Wow I just had a look at an old video of my swing in slow motion. I never realised how much the shafts felx during my swing. Is this normal?!?!?!

First shot is a 5-iron regular swing with DG X-100 shaft.

Second one is a Driver regular swing with 43" Ei-70 X-Stiff Shaft.

 Jeezuz! :-k

Have you had your swing speed measured? I'd be interested to see what it is...

Edit: the first pic looks like you have released early. I don't think the club should be flexing toward the ball so much before you have hit it... :?

Moe, you animal!

I think some of the flex you see is artifact due to slow shutter speed.

Do you have access to a camcorder with Sports Mode? You'll probably find the degree of shaft flex dramatically reduced with faster shutter speed.

If you want an accurate assessment of how much the shaft flexes during your swing, have your swing tested on the True Temper Shaft Lab.

BTW, that's a pretty impressive leg drive you got there. Transfer of weight onto the left side nicely ... something I'm working on at the moment.

i would say that the 5 iron flex in the photo is impossible, there is no way a clubhead coudl be in front of the shaft at that point.. even thinking about how cameras work its so weird it gets captured like that

Maybe it's the start oh his backswing?

I have three different videos, one with 5 irons, one with dirver and one with wedge. The flex is minimal with the wedge, but the driver one is the same as that 5 iron one, where it whips around in FRONT of the shaft!

it surely is an optical illusion?!

I just found an old shaft lab print out from June 2001, none of it means anything to me but here are some of the things it says on it.

5-iron

Maximum Shaft Deflection 4.72 inches
Downswing Time : 0.34 Seconds
Clubhead Lead at Impact: 1.77 inches (maybe this one is relevant?!)
Clubhead Droop at Impact: -0.86 inches

Shaft Reccomendation:
Steel: True Temper Dynamic Gold with sensicore X-100 (123 Grams)
Graphite: True Temper does not offer a ashaft of this material category for your specifications
New Tech: True Temper Tri-Gold Steel with Sensicore Gold X (127-141 Grams)

There's another page of gobldigook on there but I can't be bothered writing it all out.

I don't think it's rare at all for the shaft to have forward bend just before or at impact. Dunno if it's ideal or what, but I guess it's one way that shafts can contribute to launch angle. Agree with Jono it's probrobly actually much less than it looks in the 5i pic.

i hope so, because it just doesn't look 'right'!!
