View Full Version : Worst condition you have turned up in to play golf?

OK, now I'm not talking hangovers. Otherwise it'll just be stories of Sunday morning at the champs on and on. Granted, I still remember g69's attempt to eat breakfast at 2007 KV champs - the infamous Choppa champs.

But when you flat out should not have been there.

Turning up at the champs in a moon boot with stress fractures in my foot was probably a no no. Granted, that boot really anchored my right side.

But waking up in the morning of the first Leon Treadwell day (after no signs the night before) looking like this was pushing it.

The aforementioned g69 took pity on my and handed over the keys to the buggy he'd pre-arranged for himself. A gentleman.

I woke up 5 mins walk from the golf course. But the nightclub I went to that night was 30km away, 5 mins walk from home.

I had to be driven to NSWGC, after a night of beer and homemade Yugoslav schnapps. Whitecaps on Botany Bay were a bad sign.

Hit the first green for two, then waited there for the others to muck around in the scrub and bunkers.

I lined up, took the putter back and fell on my face.

When I was about 19-20 I worked for TNT in IT (Called MIS in those days). We had an Apperley Shield match on the Sunday, and I was desperate to play, but was rostered on to shift. I found someone to swap, but someone else also wanted the swap. We tossed a coin ... and I lost. I went to the paper room with the shits ... and punched a box of paper. Two days later, I got the swap I wanted, but I'm pretty sure I also had two busted knuckles (right hand - two knuckles opposite side of the thumb). I played with a slightly modified grip and won 2/1 around Fox Hills. The team won 3-2. PS .. can someone tell me why my enter key wont give me a new line? I haven't changed anything ....

Dude, Where's my Par?

It was just a normal Saurday comp, but I caught the first train of the morning from town straight to golf after watching the second day of the first test one particular year. Still in the getup I had worn to the cricket obviously, I had to keep drinking because I didn't want to get a hangover while playing...

Syphilis?

Wrong head. First dose of chicken pox.

Marto, nice to see someone come up with another one that doesn't involve alcohol, which was kind of the point of the thread ;)

I rolled my ankle badly a couple of days before playing in an OZgolf day in the Ocean Shores Back Marker comp. Lots of swelling and bruising, but we had carts so I decided to play. Easily beat the rest of the OZgolfers overall, and thrashed golfer69's score from the 2nd hole.

I have a story but it involves talking about parts of my anatomy that I'd rather not discuss. Played through the pain and won the day, even though I could barely walk, then had some minor surgery a couple of days later!

I played golf with the chicken pox on a Saturday when I was 17. I knew I had it but didn't want anyone else to know because the Riverina Schoolboy trials were on the Tuesday. Bloody spots boke out on my face halfway through Monday at school. Was very pissed off.

I played in the midst of glandular fever when I was 18. Stupidest thing I've ever done. Was knackered 6 holes in and topped EVERYTHING, drivers, irons, chips, putts, you name it.

No. But you are probably thinking of the right area.

I shit my dacks on the way to a Wynnum cup Ozgolf day. Spent 15 mins in a service station dunny cleaning up and attempting to dry the clothes.

Pretty sure I played commando and no certainty of being able hold up/in. Plus it pissd down with rain as we hit off. Ozgolf Honour board shows that I perform pretty well in adverse conditions both external and internal.

That was pretty silly.

I played in an OzGolf champs 2011 not long after getting the hip replaced (3 months I think). Could not really play but went along for the fun and frivolity! And the awesome dude at the pub, can't understand why you all went to the boat club last year ;)

Played kb just after it opened with cracked ribs and a broken nose.

I basically ended up sitting in the cart for 15 odd holes.

Not golf, but played a full game of footy with pneumonia. Went from 96kg to 78kg over the next two weeks and was out of action for 6 weeks.

I can understand why it kills so many old timers now.

Good to see you've got your weight back into an illness safety zone I'm within 4kg of my playing weight as a fit 20 year old (admittedly with perhaps a little less muscle and more fat). Can you say the same old man?

Had a weekend away with the wife during the Queens Birthday Long Weekend.
Hurt my arm playing footy the week before decided it was ok to play golf. It hurt a bit but hurt a ton hitting out of the thick stuff.

Kept playing footy til it hurt too much - turns out it was broken from week 1.

Yep. Exact same weight as 22years ago Impressive. Endormorphs usually have a hard time keepin the weight down when they get old, you must be disciplined to buck the trend.

Had a vicious case of food poisoning from eating undercooked chicken. Didn't eat solids for 108 hours and my first journey out was to play in an ambrose day. On numerous occasions, I fell asleep in the cart in between shots.
