Seeing as people have flights booked and are keen to get hire cars / rides booked also, let's get some things organised here... Post away and I'll update the table as we go...
As mentioned previously I'm fairly certain I'll have a sizeable trailer that we can put stacks of gear into so if guys need to book 4 to a car we should be able to work something out.

Hey Lefty,

I will have my ute there, so while I will only be able to give one person a lift, I can fill the back with clubs etc.
For anyone getting there early or leaving late I will be in Melbourne the Wednesday before the champs and not leaving until the Wednesday after so may be able to help early arrivers/late leavers

This is my 90% locked in as far as I can 5 months out plan.

Driving down solo Thursday monring - should be right to shuttle 1 or 2 around for the weekend. Assume Melb airport ETA approx 12:30 to 1pm.

SuperMario has already commandeered a seat so there should be room for one more.

Happy to do what I have to

Crew cab ute available Thursday - Sunday

Lefty did I read someware you were going to do the sab - airport - woodlands? Am happy to do a load of Thursday pickups / deposits, am thinking I may as well warm at at Woodlands anyway.

We are looking to hire a car there for the weekend.

I'm on the same flight in as PeteyD, but I'm not sure about the outbound flight.
I haven't organised a car or lifts yet.

Yep I'm on QF480 arriving at 12.05pm. Happy to share a car with you both.

I think Simmsy and Shadesy are leaving on Sunday as they're not playing on Monday so I'd appreciate a lift with someone to golf on the Monday.

I'm flying out of Melbourne at 5.00pm on the Monday.

Im getting in at 10:30 Thursday morning but not going back to the airport Monday ( sticking around for another week) so Happy to throw someone some coin to help me get from airport / around each day or chip in for a hire car. Wouldn't be advisable for me to hire it myself rates will be super high .

I'll be driving, with my wagon. I don't think anybody is flying into Avalon, but if they are, I'm driving past there on Thursday and Friday for pickups. I'm also happy to swing across to Tullamarine if we're short on for cars on Thursday.

I'm not staying at Chateau de Andigold, but I'll happily pick up/drop off on the way past for the Melbourne days. I'm no help on Saturday morning/Sunday night because I'll be catching the ferry and staying overnight at the accom (although happy to carpool with anybody coming across to do the two-day peninsula jaunt from somewhere to the west of Melbourne).

Note, I can't guarantee that I'll get you there with time to spare for practice. :)

I've had a thought. Who is going to be sober enough to drive my car each morning/afternoon?

PeteyD
2nd December 2013, 02:52 PM
One reason to get a car is to avoid a incident on the tiles.

I can get a Liberty/Camry through RACQ for about $300 from the 6th to the 10th. A bit more for a falcon a bit less for an i30. Seriously considering this option.

Just don't piss for an entire round of golf + 3 hours and all the alcohol will come out in one hit (and then you can go straight to bed) :D

Maybe we should do a roster up for designated driver. I'm happy to stay sober at least one of the four nights.

Just as an aside, Alpha Airport parking (who I use quite regularly) have Kia Carnivals available for $400 total or $500 with reduced excess for the 5 days. If 5 or 6 guys shared one of these it works out quite cheap.

MIL has an 07 X-Trail, the boots are not _that_ big tbh, not as big as say a Commodore wagon. But we'd still go close to getting them in by stacking them I reckon. Especially if one or two are carry bags (mine won't be, sadly)...

Just need to confirm days etc and confirm the others who expressed an interest are sorted.
I will be at melb airport approx 12 thursday and will be heading back to cba as soon as we finish at kew as i am driving solo and will want to hit the road sooner rather than later.
When are you arriving and departing?

Alrighty - I get in at 11:15am Thursday, so all good from that POV. I fly out at 3:30pm on Monday is the only thing, so won't have heaps of time to muck around after the round at Kew. Everyone will be knackered by then though and things broke up pretty early last year anyway.

One thing I just realised, I have a hard case that goes round my crubs... will take up a bit of space!! Hopefully we can manage that until we dump it at the hotel.

2nd January 2014, 08:26 PM

I'm sure we / others can get you around on Sunday arvo and Monday and back to the airport.

PeteyD
4th January 2014, 10:28 PM
Nudgee is joining us for travel except from the airport on Thursday I think, so golf travel and most likely to the airport on Monday. We should fit 4 of us into the entrail, or we can pay a bit more ($25 each I think) and get a carnival?

ACtually no, it is more than that.

