Looking for abit of guidance as to how handicaps are worked out, I though they went off your best 8 rounds our of 20? but Ive now dropped 9 shots in a matter of 2 competitions, Im stoked about it.. just wondering if someone can give me some insight into how its calculated when its such a high number like mine ...

Average ur best 8 rounds, and then multiply by 0.93 as an 'excellence measure'.

Okay so I guess that wont really work until ive played 8 comp rounds.. only played 3 atm so far so until then just how ever many rounds ive played multiplied by 0.93?

It's best 8 when you've played at least 19 rounds. Yours will be just your best round

Until you get to 20 cards, then they calculate it on fewer than 8 cards.

It's something like average of best 2 (then multiplied by the 0.93 'bonus of excellence'), if you have submitted 7 cards.

It's in this thread ... http://www.ozgolf.net/showthread.php/13411-GA-to-pursue-USGA-Handicap-System-UPDATED-Details-and-Start-Date

For those that don't click on links.
You take the average of the best scores and multiply by 0.93 and that's your handicap.
The 3 cards you put in to get handicap count also.

3-6 cards its best 1
7-8 cards it's best 2
9-10 cards it's best 3
11-12 cards it's best 4
13-14 cards it's best 5
15-16 cards it's best 6
17-18 cards it's best 7
19-20 cards it's best 8

Ah, the penny drops. I've had the same problem. I shot 1 round under 100(93 to be exact ) then my cap dropped from 32 to 27. I was happy as larry. But then I played a few more games and booshka back to 29, quick as a flash. I don't think I've played 20 comp rounds but I can fix that in the near future. Having a heap of rounds will show a more true handicap as well I'm guessing

So if I do this for the 14 games I played. add all shots, divide by number of games and X by 0.93 it will give me my handicap.

out of the 14 comps youve played , get your best 5 cards , lowest scores , add and divide by 5 and then X by 0.93.. works off your best scores to make sure your handicap shows your potential.. not just a bad day . is the way im seeing it.

I've posted in other threads before, but I have a spreadsheet that calculates it all out for you. Happy to share if anyone wants it.
