View Full Version : Will the 14yr Old Break Par in the Second Round?

Hatchman

After Ogles comment about the young lad "won't break 80" thought it will be interesting to run a poll on what everyone thinks will happen in the second round.

I'll start off and say he won't break par but will keep it under 80 again.

Not sure if he will go under par but I think he will go under 80 I hope the kid breaks par it's great seeing such talent at that age doing so well at the highest point in golf.

I think he will shoot 1 under par ... the kids been there all month practising im sure he broke par in one of this rounds surely.. day 1 would of been a huge test with the massive crowds and to hold a 73 is pretty amazing.. considering the length of the course.

He'd be loving it in the Clows Nest. Hope he doesn't make a dick of himself like Billy Andrade did years ago.

What did he do?

This;

Billy Andrade may have the most famous Crow’s Nest story. In 1987, Andrade was staying in the clubhouse with Chris Kite.
“You’re all excited,” Andrade remembered. “It’s Monday at the Masters (http://www.golfchannel.com/topics/events/masters-tournament.htm) and I came down the stairs in my golf spikes and I grab a doughnut and there was a guy there, he was in workout gear and he was a real old guy, like my grandfather, and there was a guard there, and this guy just started in on me, ‘What are you doing here?’”
Andrade explained to the man he was staying in the Crow’s Nest and playing in the tournament, but that wouldn’t do.
“He said, ‘You don’t belong here,’” Andrade said. “I didn’t understand why he was so mad and I found out I was in the Champions locker room and I’m not allowed in there.”
Andrade apologized and as he was leaving the locker room he asked the guard who the man was? “That was Mr. Gene Sarazen, sir,” he said.
“I guess it’s become legendary to pull a Billy Andrade, you always go right and you never go left,” Andrade said.

How many Par 4's didn't he reach?

How many Par 4's didn't he reach?

Not sure if he couldnt reach any. He averaged 275 yards with driver, compared to 294 average for the field. He seemed to be hitting a club or two more than others on approaches, wasn't that far off the pace for distance.

9/14 Fwy
8/18 GIR
25 putts!

That's quite a bit further than they said he was hitting it when he won the AP title. In that event there was quite a few fours he could not reach and absolutely killed it from 50-60 metres. It seems like that was his strategy.

I saw him hit a 5 wood into 10, then he drained the putt for birdie.

He putts well with the long putter but I saw him miss a dozen 3-4 footers in a row at the Lakes on the practice green. Full credit for his great round today but I'm tipping him for high 70s tomorrow. I hope I'm wrong.

Interesting ruling by Rules Committee, especially if the youngster misses the cut as a result. The media will have fun with this.:)

The kid has been caught out by not knowing how to milk the time warning I'd reckon.

Good learning curve for the young fella today.
Here's an interesting read:

The penalty was a joke, making an example out of the youngest kid to step foot in the masters... 18 years since someone was penalised there. Now they have set the precedent. The kid handled it wonderfully. Now I just hope to see more of it directed to the big names.

Rubbish. He had three warnings and did it again. Deserved everything he got.

Maybe the language barrier got in the way, couldn't understand the Southern Drawl?

SundayHack

Slow play has been a blight on the game for sometime now. Why decide to bring it to attention with penalising a young amateur at the
biggest tournament of the year. They have set a precedent they have to continue with now. I would have had no problem if it was
standard for the worlds best to be penalised for slow play. But it ain't. Now someone decides to ping a kid because they don't have the
balls to do it to Tiger or anyone else. That's a joke I'm sorry

markTHEblake

The only person that has set a precedent is the kid. He broke the rules that is made clear to every golfer and to him in no uncertain terms during the round.

Whining that he has been victimised or targeted personally is ridiculous. If Augusta was like that then it is far more likely that they would have targeted a certain person of the non white variation of human race long ago.

PeteyD
13th April 2013, 09:47 AM
vijay?

I reckon the kid got done because he didn't understand the time regulations properly.

aym
13th April 2013, 09:58 AM
geez you guys are a harsh bunch of old farts :P ... the kid is 14, and doesn't speak perfect english, and an amateur ... either way, at least Day was nice enough to not birdie the last two to give the kid a break...

PeteyD
13th April 2013, 11:45 AM
Yep. He has made the cut, which is way better than most thought he would (including me).

I hope he bombs out and fades into obscurity.

The last thing we need is another cheatstick-using snail on Tour.

Is he using x stiff in his shafts? I thought the distance he hits his shots would be more regular or stiff?
