I was putting on the 10th green the weekend before last, and one of the red dots just fell right out of my Fastback 1.5 :-s. After this happened, I contemplated just re-doing the paintfill in some new colours, as my hand had been forced. But in doing some research on an unrelated matter, I have come across a new (to me) product that I am going to try out instead. All will be revealed once I have received and applied said product. If successful, it has the potential to take off in club customisation/ personalisation (definitely putters, and possibly other clubs). Watch this space!

Do these putters setup like a Newport 1.5 with regard to shaft offset. I know the head is a different shape, but I am looking for something similar to the 1.5 I have now, with a bigger head and weights.

No idea, never put it next to a Newport 1.5. Titleist may have a better idea?

Me too, great minds Courty....;) 8) Just saw your post in another thread about disliking plumbers neck putters. That's exactly the reason I have these putters (and I don't mind a smallish mallet). I quite liked the look of the Odyssey Versa 1W that I saw in the pro shop the other day. You should check it out.

OK, I'm still waiting for the product to arrive, but in the meantime I've stripped the rest of the paintfill. I've left the paint in the weights as I plan on leaving them untreated for a contrasting look. Pics in the OP.

There was some dirty residue left in the dots on the face (was under the original paint, maybe adhesive?) Anyhow, I tried Acetone, Metho, Kero & Turps but it wouldn't budge. Any other ideas?

You could try hitting it with some heat. If it is some sort of adhesive it may loosen it.

So any updates Courty. I am currently removing the finish from my Redwood D66. I have a few stubborn bits of paint to remove. Acetone bath for 24 hours has done nothing. Is it best to use paint stripper? I have removed most of the black with a very fine scothchbrite wheel and 360 grit wet and dry.

Also have you received the mystery product yet?

Nothing much to add at this point. I haven't bothered with the acetone bath as it will be covered over anyway, I guess I'm just OCD about prepping stuff properly.

The mystery product has arrived, but I've been a little distracted with the arrival of my new car on the same day. I may try tonight if there's nothing decent on the tube.

If it's a stainless putter, paint stripper won't be a problem for any stubborn bits, BITS...

Hurry up! I want to see the result as I have been thinking of stripping my Fastback back and giving it a treatment, just not sure whether to go gun blue or honey dipped or ???

Therefore, waiting

Pics are in the OP.

The product I used is called Plasti Dip (http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip), which is essentially a spray-on rubber coating used for all sorts of stuff. Recently it's taken off in customising cars (spraying rims, emblems etc.). The video below gives an idea of how easy it is to work with.

There are a variety of colours available, but I used one called Smoke (http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip_Smoke), which is essentially a translucent grey. You can see from the pics it has gone a kind of matte gunmetal. I messed it up a little by spraying a few coats too close on the sole, so it has turned out a bit splotchy there but the rest looks great. The beauty is, if you mess it up, or don't like it, or just want a change you can peel it off quite easily.

The big test will be how durable it is. I'll be using it tomorrow and will treat it no differently to any other day. My main concern would be how the sole goes after patting down pitch marks. Someone also raised a question of whether rubber over the face will change the feel. My impression would be that it's too thin to make a noticeable difference, but I'll know after tomorrow.

2 weeks ago there were no retailers who had even heard of the stuff, yet when I went to Autobarn yesterday they had a nice big shiny display with a bunch of different colours in stock. The cost was just over $30 per can.

Looks all good bro. I was reading about plasti dip on WRX a week or so ago. Do you have reservations as to the durability of it ? If you can just peel it off,i would think after few hundred putts & some careless dings with the cover off,it could get messy ?

I'll know more after tomorrow's round. It's easy to peel off once you raise an edge, but until then it seems reasonably durable. In any case, if it does, you can just reapply, or even change colour!

No signs of any damage after this mornings round. The only (unforeseen) issue is that the coating has increased surface friction so much that I now struggle to get the headcover on.

It hasn't turned out how I imagined it would. I should have read more about the Smoke finish before I purchased it. Autobarn has more colours coming in another week, so I'll probably re-do it in a charcoal or black finish.
