Well not sure if this is worth starting the thread but I shot 16 points today @ Bonnie Doon  maybe better tomorrow. :?

More crap golf today, Carnarvon with Matt, Andrew & Terry (marcel) it was better than yesterday but only marginally. I had 21 points.
Could not get off the tee all day, played silly shots when in trouble. One highlight was my putting, only 1 or 2, 3 putts all the rest were quite good considering recently cored greens at Carnavon.
Really wanted to get to 18 by Christmas but maybe I am just trying too hard, swing is reallly eratic and needs work. I go from playing like a low teen handicap to 36+ in 2 shots. Might be time for a burst of lessons to get the swing basics right. I really think my problems are mental more than anything I have to control the urge to swing fast and stop lossing my swing tempo.

Oh well it only means next time will be better.

Given that Brooky17 doesn't get on the internet very much.... ok, never! Just wanted to report that he had 43 points around Brookwater on Saturday, including pars on 10 thru 17. He's now off 13. 8)

43, nice.

My little holiday has ended today and I've surpised myself with my eagerness to play some golf. Got in 3 rounds in basically a week . Anyway, third round in 4 over or less today so me is quite pleased. I think the swing has come along nicely, started hooking the driver, draws with the irons and weak ass wedge shots, then was leaving everything right and still weak ass wedges and today the irons went mostly straight and felt strong and the wedges were much improved :). Driver still very iffy, but no dirty hooks 8)

played with grant, andrew and terry today, as grant mentioned at carnarvon, i had 33 points, off a 7 handicap.
hit the driver not that well, a few off the screws, i think i hit 1 fairway all day, irons were really good though, but because carvarvon is short, didnt have may full iron shots in, putting was again not that great, the short ones gave me hell, and as grant said, when i step up to the ball, there is a feeling around the green that "this is not going in", not that he was having a go at me, just my body language i guess, damn flatblade.
Thanks to andrew, terry and grant for being great company and grant i hope you reach your goal by the end of the year, looked like you were very stiff in the wrists at the top of the swing, maybe let them hinge a bit more, my 2c.

Played at Redland Bay this morning, played quite well for 38points, with 2 wipes. I played quite well, trusted my swing most of the day, just a few silly mistake's, but my game is slowly getting there!!

One of my playing partner's, a junior from the bay off 2, had 44 point's for a 66 of the stick!! Quite impressive to watch.

And a mate who is a pro had 32points. But his wedge game from 110m out was very impressive, consistently putting the ball within 10-15 feet. He heads over to Asia in the new year for the tour school over there.

And my mate from work had 32points as well.

Played Redcliffe today for the first time and was very impressed :)
The best greens I have putted on for quite awhile.
Shot 84 after being 1 over after 8  just fell apart over the last 6 :(

Putts 31
Greens 6 (missed 4 others by less than a metre)
Fairways 6 drove the ball terrible today a couple of big cutts on the last three cost me heaps
Damn it was bloody hot today drank about 4 litres of water  temp hit 36* at around 2pm.

Could you have chosen any worse holes to be cutting the ball? Were you fetching your ball from the mangroves?

nice layout mate isn't it  i almost joined Redcliffe instead of Nudgee because Redcliffe is actually closer to my home.

We'll have to go and have another round there seeing as though you've had a taste of it now 8)

Jarro
15th December 2005, 08:20 AM
i think it's only marginally more expensive than Nudgee (around $700 per annum)

.. at least it was when i checked it out a couple of years ago. I would've joined there in a heartbeat .. but after i weighed up the fact that Nudgee has 2 courses, better practice facilities, and is on my direct route to and from work, the decision really was an easy one to make

Redcliffe is a really top club though, and the course is always in excellent condition.

Maybe we should try and have an Ozgolf day there sometime soon 8)

Yet another poor round could not get any rythym with my swing, was getting better on the back nine.
29 points today @ Mac Grange in the Champion OF Champions Precept Challenge.
Really inconsistent with the driver either Pulling them left and long :x , slicing them short :x and nailing them for long long drives with a gentle left to right flight :) .
Iron play is better :?
Putting was ok apart from a horrible 4 putt double bogie on the 15th.

I might need a break of playing and a stint of more practice. Game was going forward until Monday

32 points today at Caboolture, drove really nicely, but wasn't excellent around the greens and with the flat stick. I might change balls again.
Was pin high on one of the par 5s for 2, and 20m short of one of the others for 2, so they were both new experiences. Unfortunately bogeyed one and parred the other, so didn't make the most of it. The story of my round really.
I did have the good fortune of marking the card of a guy who had 47 points (including a wash) though (80 off the stick with a 20 hcp), so I know he wasn't fibbing. He had 25 points on the 9 with the wash.
4, 3, 2, 3, -, 3, 4 birdie, 3, 3. He'd have beaten me 8 and 7 in match play and at that stage I wasn't far from my handicap.

Against better judgement (and the protests from my back) I played today. Didn't do anything particularly well, or particularly bad either. I was travelling ok points-wise, but faded in the last few holes to finish with 35 pts (79 gross).

What can I say, I can't help myself. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I didn't play golf on a Saturday. Besides, I can't get in to see the physio (back specialist) until January, so what the heck.

A bittersweet monthly medal round yesterday.....  Started solidly, with the only blemish on the front 9 a 3 putt on the par 5 4th.  I turned in 1-over - 37.

Solid pars on 10 & 11 continued the trend... and then... I just made a horrrible swing (8 iron)on the par 3 12th - in the drink.  Next shot was only marginally better - then a chip & 2 putts - TRIPLE BOGEY !!!

Still in shock, I make a good 3 wood tee shot on 13, then another crap swing (7 iron) on the approach... miserable short left.... pitch & 2 putts,  BOGEY.

