't get a chance to see / play golf with as often as I would like.

Have a few laughs.

LeftyHoges

Now that champs is over I can reveal a few little secret goals that I had for the week...
* Break 80 from the PGA tees at Royal Pines - 82, Fail.
* Return with 14 intact clubs - Despite several attempts to fail, and admittedly I haven't checked them after being in the hands of those bastard baggage handlers, this is a pass. 58° wedge might need to be bent 6° upright to counter bowed shaft, however. Pass.
* Make QLD bent greens my biatch - Undetermined. Pfft, who am I kidding, they OWN me. Fail.
* Win best gross prize - Pas... aaaawww. :-(
* Rid OZgolf forever of Sandbaggers - Fail. They still remain.
* Win the Vs Lefty challenge - Seems that a bogey on 17 on Saturday (a piss-easy hole really) ultimately cost me the title of the challenge I honestly didn't think I'd get anywhere near. Disappoint, but nice to earn an avocado for OZgolf by narrowing it down to 2 players. Didn't win but will still call it a pass.
* "Fluff" the Bunny - Was admittedly slightly nervous about this one, just one of those feelings. Shouldn't have worried, was in complete control, leading wire-to-wire to continue the torture. Looking forward to continuing the petting in February in my backyard.
* Shoot an even par round - Birdied the last 2 at Mt Warren Park to do so, breaking Courtys and Poppers hearts in the process in the 4B with LagerLover. Solid player, hits a great 45° ball when he's on. Pass. The 74 & 75 Sat & Sun were fairly satisfying too, just quietly.
* Earn a new nickname - Extreme pass. I like the "Little / Double Teapot" best, and even caught myself "Condoring" at one stage.
* Hatch a devious plan to take as many Approach & NTP's away from the mid-cappers as humanly possible. 4 is a pretty decent result here. Pass.
* Don't do anything overly stupid to embarrass myself - Still to be determined.

Excluding Mt. Warren Park, I disagree. But the main issue for me is familiarity. There are only so many courses up here that so I know them all quite well. I can play Cairns (in particular) & all the other courses in the region on auto-pilot because I know them all like the back of my hand. When I travel to Champs etc. I'm at a huge disadvantage because I don't get enough practice at playing new courses. I still haven't learnt to switch on as much as I need to, and stay switched on. That said, I had decent rounds at The Glades & Lakelands because I had playing partners who knew the courses as well as I know my home courses, and could guide me around.

+1, partly for the reasons above, but also because I think they were just tougher (narrower, more bunkers to avoid, more contours, more water etc.)

A bit like Lefty, I had some secret goals for the weekend.

Break 80 at Royal Pines. Close with 81.
Average 36 points a round. Way off with 32,34,35,30.
Conquer the faster greens than what I am used to. Epic fail, as some of my playing partners would attest to, after watching me knock birdie putts metres past the holes.
Not get wet. Succeed:D

After my 20 point Thursday effort (featuring my sole shank of the 5 days) I was fearing the worst. But, with the assistance of my Shavey-esque 24 points on the Palm Meadows front 9, I somewhat comfortably made the 30 point average.
