But didn't provide the performance advantage, like anchoring a putter to the body provides.

And then I remember that I can't hit ANY driver so it really doesn't matter. :-|

I had an FT-i LCG that I really liked. Sounded terrible, but definitely a good driver.

I remember reading somewhere that out of the centre square heads had some effect straightening your ball flight out, but off centre they actually made things worse — anyone?