Trying to gather myself, I make a good drive on 14, and I come up just short for 2 (par 5)..... up & down for birdie...  whew!

A solid par on 15 then brings me the par 3 16th.  Inexplicably, I make another brainless swing... a huge hook with a 6 iron that finds the water, and the drop is dead.  2 chips & 2 putts later, I make ANOTHER TRIPLE BOGEY on a par 3!!!

A nice par on 17 from the light rough, and then I crush a big drive back into the breeze on 18 to be centre fairway.  Out comes the 8 iron, and another unbelievably bad swing.....   way left, and into the water, AGAIN!!  The drop goes deep in the rough....  You guessed it.... 2 chips & 2 putts later, I make my third TRIPLE BOGEY for the day!!!

So the tale of the tape reads 82 off the stick (+10), with 3 triple bogeys and a 3-putt......  Oh, what could (read: should) have been.... :?

Twilight at Yarra Yarra on Friday night. 16 pts on the front nine.

4 pars which was excellent but a couple of wipes too and only 1 x 3 putt.
Spectrum continues to hit fairways more than it misses.

Magnificient BBQ dinner marred only by 25 mins of speeches from 2 brothers who had racked up 50 years of continuous membership each. I was unprepared for this turn of events as was forced to endure it with an empty glass in front of me. I dared not go up to the bar while presentations were on - my host would have receieved another letter from the committee.

We were visiting the in-laws so I snuck out for a quick 9 this morning and had 9 over 45 off the stick. 3 pars and 1 x 3 putt.

I've been paying a lot more attention to my course management techniques to get away from advancing the ball as close as possible to the hole with every shot. Bring on the Holidays!!

Sat -
Net 73-
fairways 6 GIR 8
32 putts (2x3, 1x4 putt (first went of the green))

Got there early onlt to see I had been pushed to a earlier group because the other guys in the group had pulled out. so no time for prac straight to the 1st. par the first two holes. nice start. lost a ball on the third & a 3 putt for a 8. made a 7 from the fairway on 4 (pull hook it to the shit with a PW) had a 7 on the next par 5 (OB). made a 5 on 7 :D . Then on 8 hit a great drive and 6 iron to 3m and left the eagle putt on the edge of the hole. Out in 48. The back nine was ok except for 13 where I had a 9 (tree trouble). par 17 and 18 (driver SW). home in 48.

One of the guys of 4 I played with said I was hitting great shots and could have shoot anything. I didn't think I played that well but a net 73 with a run of 8,7,7,9 must be ok.

Sun -
Net 73-
fairways 3 GIR 4
36 putts (8x3 putts thank god for a chip in a 1 putts)

Out in 48
chip-in on the first for a bird, par the 2
7 on 7 :( (bad tee shot)
par on 8.

hole in 48
par 18 again driver pw

I played worse then sat but still shot ok. All in all played to my hcp two days in a row on a course that destory my game 99% of the time.

abysmal performance around Brookwater yesterday. Driver was all over the shop, iron shots were either fat or thin, chipping was pretty ordinary ... and i couldn't make a putt to save my life.

107 off the stick was a pretty good result considering the state of my game on the day

88 gross around Brookwater, for 28 points.

10 fairways
5 GIR
36 putts

I 2-putted every green, which is abysmal. Of the 13 greens i missed, I had 11 Up & Down chances. I chipped everything to between 4-10 feet and made NOTHING. Not hard to work out where I need to focus my energy this coming year!

72 Gross at Brookwater Yesterday (38pts)

13 Fairways
14 Greens
31 Putts

It's been a long time scince I walked off a golf course and felt so good about my game. I hit it so straight it was silly (other than 9).

My new relaxed 8) non-compettive frame of mind is working a treat, I can recommend taking the pressure off yourself and letting it happen.

Can't wait for my next round in 3 months. :D

18/12/2005, Brookwater GC, OZgolf day.

10/14 effective T-shots.
3/18 effective approaches.
1/7 successful up and downs.
33 putts.
--------------------------
1 birdie (9th).
4 pars (in a row, 4th-7th).
8 bogeys.
4 doubles (3 in a row from 12th-14th).
1 other (17th).
Score 20-10-30pts (H/cap 12).

Hit a shocking T-shot to start proceedings, but settled down after that and had a pretty good round, especially the front nine.

Driver was great for the first nine, before a few push/slices on the back nine really hurt the score.  Managed to straighten it up for the last few drives.

Probably had the best ball striking round I have had with the Raven irons to date.  It's good to see balls heading towards the pin/target again, seems like it has been a while.

Chipping and putting was satisfactory, never left myself overly tough second putts, but the putts wouldn't quite drop to get up and down enough.

I think the form is OK, so I'm hoping it can convert to a nice score on an easier course soon.  Next round is Twin Waters on Friday.

Well finally made the plunge into the red figures on Sunday in a Members vs Staff day.  Played last year for a 75 which at the time was my best score ever so I like this event :)

Single stab but due to the renos three weeks ago and excessive rain, it was preferred lies and the bunkers were GUR.  Anyway, didn't really do anything exciting, or so I thought, and finished off wish 47 points with a wipe    Had 71 off the bat with 2 x three putts and 6 birdies

Of course, I copped an earful from the members but they were quite happy for me considering it was my best score ever.

Played a 9 hole, two ball ambrose today at the new Royal Pines course (with a 45 marker) and came in with a tidy 4 under to win by 5 shots!

I don't know what is going on but I don't want to wake up.

Anyway, finally got the handicap back into singles which was the goal for '05.

I'm scared to see what's going to happen at next years Members vs Staff day  :?
