November next year the course will be about 80% where it was when it was home to the Heineken which should be very good. That was the undertaking put forth by the club.

In terms of cost, we could get a member to book each flight bringing the cost down to $35 per head plus $20 per person for carts.

Saturday on Ellenbrook and Sunday on Lakes. Accommodation, we should get 10 or 20% discount.

Plus pool, squash, tennis, gym and sauna...

No - Greg Norman and PGA pulled the sponsors across to the East Coast. THe Vines in not Norman's favourite course.
Conditioning went down just after the last Johnny Walker and Lexus - it was deemed unprofitable to host anymore tournaments by the owner.

THis year has been a change of heart - the club is going to vie for more tournaments in thier 5 year plan.

The course has been improving. I base my perception on the work that I have seen been done. When SMS and I played on Thursday, we saw three workers cutting around sprinkler heads etc on the same hole - working their way through. The bunkers edges are fully maintained now. These tasks are labour-intensive but the course management seem to be persisting with it. The GM from the Heinekin years has been brought back with the last one being escorted out. They are expecting to add another 6 staff (19 in total) by the middle of next year.

Ultimately - let's see how the course improves by the start of January.

Agreed. Played Sun City a few weeks ago - definitely will be worthwhile playing next year once there are no temporary greens. There were three 6 weeks ago. Hopefully finished by the time we are ready.

Swan Valley is a nice place to stay. Not much in accomodation along the coast that is reasonable.

My opinion:
Joondalup is a spectacle worth seeing/playing, much like The Cut.
Sun City is worth the walk as the changes are likely to be good.
Wanneroo/Lakelands is typical of many higher priced private courses - consistent conditions but a little over rated with some variety. Not a tournament setup in the way LK and TV were designed to be.

There is Yanchep public course - similar to Serpentine for our 9 holer. Truly rural.

Seriously the conditioning at the Vines isnt that bad, probably comparable to most courses that we have previously played. You wouldn't want to pay $100+ to play there in current condition but is still pretty good, especially if we can get on for cheaper rates. Some great stuff in there Bergs. Remember well Yoss choking up the last couple of holes when we all thought he had The Zeus beaten. Can't remember shooting 41 points myself though!

Choking? I was a 23 capper that couldn't putt or chip. Zues was the one who shanked his approach.

Love getting a shot on a 427 par 5.

Actually the hardest par 5 on the course, with OOB running along the left edge of fairway. Is a constant bend to the right, so not as easy to hit in 2 as it sounds (for me anyway).

The way I played it in my second round should be in the Gheyest things I've done thread.

I Could hit hybrid 5 iron and be on the green. But since I get a shot I could hit 6/6/w. 5/3 thanks very much.

I remember the hole now, along the river...

That approach works even better when you drop a 4m putt for birdie :)

So is the 2014 GSM being played at Maylands. I'll have to look this course up and do a bit of study.

Would that give you the opportunity to pop by on one of the three days for a quick 9?
