I've got this old raw steel Cobra putter that I would like to try and do up a bit.

What would be the best way to get a nice finish on it? It's not worth sending to Lajosi buy I do like it and want to do something with it.

Also, was contemplating playing it tomorrow with rain forecast. How quickly would it start rusting? If I dry it quickly after the round will that stop it rusting up?

Perhaps try leaving it in a bucket of coke. It will clean up the rust.

Add ice cream... By then it's a SPIDER

Good point.

You don't want a spider though. Shit putter.

Leave it the way it is. It looks great.

Good to see this going in the same direction as my swing thread.

Pure brilliance. :D

I just cleaned up some raw Callaway wedges with a couple of goes with White Knight rust converter, followed by a non-scratch pot-scrubber.

Neutral Kiwi shoe polish (particularly the paint-on variety) is handy for keeping the moisture away.

I'd get some silicone spray and give it a good covering and rub.

Go to a gunshop and buy some cold blue solution. It won't stop rust but at least look better. A hot dip blue from a gunsmith would look buckets better but cost more $$

I use the plumb brown "gun blue" on mine for a different look. I always make sure to dry it after playing and leave the headcover off until that has completely dried out. I've never had a rust problem with my putter.

If you're only doing it for fun, coke it, then see how it turns out and go from there.

Just rememer though, taking it to raw raw raw will just make it rust up more...

Good to see this going in the same direction as my swing thread. How does a thread go hard left?

Silicon spray and a light rub after every use with 0000 steel wool (available from bunnings) will stop it rusting. Don't use WD40 or similar products, they react with fertilisers and won't stop rust if fertizers are present.