Entrail - 302 with reduced excess
Carnival 507 with reduced excess
Elantra - 317

Not sure we sould fit in an elantra. XTrail it is I think.

BenM
4th January 2014, 10:35 PM
No wuckas. No experience at all with Carnivals but looking at the Kia website that would give us heaps of room if we fold the third row seats down.... would probably be a safer option (4 people's golf bags + luggage etc will take up a bit of space). I am fine with going that way if it's easier.

Edit: Yeah.. so $50 or so more assuming we split it 4 ways.

There will likely be others willing to help ferry luggage around too if last year is anything to go by... so even if it doesn't all go in the X-Trail it won't be the end of the world as we know it.

AndyP
4th January 2014, 10:35 PM

And I won't be bringing 6 pairs of shoes with me either, unlike some round here...

Cheers mate, that's perfectly fine with walking.

The accommodation is not a problem at all. The Thu, Fri & Sun nights are just paid at the hotel upon checkout and the sat night accommodation is $70. At this stage im staying in melbourne for another week after the champs so I wont be needing the lift back to the airport..Although certain unexpected bills might change that now but if thats the case I will sort out an alternate lift. Thanks again mate.

So in the circus we have PeteyD, AndyP, BenM, Nudgee and Hux?

Not that you should need it gents but I'll be bringing along an enclosed trailer so that if you (or anyone else) needs it there'll be more room to put stuff travelwise.

Just heard from GK, there is now a spare seat in the ute.

Due to a bit of a change in plans I'll now have a hire car after flying in at 6.15 am on Friday. As if RM wasn't going to be tough enough without having to play it on very little sleep after getting the red eye flight!

I plan to catch up with a mate on Friday morning but after that I will have some spare seats if needed by anyone.

I'm flying out at 8.20pm on Sunday so if anyone needs a lift to the airport for a flight around this time I should be able to help out.

Note, there is a strict "No Nickelback" policy while travelling in my vehicle.

Nickelback will cause the ejector seat in the Circus to operate with extreme prejudice.

Slightly on topic ...

My bro and a mate are playing the Mornington area at the end of Feb. Other mates are driving there, so they'll be right to get around, once they get to Dromana. They are flying in the day before, staying at Southbank and need to get to Dromana on a Saturday morning (with a standbag and cabin bag each).

Point-to-point car rental is overkill. I suggested a train to Frankston and the local bus service to Dromana.

Is there anything better, like a coach service from the city to the peninsular?

Roughly an hour on the train to Frankston, then Dromana is another 45 minutes on the bus.

Assuming they didn't have a ton of luggage its doable - and probably about $12.

One standbag and one cabin bag each.

They looked at car rental, but it was going to be around $150 for what is essentially only a 2 hour drive, and the drop-off point was still Frankston.

I'd expect a hire car and driver would cost the same.

http://jp.ptv.vic.gov.au/ptv/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en

Start at Southern Cross station and go to Dromana (the URI doesn't hold a search detail or I would just paste a result)

Looks like about 2:30 hours with a bus from Frankston to Dromana and a cost of $6 via myki. Skybus is $18 from the airport to Southern Cross.

Or http://www.fapas.com.au/fares is $51 each to get to Dromana from the airport. I would pay $25 to have much less ****ing about. Book online first.

Also what typical flight times are you guys booking for the Monday flight back ??

Wondering if anyone had a spare decent buggy that an old man could use for the week? I was hoping to carry all 4 rounds but old age has caught up to me and may need to use buggy a few times.

If we can check in separately to our room mates, then we should probably do that, but we don't want to push it close.

Allow yourselves around an hour and 15 (travel time only) from Airport to hotel, then to Woodlands. So another 15 to check-in.

So long as you leave the car pick-up by 1 you should be at Woodlands close enough to 2:30, 2:45 at the latest.

And if you haven't done so already (which you probably can't) I strongly advise you to get a CityLink pass.

It will depend on who you have booked with Pete.
Europcar have their own toll tags so if you use yours you get charged twice.
Not sure about the others though.

Yeah, the toll road. And actually wouldn't be surprised if they do handle that.

Basically you'll use the toll road coming out of the airport down to the hotel on Thursday, going to Kew on Monday along the Eastern Freeway, and then from Kew to the airport after golf. So not a lot of use but enough.

Bruce

Alpha are 3 minutes from the airport, basically the longest wait is waiting for them to come pick you up in the shuttle.

I advise that as soon as the last person collects their luggage to give them a call. They're usually pretty quick at collecting me, but I've never done it at 12.30 in the day.
