I spent over 6 hours in a golf cart yesterday. It's the first time I've run an electric cart completely flat. Of course It didn't begin to slow until I was leaving the 4th tee and was completely dead by the middle of the 5th fairway. Pushing a cart backwards across grass and rough to get it off the playing area is loads of fun. (not)

I don't think there is a Nully Cup this year, but there will hopefully be some other Matchplay scenario. At this stage Im looking at North V South of the SWAN River, based on Home Clubs. As PGN Home is North, this captures all these.

Unfortunately I am now out. P'd off as 3 games in 3 days would have been heaven as i'm lucky to get 3 games in 3 months these days. But we've just signed an O&A on a new house and settlement/moving will be over this weekend.

The upside of the move is that I'll be achieving a longtime dream of living in a golf course estate. Directly behind our back fence will be the 8th green of Araluen. While I know the course has some major issues with conditioning I'm looking forward to being able to jump my back fence and to walk straight onto the course for some early morning / late afternoon practice.

Why? What have you heard? The latest I've heard is that James Packer is trying to buy it for his wealthy casino clients to play at. If that goes ahead there should be plenty of money spent on its upkeep.

Anyway even if it's gone for whatever reason next year it had no bearing on us buying there. We already live in Roleystone and wanted to stay in the same area, and this particular house has everything we were looking for. i.e. swimming pool and bigger house with baby number 4 due in November.

Packer has already "bought" Glen Iris, Maylands and wants to buy Vines and Araluen also if all the rumours are true.

I hope that Araluen gets back to its glory day. I fear it won't though.

from a conversation had with a client only last week, the deal is all but done in respect to Maylands. It will undergo some serious renovations/redesign/redevelopment, and be under full control of Burswood (re: Packer) by 2017.

He didn't know if it will be a private access course once they have control, or if it will be a public access arrangement.

I did read the other day though that a developer (Qube comes to mind, but I might be mistaken) is looking at Araluen in line with an expansion and/or development program. As I understood it, the view was to bring in another international type tournament.....

Yep far from being down i'm very excited.

I know there's lots of rumours going around about Packer so who knows what's the truth. I have it from someone I believe would know as far as Araluen goes and he tells me there's been two formal offers made this year but both were rejected by the current owner. I know nothing about any other golf courses he may be looking at.

Whatever happens it's still a great place to live. :)

Maylands is on public space - I didn't think the Council could just sell it off. Public access is more likely - so I wonder how Packet could make it work.

Melville Glades is public access and in the process of redesign with the council re zoning part of the golf course to be residential.

So I imagine if James was to say to the council here's $20m then I guess they'd say go for it.

I'm sure it's on a similar arrangement to most other courses with the crown land lease etc. if packer were to take it on, there would be no problem.....
