Just thought I'd post about the grind I got done on my Proto Y-Cutter..

As some of you may know, the Proto head came with a wide sole, and extra meat for customised grinds... I'd been playing it for a couple of months with the wide sole, but it took some effort to open up, and it wasn't as versatile as my 54* y cutter which had more bounce and trailing edge relief.

So i sent to Chris Murchie at Tour Technologies who gave it some more bounce, and some heel, toe and trailing edge relief - a blended C grind he called it. Needless to say it came back looking great - the dirty looking thing I sent Chris came back looking gorgeous - looking like a new wedge. Chris is active on this board, username CM.

I find now it opens up a lot easier for the flops... and the narrower sole means I can be more aggressive during my pitching... The wide sole before probably wasnt suited to my swing! I can see myself being a lot more creative now with the extra versatility the grind has afforded me.

I can see myself tinkering with my other wedges now (I've got a 48* y cutter on the way to replace my MX-23 PW) and I'd encourage others to have a look at the grind on their wedges, and get it customised to your style of play, before ho'ing away!!

pathum, interested in what performance improvement you will get with a 48* Y cutter ?? surely something with a pitching wedge loft hit that hard will rip the ball to shreds ??

Yo Pete....

Yeah I'm interested too... To be honest, I dont find myself hitting that many full shots with the PW, and I havent shredded too many balls with my other 2 Y's after the initial 'breaking in' period. I endup using my PW for a lot of 3/4 shots etc...not too many full shots.. so there shouldnt be too much spin.. just a nice check..

I tried a 48* Rac Wedge from my friends TP Combo set, and the narrow sole on that felt great on half and full shots.. hence the change...more for the shape of the club, sole and grind than the grooves.

Thats the thing with the y cutter's?? They give the extra spin but it doesn't cut the ball up at all if any?
