Living in Bundy but planning on returning to Bris within next month - saw on tele up here last week that Bundaberg GC have a membership drive - No nom fee and $75 full membership - if I became a member purely for handicap reasons does that entitle me to play in Bris comps when I return to Bris for good[not planning on going back up there after I move] - or is it more complicated than that? -would I be better off joining a Bris club? - want a proper handicap but don't really feel the need to belong to a club.

that might be the way to go Damoocow (man you gotta change that name)

just grab the AGU handicap, then you can play all the comps around town 8)

golfer69, is there a minimun number of games you have to play at Emmy Lakes to keep your membership valid :?:

If you wanted to go with Emmy, I could pick up the form..send it up to you for signing...you send it back with 100 clams and five scorecards....I will sign and submit the cards, and you will have an official AGI hcap in no time.

Is the AGI recognised at many courses?
Damo - you'll also have to learn the secret handshake, and the Emmy Lakes oath.

The hardest part with joining a remote course (that you're not going to play all of the time) is fielding questions from your group when you play Open Comps around the traps..

Partner: So what's your home course like?
You: It's, um, nice. Er, has nice features.. some holes, cut grass.....

It was about 4 months after joining Casino that i first played there  :?

A country membership at a club isn't a bad idea, at least that way you get free rounds of golf somewhere. No freebies with the Emmy deal.

AP - do not want to ever come back here for the free golf - so not a bonus for me!

5 handicap card can be from anywhere...and you don't have to play Emmy at all.

you sure about that. Am pretty sure the AGU implemented some changes a few years back that at least 3 of the cards for a new handicap must be at the home club. I remember this cos it changed shortly after I took advantage of that.

Blakey,
The young lass on the phone seemed very sure about this.
However it was also the same lass that said there were some very nice fellows in the pennant team ! :?

You should know better than to question my useless information !

From the VGA "At least 3 of the initial 5 cards must be from the player's home club"

Your First Handicap

To obtain an Australian Handicap, a golfer must submit 5 cards. At least 3 of the initial cards must be from the Home Club.

Might want to chase this one up further with Emmy Lakes. :?

Ok so I have to play Emmy 3 times at least and submit 2 other cards - so it basically will cost me $200 to get an AGU hcap - will think on this - may choose to join cheap northside club - [is Emmy at Carrara ? - and what is the course like?] - it is all becoming confusing [and yes I am an idiot]

I can assure you that I was a member at Gainsborough Greens for two years under a similar scenario and would have been lucky to play a total of two games at the home track yet still maintained a handicap.

Thats maintaining a handicap, 3 from 5 doesnt apply to that, only when getting a new one.

yep, it is on the VGA website, although we do know victorians have lots of special rules, in this case no, handicapping is one system for all the country.

Yep, its not mentioned on the QGU website, but that was designed by a 6yo. Its not mentioned on the AGU either. Anyone got an Australian Golfers Handbook? thats the only place where full details of our Handicapping system is contained.

I cant remember when and where i read this rule, maybe in a golf mag, qld golfer or such, but the VGA confirms it.

Otherwise someones name gunna be mud if he joins a club and then finds out later how much he is really upfor.

Moocow. why not join your local club now for $75 and get 5 quickies in, thats gotta be cheapest.

is Emmy at Carrara ? - and what is the course like

Its at Carrara just past the stadium. The course is described amongst other things as 3 star, middle class. Fits right in betweeen the over expensive resort and the $25 parkland cheapo's, and is easily the best course in this class.

Its short, lots of water but not penal except for about 3 holes. Magnificent driving range open till late, mini golf and 9 holes floodlit.

Owner has been spending a bucket load of money on the course and clubhouse as its the drawcard to the residential development, and the PGA in a few more months.

The clubhouse is magnificent and probably the only one that still opens after dark - and is in fact packed out at least 5 nights a week. So the social aspect is pretty good also.

A lot of locals cant get over the old stereotype of the cow paddock that it used to be when Packer owned it, even though they havent seen the new course. Somehow they think that after the renovations its still the same standard.
